I think it's perfectly reasonable to want the "hey, this is porn" images in place of the nudes. I'm not even going to appeal to "they did it in other contexts" or anything like that, I just think it's a reasonable thing. Some people might browse where they don't want it to be obvious to others looking over their shoulders (bosses, spouses, children, etc.) that they're looking at a thing that gives a G8 figure 19 breasts and a snake-penis.

Most things on most stores are pretty acceptable for general consumption, but it makes sense to create a bit of an opt-in to keep the site maximally useful for the largest number of people.

Maybe a limited approval process to the effect of the first X uploads are subject to greater scrutiny?

I don't know if that's possible or if it would add undue strain to the system, but at least that way if there are people who share more frequently without issue, their stuff goes in the queue as normal (until they post something messed, of course), and people posting the first few times are under scrutiny until their stuff can be doublechecked?

I know that's a LOT more work, though, for a group of volunteers to do, but maybe other people can volunteer to be testers to give a yes/no on it? Or... ssssomething?

Just sorta throwing spaghetti at the wall here because I don't think "test everything thoroughly as if we were paying people for it" is a realistic option, but "the first time(s?) a person uploads, we have people check it out before it goes up" could be a thing that works?

    Yes.

Sharing/copying/pirating or whatever you want to call what it is we do here is, in fact, a violation of the EULA.

The EULA is not the basis of the social contract people enter into on this site.

Breaking one is a violation of law.

Breaking the other a violation of social contract.

And, yes, law is also a social contract, but that's a long, spiraling, boring, old, boring, silly, and boring rabbit hole to go down. Yes, we are all very aware that what we are doing is illegal.

Thus we come to the social contract, aka the "honor among thieves" thing that is the core of this discussion. We have all, pretty freaking clearly, made our statements about what we owe the artists whose work we're sharing. How we square ourselves with that is between us as individuals and our respective views on morality and/or the supernatural.

If your argument is that your doing this thing frees you or anyone else to behave however feels convenient at the moment, there's absolutely nothing I can do to change that.

The argument being had here is that now we all agree that we're breaking the law to some extent to form this community, what to we owe one another as PART of the community?

Is it in our interest to spread these things further? Is it a respectful way to treat someone who spent money on something someone else spent time on to just copy/paste the link elsewhere? Is that how we want to treat one another? How do we incentivize the behaviors we want and disincentivize the ones we don't WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO HAVE THAT WHAT WE'RE DOING IS NOT IN LINE WITH THE EULAS OF THE PRODUCTS WE ARE PIRATING.

And if breaking one rule means all rules are fine to break for you? Again, I can do absolutely nothing to change that perspective for you.

But that's a different matter than how this community of thieves, criminals, and data-pirates treat one another.

Most of these conversations aren't really my bag because I don't have much to say: I share a little, I'll sometimes get a thing I don't even want very much so I can get a few thousand more points, I try things out, I have a spare hard drive with the assets and products I want to keep and whenever I buy one of them, I delete it from the drive. I am a criminal in the strictest, blandest sense of the word. I gain enjoyment in my hobbyist rendering from products I have pirated and used illegally because it is easy to do so and I make no money doing so. Anything I would even consider using or showing publically, I make sure I have purchased because that's how I do.

Legally speaking, that's no different than if I were some kind of highly-paid porn artist who uses exclusively pirated, shared, or otherwise ill-gotten assets. Which shows that the law is about what a community is willing to use violence to enforce and not about what is moral.

I say all this to frame my belief that this non-argument of "how can you complain about people compounding the criminal act when you yourself did the criminal act" is disingenuous toss to bring into a discussion of what kind of community (of thieves, criminals, and pirates) we want to be going forward and how we should behave to one another.

For my own part, if I buy a thing and share it here, yeah: I get a little annoyed when I see it on other sites. But also, I don't make a big stink because I understand that this is the nature of things. But also, it doesn't have to be and I can see why people would want to try and make adjustments to how we do (illegal, criminal) things to address problems within the community and disincentivize multiplying the criminality from "shared in a limited capacity on one site with one group of people who opt in to being the same kind of criminal as me" to "shared across the internet without restriction".

And if you don't see a meaningful distinction in that? Again, there's nothing I can do but the "reminder" that we're a bunch of criminals isn't an argument against caring about what kinds of criminals we are and whether or not we want certain kinds of criminals in our midst, it's honestly an argument to care MORE about the kinds of company we keep.

Aaaaaah. That WOULD make some sense. Trying to force a return on their investment instead of doing what I would imagine would be the clever thing and have two revenue streams. Of course, to do that they'd probably have to start offering better deals or money to vendors to incentivize going with LaFemme/L'Homme instead of keeping with the Genesis line and.

Yeah, no, that all makes sense.

Though I might not go so far as to say some of the vendors who got purged weren't good enough for Daz. Maybe Daz didn't take them, but I am heartbroken that I can't find a place to legitimately purchase some of RecieCup's models because she did some amazing work.

Still, it all sounds pretty reasonable. And explains the relatively explosive (from my n00b point of view, anyway) growth of RenderHub.

    Thanks for the insight there.

Had a friend, his wife, and her kid all get it. We're very anxious about my grandmother possibly getting it. Knock wood it's just everyone being afraid and a few people going on various forms of unemployment benefits because they're trying to not die or accidentally kill anyone else.

Other than that, I'm just going almost comedically overboard trying to observe all the social distancing and masks and everything else whenever I go out. Had to buy some lotion because my hands kept breaking out because I have been washing all the moisture out of them.

