Daz going woke, I think I am about to delete this app. Now you have a genderless model to which most likely all the stuff for Gen 8 won't work, example skin tectures, clothing, hair etc.
Not a fan at the moment.

@rlcwallpapers, DAZ is soooooo greedy and it's all about money!

Daz didn't go woke. If so they started the Genesis line woke, changed it then now is going back to being so. Genderless isn't the idea, it's ease of access to content through a unified model. Gone are the days of buying the same product twice (one for male and one for female), now you buy the product once and those products will work perfectly on any characters.

Personnaly, i don't feel concerned with the new Genesis 9 generation comming out.

I'm still using vastly and mostly Genesis 6 models for creating my semi-realistic/fantaisy orignal characters and a bit of Genesis 7 for some bit more realistic models. The wardrobe i use are mostly Genesis 6 and 7, with a bit of V4 and a bit of G8 here and there. There are only in hair a sometime dig a bit more in the Genesis 8 librairy to fetch some. But i still use a lot of Genesis 6 and 7 hair.

So when Genesis 8 got out, i didn't even wanted to touch that with a 10 feets pole and i'm not going to do even more so with Genesis 9. Unless there are really some more innovating clothing or hair style that come out and were never made. And then again.....

Since Genesis 6, they started to drive more and more away from toonish and semi-realistic characters to more and more realistic life like models. (It became really apparent with Genesis 8). That's not what i am interested in. Too realistic, not enough fantaisy clothing style and characters.

To tell you how old style i am, i am still using Daz Studio 4.10. It's running perfectly on my cpu and it's doing everything i need to do and is able to use everything i need. So i don't see the need to dive into that new genesis 9.

My opinion is that Daz needs to make product reuse, texturing, and quick geometry modification (Mesh Grabber) a simple and easy thing to do. Buuut they won't sell as much stuff, so I guess we know how this will go. Gen 9... release everything! 🙂

They are so lazy they barely have documentation on what they do have.

I want to add a positive note here. Like playing with Daz and 3D rendering. I just don't like Daz the company.

Which is better, Gen 9 vs Gen 8.1.

I decided to do a side by side comparison of both development models and share how I feel about their realism. As everyone knows, people have different body shapes and sizes, so this in no way reflects a definitive experience once you start to add additional morphs.

I'll start with Genesis 9, on the LEFT SIDE:
    1. Bending the thumb inward, gives a more realistic fat pocket within the palm of the hand.
    2. The shoulder bends more realistically instead of creating a bulge along the upper arm.
    3. The pinky and thumb's finger pads can touch. Though neither figure can make fully pressed contact. The inner palm also appears more natural when the figures are contorted to this degree.
    4. The wrist and tendon create a more natural curvature.
    5. The 'love handle' lays over the thigh more naturally when the leg is lifted high enough.
    6. The leg and thigh create a more natural crease when pressed together.
    7. The genital area doesn't stretch abnormally. Instead the upper thigh and glute pull taunt and create bends/twists.
    8. The foot has a more graceful looking curvature. (This one is just an opinion)
    9. The toes create a more realistic bend and pull when spread. The second toe bends slightly inward even when spread.

The next is Gen 8.1, on the RIGHT SIDE:
    1. The ears are more detailed. (This could be an intended Daz design)
    2. The clavicle feels more realistic. (This is just an opinion)
    3. This one is huge and feels like an oversight on Gen 9. The breasts correspond better with arms movement. (Though I won't deny that some Gen 8 breast movement are completely off at times)
    4. The fat pocket on the forearm becomes more pronounced than with Gen 9. (It is almost not noticeable though, I'll admit)
    5. The underside of the large toe has that extra fat pocket which seems to be gone with Gen 9.

There are some things that I didn't evaluate one way or another such as; knee/elbow/ hip area/ and finger and toe bump/tendon/flesh area between because those will change based on the individual person.

So I tried to keep it exclusive to how most bends/details would work on most normal functioning adult people.

I also did the back side and will post my finds later.

    Thanks for reading.

Let's move on to the back side. I won't duplicate bulletins from the front side image. This time Genesis 9 is on the RIGHT SIDE and Genesis 8.1 is on the LEFT SIDE.

Let's start with Genesis 8.1 on the LEFT SIDE:
    1. The out side of the palm has that fat pocket that pushes out more naturally.
    2. This is just my opinion but the back of the arm looks slightly more natural, but remember the front is far inferior. At least in my opinion.
    3. The back has much more muscle and bone definition.
    4. The glutes, like the breasts seem to be more in-tune with what the legs are doing. I.e. Slight glute seperation, upper glute lift and side glute conforming with raised leg.

Now Gen 9 on the RIGHT SIDE:
    1. The skin armpit conforms more naturally with the back.
    2. The leg mets more naturally with the hip, though honestly it still leaves room for improvement.
    3. Oops. I already addressed this on front view.

There are other very minor things so I won't mention.

So.. after my analysis, I guess I'll leave it up to you to decide what you feel is better. ME? FUCK Genesis 9. I'm out!

    Take care.

From what I have seen, I doubt I'll bother installing, until I see significant improvements in several areas.

    🙁

Had now a good chance to work with G9, V9 and some morphing tests. The breast area has definitely huge problems. I'm way too bad to sculpt them somewhat as good as the G8 base model without morphs.

    @Kefka
It looks like G8 was just a little leaner in comparison to G9 on some parts.

    @lanared3d

True. I forgot to mention that Genesis 9 is SEVERAL inches shorter than Gen 8/8.1 so I did have to increase the height of Gen9. Also Gen 8 has a leaner body mass/frame so muscles and bones might be / are more prominent on the Gen 8 model.

This is why I didn't take into account the elbow/knee/finger/toe bone/tendon protrusion/recesses when doing my analysis.

Also, while the right leg upward crease line on Gen 9 looks more natural, the calf flex on the same leg looks more realistic on Gen 8/8.1. (This one is hard to judge to be honest so it could go either way depending on your opinion) + I don't know if the Gen 8 developer model used any of the JCMs I have installed. (I feel like it does)

Thanks for pointing that out, Lana.

G9 corresponds pretty good on bending within limits especially on things like flexes. They did really good and it looks quite realistic. G9 needs to be a little thinner/leaner though. The mass isn't that much lowered in perspective while G8F was thin in comparison. I hope you get what I mean.

Growing Up always had some sliders to erase some weight and it does work. G9 looks much better but we need to wait for better morphs.

    @Kafka
no thanks needed but appreciated, you did the work 🙂

yeah ... it's no genesis 8 killer, not even a real successor. it's just another figure with a different mesh and mapping ... that's all.

Imagine getting this upset over some polygons...

LOL a bit over the top. But considering he/she didn't delete DS with Genesis 1, also a unisex figure, it might just be a bit of hyperbole.

Thank you @Kefka these comps are exactly what I have been looking for.

Most of the morphs I installed for G8 was basically to get G8 to bend like G9 and I will switch for this alone. These bends are huge in getting the looks of a soft(er) body even if Daz cannot implement the physics.
