    I can’t say anything bad about G9, I won my first points in art competitions here using G9, and I don’t think a G8 would have looked better in that scene.
    I think you need beefy hardware to take advantage of G9 and that’s not for everyone, especially people used to V4/G3 renders.
    I haven’t had any bending issues, or eye asymmetry. I believe those are issues of either converted morphs or bad jcm/erc freeze of converted characters. Original G9 stuff works fine, and autofitting with dedicated templates is also good in 90% of cases.

    I had issues with geografts on G9, but those were really early products.

    I wish G9 was way more, but unified architecture, if true, will help move things to nvidia USD and bridging the gap to real render engines. That’s the only future for Daz, selling to hobbyists is the past, sadly.

    I don't think so.

    They might want to get in with the heavy hitters, but so far there is a lot of resistance to them being taken seriously. I doubt that their efforts have impressed many folk in that area at least as yet.

    I think the hobbyist is going to be their staple for some time to come, provided they do not piss off their core customer base too much more.

    I'm a bit old and my eyes just dont tell me the truth always. G8 Kala on the left and G9 Kala on the right. Both under daz basic/generic settings.

    I like the one on the left better. Other than possibly having more freedom with certain morphs I dont find G9 is the magic bullet.

    The results of the vote may not be significant but they are appalling for Daz... We as pirates could use G9 BUT WE DO NOT EVEN DOWNLOAD the new characters and clothing (not worth HD space). Daz staff should take notice (but they will not of course...). The only good thing for Studio I can say is that with a powerful rig (required it seems to use G9) you have almost no limit in your scenes and renders with G8s, for instance (and it is not just for bragging) I managed to render 20 fully textured with hair and NG gens G8 (19 F one M...) in an indoor scene (Powerage minimally furnished Red Room with classy lights, Orestes cloudy sky visible through windows and WM 3-5-8 poses retailored, details given if you wanna compare) in 5 minutes (or less), it was not an artistic intention but for testing purposes in real production condition (the most difficult part was light sharing for the crammed "guests", 1 was too dark in the end). It seems Iray now correctly use those NVIDIA cudas brigades... IF YOU USE MEMORY instead of auto or speed in your settings (that is crucial but poorly understood to get rid of black artifacts and most skullcap problems). So I do not see any reason to change for ugly G9s... For the record I use the last DS stable version and reinstalled stuff from my previous rig (and considerably trimmed down regarding the number of morphs so that I can load the scene subset of a haired and NGed G8 in 10-20 seconds depending more on the hair set than the morphs). The question is how can DS5 harness this technical power instead of a bloated twenty year old program churning out another stupid GX iteration (my dream is a G8 with good modular expression, accurate bending including a few more bones, true IK, easy pose for high heels and decent eyes) ? Rhetorical question, I know...

    I’ve used Gen 9 once. Didn’t enjoy using as much as 8.1. I may give 9 another try.

    I'm still using G8, because G8.1 or G9 don't even have light/pale skin and they lack
    variety of normal maps.

    G9 is creeping closer and closer to my recycle bin.

    I've spent a lot of time converting old maps and tweaking G9 but I can't see any benefit whatsoever. The rigging is terrible, the skin however tweaked looks either (as @frank22 rightly put it "bland, unrealistic and over-tanned like a Barbie Doll") or washed out and flat. The ONLY thing that made it look as realistic as the G3-G8 maps was by adding the original Normal...as you did with Uber skins...If it worked why mess with it and break it, God dammit.

    I won't even go into the nightmare endured converting older figures, that's another rant.

    I will think long and hard about completly going back to Genesis 8 before hiting that delete button. Having jumped through hoops to like it I don't think I'll have any regrets by not using Genesis 9 now or in the future.

    Yep IK, G9 has been very disappointing and doesn't bode well when/if-ever DS5 comes out. DS5 has now been on pause for 2 years and during that time we've also had major technological advances with AI "art"-making software, like it or not. So Daz may have gone back to the drawing board multiple times and restarted from scratch with DS5. When/if-ever DS5 comes out I just hope it isn't a half-arsed flop like G9 has been.
    For me the annoying thing is that nobody at Daz is giving DS5 updates or timelines to us or even their forum mods. Then again they never did that either with their previous disasters like encryption and DRM so true to form.... no respect.

    I wouldn't read too much into it. They probably regret to have mentioned DS5 in the first placec. If I was them I'd keep it silent, work on DS5 and relwease it pretty much all of a sudden.

    @inversekinematics

    I'm still waiting for a script to take the better G9 characters back to G8F G8.1F.

    Morphs only is fine, I have plenty of decent G8F Skins.

    I don't expect for a moment that it will come from official Daz sources though.

    DS5 is a legend... The crucial problem is that they themselves do not know how to improve "their pastiche". The DSK is still from version 4.5. with an API that mixes QT.... The information of their script language is "to piss and not to throw a drop...". They are lazy people who live on the PA's rents. G9 is hellish for animation or creating morphs, given its separate structure in Body, Eyelashes, Tear, Eyes, Mouth, and Eyebrows Card Style... Total nonsense.
    In version 4.10 a .bvh of 4000 frames can take seconds... In 4.21, you can go for a walk with your dog or partner, and when you come back, it will still be loading...
    And if you wait for the A.I. to solve that, I recommend you to enter in a monastery of silence and cell without internet...

    This entire thread makes me happy about staying with poser now that Bondware is putting some actual effort into and giving updates on development.

    @frank22

    You're right. I'm going to place a bet on their demise unless they come up with something 'NEW' that actually works, i won't hold my breath though. I was going to give Unreal engine my full attention but I really don't have the time to start from scratch. Blender is getting better so i'll stick with learning that app. DS has become like a part functioning / part annoying app that needs reworking from the top down.

    Can't use that old excuse of it being free so just accept it. Blender is free but updates and fixes bugs on a regular basis. There are no excuses for not fixing what members have been calling out for years on DAZ's part really.

    @eelgoo

    We can only wish for that script, but as I've said before "you aren't missing anything with Genesis 9" My guess would be that DAZ would squash any attempt to create a backwards compatible script. We know DAZ INC are all about the money rather than creativity.

    Absolutely, so if it does appear it won't be supported by Daz.

    I would have thought that there would be a growing market for it by now.

    However, as @spats said on a related thread:

    'That said, some G9 (face/head) morphs would be quite nice to have for G8/8.1 bases.
    Just not sure how would work without starter or other essentials installed.
    Perhaps that’s where contributors come in.'

    Ideally, that would have to be allowed for in the scripting, not that I really know anything much about the topic. :00

    As regards the body morphs, I don't doubt those can be approximated even with just the basic G8F body morphs pack.

    🙂

    It's the tweaking involved when you transfer morphs across characters that is the BIG hurdle @eelgoo

    I haven't seen many G9 characters worthy of being ported over to G8 if you want my honest opinion. Vic 9 is possibly the only one I would attempt trying to convert.