But allergy season is setting in and making me even more paranoid about it all.

Mostly I'm just happy I live with my partner because I know a fair few friends who have been going quite mad without even slight social physical contact with their fellow humans for a while, nevermind the social contact deficiency felt by my more extroverted friends.

The effects for me are mostly just increased anxiety (which I don't need), but compared to some stories I've heard and what AnjaBear's saying, I'll take being a little weirder and twitchier than usual.

Hmmmm. Looks at least close, but it doesn't look like it opens, whichwas what I'd want.

But then again, no harm giving it a shot. Thanks!

    Trailer Description:

    Black screen.

VO (Thalia Amiri) "I used to work for Angel Acquisitons. Industrial espionage. I was good."

Thalia (Athana Marinakis) in a black suit walks into a room full of heavily-armed goons. Close up on her smirking face as she unsheathes a knife from her side.

VO (Thalia) "Too good, as it turns out."

Thalia walking out of a room covered in fallen goons. Cut to the floor in front of her exploding with electricity, autocannons and all manner of horrible technologies.

MAYHEW stands above her with a smirk on his face.

Cut to Thalia in a hospital, being fitted with the cybernetic parts of her head, her shoulders are covered with bandages and missing their arms.

VO (Thalia)"They took something from me."

Cut to a neon-lit room in a warehouse where Nana (Maya Sichi), a glitching prototype gynoid is leaning on her halberd and making a dismissive gesture. Around her we see the other three members of the team: heavyset weapons master Kyla "Minefield" Sheffield (Mariah Simms), heavily-converted street-fighting cyborg Jenny Johns (Rosaleen O'Brien), and Nana's imposing bodyguard Umika Kobayashi (Kimiko Takeshi). They look unimpressed as Thalia paces in front of them.

"Just like they took something from you. Otherwise you wouldn't be here. Nobody takes on a job like this for any reason but revenge."

VO (Jenny): "I used to do their IT. Apparently I saw something I shouldn't."

Jenny in a cramped hacker's den, being electrocuted through the cord she's using to plug her head into a computer.

"If I can fry them back, I'm in."

Cut to Jenny staring straight at a computer in a server farm as its screen starts going weird, windows opening and closing at a frightening pace. Nana taps her shoulder and nearly gets her head taken off as Nana's fists strike out without Jenny even looking.

Nana gives her a "WTF" look.

Jenny grimaces and rubs the back of her neck. "Sorry. Wound up a little tight."

VO (Nana) "Angel Acquisitions bought the company that made me. They keep trying to collect me. I'd love to 'collect' something from them first."

Outside on a city street, Nana does a V-sign idol pose at a couple of private security guards before leaping at them and catching them in the necks with the handle of her halberd.

Cut back to the warehouse where Thalia is looking up at Umika. "What about you?"

Back to that city street where an unseen security guard falls to the ground in front of Nana. We pan up to Kyla, who pistolwhips another security guard in the neck.

In the warehouse, Umika gestures to Nana. "I watch her back."

Cut to a streetfight where Umika shoots a couple people away as Nana vaults off her shoulders and does some middling martial arts stuff to a couple more guards as Umika slaps the gun out of another guard's hand.

Warehouse: Thalia looks up at Kyla. "And you?"

A blasted landscape where Kyla is blasting away a bunch of soldiers; a shadow falls over her and we see an Angel Acquisitions tank looming over her. Kyla's eyes go wide and she slumps to the ground and we see Thalia pulling a knife out of Kyla's back.

"You told them where to find my team. I was lucky to survive."

    "Oh. Sorry?"

"You didn't sign the checks. Right?"

Cut to John Mayhew (Geoffrey Reidman), smirking as he hands a pile of credits to Thalia.

"...Right. So you don't have a problem with working with me?"

Cut to Kyla holding her big ol' cannon on Thalia before turning away and exploding a looming enforcer bot.

"You're a lot lower on the list than your old boss."

Umika leans against a wall. "So what's the job?"

Pan up the tall office building that is Angel Acquisitions HQ.

Cut to Mayhew's office on the top floor of Angel Acquisitions HQ, smoking a cigar as he looks over the city beneath him.

"Simple. We shut down their new security, head to the top floor, and we kill the bossman."

Nana: "This is too many people to kill a man. What aren't you telling us?"

Thalia hits a button on her head, revealing that the metal part of her head is empty. "They took more than my arms. The new security system, ERGO SUM, is based around the brain of the best spy Angel Acquisitions ever employed."

Smash-cut to a glitchy, digitized version of Thalia's face appearing in the window beside Mayhew, looking out at the city below.

VO (Thalia) "So I need the wildest, most desperate minds possible if I'm going to kick my ass."

Quick supercut of explosions, fights, and running from lasers, miniguns and the like.

In Mayhew's office, we see him staring down at chaotic security footage. MAYHEW turns to Holo-Thalia. "This is too much. What's she even hoping to achieve?!"

Cut to a darkened corridor inside Angel Acquisitions HQ, where Holo-Thalia's projection and Thalia are circling each other.

Holo-Thalia: "This is stupid, Thalia. Give up. If you were thinking rationally, you'd have won by now."

Thalia: "I guess I got the good half of our brain. Because _I_ remember that it's not enough to win."

Holo-Thalia smirks: "Someone else has to lose, huh?"

Smash cut to the title: ZER0 SUM

Cut to Thalia and her assistant standing in Thalia's makeshift office, looking out at the four who've volunteered to come along on this venture.

Assistant: "This is the best money can buy?"

Thalia: "Well, it's the best my money can buy."
