My husband and I are avid roleplayers. I used to do the vast majority of our character portraits by hand, but thanks to arthritis deciding to set in heavy around the age of 25, I had to find other avenues. A very good friend of mine was into Poser and she showed me the basics. It all just took off from there. I still go back to the classic mediums of acrylics and such from time to time but Poser is my primary medium now.

Pursue? I'm dunno, i just love doing it. When i was in school and college there wern't any 3D programs like DAZ/MAYA/POSER (early 90s), let alone attainable careers for this type of stuff. (I got a Windows NT MCSE instead) I'd rather create a scene, that will take hours just to compose, for nothing more then the satisfaction of seeing it done. And there is the technical part as well, the MATH. That's where i geek out and try and figure out how, why and what i think vs what really happens when i start tweaking settings. Honestly, i just love it, and the ability to re-create or create-from-scratch whatever my brain can think of. Maybe, once i get out of IT, i'll switch gears for this, who knows.

@painsplayground & @aftyrbyrn thank you both for entering my contest!
I have already sent bonus entry points to both of your accounts.
I'm really humbled by not only the quality of entries so far but the quantity of entries! I am surely happy that so many artists are kind enough to both enter this contest and to share what inspired them with our great community!
Yes! Tooo many exclamation marks!!!! I'm THAT excited!!!

What inspired me to pursue 3D art ?
Hello here is a little story.
Ten years ago i was building 3d race tracks for racing simulator games called rFactor and also nascar racing 2003.
In my quest to find or rip 3d objects and textures to use for my tracks I was always having to experiment with alot of 3d software to get 3d objects into the games. Converting files from one format to another was a nightmare. Sometimes It was alot of back and forth from many programs before finally being able to get a model into a game that was stable. Many times textures, Uv mapping or mesh would get messed up from one format to another.

Used to drive me nuts because I was still learning and really had no idea what i was doing. I had every program you could think of just to mainly convert an object. I tried daz studio 3 and poser 7 to import and export different 3d objects. I never used them for modeling but did download a hell of alot of Daz stuff around 2009 - 2013 but never really used it. I was a 3d junkie so i took everything i could get. I actually had no idea about the daz file formats.

Every now and then i would crank up poser 7 and try to install some of the daz stuff that i had but really had no clue as to how the whole RUNTIME worked. The daz website confused me with the install files. I never knew which installer was needed for the product to work so i would just install all of them, even the templates lol. It was such a mess but at the time i didnt know it.

When genesis and genesis 2 arrived that messed me up. Using dazstudio i could never find where the stuff went after i installed it. I was always left scratching my head saying" WTF ......where did it go? So i gave up again and went back to using poser 7 because i had an idea where to find stuff using that program. But then i gave up again when genesis 3 came because i could get it to show up in poser 7 or poser 11.

I never really studied daz studio so i never knew that the default installation locations would change with newer versions which messed up things as well.

I was never serious about using DAZ or Poser.......I tried to use them both for animation and I just thought it was kool to look at naked women and pose them like a porn star.

I didnt even know how to apply clothes or hair properly. I didnt really care because i could understand how it all worked.

I couldnt understand why poses and animation files would get all messed up and the figure would get all twisted.
Had no idea that there were compatibility issues between different generations.

So from 2009 to 2018 i had no clue as to what i was doing, which is why i always gave up. Daz and poser, i never knew what i was doing and as much as i wanted to try i just couldnt get the hang of things.

However for some reason this year In April I actually sat down and read all about daz studio and poser and after a few weeks of reading and youtube videos THE PENNY FINALLY DROPPED. I finally understood the most important ting.....the daz file structure and the installation path.
I discovered what needed to be done and worked out the best way to install things. This was a game changer for me.
Now daz studio was actually a good program to use because I understood where things went and why things went wrong.
The days of runtime madness were over. It now made sense to me.

A clean slate and now there were no problems apart from the odd 1 or 2 content creators that dont make their files structure correct and creates a problem but now i get to fix it, because i understand the flow.

I have still got an old computer with a runtime folder that i used for poser and daz 4.5. Looking back at the state of that poser and daz instalation I am amazed that it ever worked. No wonder i always gave up..What a mess........how times have changed for me now.

So I now get to my main point of the story which is what inspired me to pursue 3d art?

I pursue 3d art not because i want to but because now i can.

I Guess In the end I want to master the art of lighting using only openGL.

Sounds strange but that my personal challenge.

@globalrecession2009 So if you had to render 'what inspired you' for this contest, it'd be a screenshot of rFactor!

@Painsplayground please be my guest to resubmit. but I have a bad attention span. Remind me to delete the old one and NOT use it when I start the Judgement Thread (2).
To answer you @thearachne, this is a Hate-free-Zone, lol. One of the best artists here actually has a plethora of muscular females and I'll send you a PM link to her DeviantArt site. Perhaps you'll be inspired to enter my contest. Just remember to use an image hosting site if you think it may be too offensive for our community. I've got your entry bonus points ready to transfer. Remember, contest entry deadline is midnight, 30 September 2018, Eastern time. Thank you for sharing your inspiration with us. I'll have to google "The Wicked" and check out their work.

Ya know what, I might actually enter this image, Linking it cause It doesn't show nudity but It might be considered Risque, so I will link it and be safe! Hopefully this works, If not let me know.
I grew up in the 90s, SO Mortal Kombat was a big part of my childhood and So when I made Lady Abigail Arachne (Character Shown) in 2011, She became the face of The Arachne, Whereas I am the voice of The Arachne, So I dabbled in the MK side of themes, and This was one of my favorite images that I have rendered, I don't recall if this was resized or not, But I might have to recreate it (Here's to hoping for MK outfits for G8F <,< ) and Let it render out some on Lux since I have that now.

Ah, Mortal Kombat. When I was a kid, my dad often took me to the café where his metal band would do their weekly rehearsals. It was a really grimy place, but it had a Mortal Kombat arcade machine. Good times, man.

I would love to have your entry added to my contest, @TheArachne. By the way I won't deny I've ever visited e-hentai.com when it was around. Now you've got that theme song in my head @Tommytomahawk. and cue the gong and hit it..."Mortal Kombat"

Well, now that I've seen it, I think it's time to dust off my Sega Genesis, plug it into a CRT TV, and play me some Mortal Kombat. With the blood cheat code enabled, of course.

    Get over here!
