Also, the idea of NFTs is not an inherently bad or evil thing. Everyone seems to think they're going to give CORPORATION control over artists...

And that is possible. But it also can give the ARTIST control over corporations. The artists just need to leverage NFTs so that companies get the NFT, but *not* the right to the art. Right now - it doesn't often work that way.

But - these things are evolving. That is the thing that actually irks me about the way people are responding to these things. Rather than seeing the potential benefits and trying to ensure that those benefits happen - they're taking this glass-half-empty approach. NTFs exist as an *idea* because the problem is real. The people hating on NFTs all think NFTs are a bad solution - but they *don't have any solution at all*.

I hate this in the workplace - there is always that one guy that wants to shoot down every idea to every problem the company faces - but never has any ALTERNATIVES to offer. They don't know what *will* work... but they always seem to be certain what *won't*.

    @Plonquer totally agreed.

@axllls also agreed. People have always escaped into virtual realities. Reading a book is a virtual reality. Playing a Fantasy Role playing game is a virtual reality. It is the FIRST way that kids play, when they assume the identities of their favorite characters - super heroes, and recreate the stories they've read or watched.

Digital virtual reality has existed since at LEAST the first time two people sat at an Atari 2600 and pretended to be tank operators.

This is just *more immersive* and with potential real-world benefits. I don't think we'll know what will be the big breakthrough - the Facebook/Social Media revolution that VR brings - but it probably isn't something we can imagine - anymore than you could have imagined Facebook in 1992.

But whatever it is, it is coming.

Actually, I had hit the Reply flag to Redflag and figured it would thread the response so it was clear - but it didn't. Your avatar is awesome too, though!

But I was wondering about the character from the promo included with the old V4 Elf outfit.

If it is custom or one that is available. 🙂

Can you tell us a little bit about the model you used with the promo, that I am assuming you created - and I appreciated the link. I like V4 items, too - a lot of that stuff represents an area of 3D CGI that isn't quite being replicated with the newer content.

It is a *pirate* site. Be smart. There is no honor among thieves. The minute we start to try and enforce someone's concept of *morality* here - is the minute this starts to fall apart.

If you feel ripped off by a link you "purchased" with the imaginary "points" they give you for logging in - blame yourself. I got ganked for 50 points recently - I get that back in half a day.

And it was a link I had checked out before and *knew* not to click, but I wasn't paying attention. It was totally *my* own fault. That guy won his 50 points.

@Chonakz You're welcome! When I was buying my GTX 1080 - at that time in the DAZ forums, the advice was that DAZ3D saw no benefit from using nvLink to join two like cards - but, would use as many UNLINKED GPU card cores as you had in the system - up to the max memory of the card with the LEAST amount of memory...

Does that make sense? If you had a 4 or 6 GB... whatever was the mid range card at the time... a GTX 760, I think... and a 1080 with 8 GB... you would be limited to scenes with a max size of the card with the SMALLEST amount of memory - but it would use every GPU card when rendering.

So, instead of getting another GTX 1080, I got an RTX 2080 - and sure enough - both with 8 GB... and scenes that were taking hours were done in less than an hour. BUT... sometimes one of the cards, generally the GTX 1080... I would hear that it wasn't spinning up... and checking the logs I saw it failing... so I got that OC Scanner X utility from EVGA and I could SEE when I was maxing out the memory on the GTX 1080 and it was falling back to CPU rendering.

But what I really *want* at this point is a GTX 3080 with 24GB of memory.

If you CAN pool memory on DAZ 3D... the possibilities of nvLink with 48 GB of rendering memory is HUGE. So... I hope something has changed and my understanding is out of date.

@chonakz I have a GTX 1080 and an RTX 2080 in my rig - so unfortunately I can't get nvLink and pool memory unless I drop another $1100 for a renewed RTX 2080... but I was always under the impression that DAZ didn't take advantage of nvLink - but will take advantage of multiple cuda cores if you have multiple, non-linked GPUs in your system. My experience is that this is the case. I don't get more memory space - but DAZ dumps the scene into both cards... in my case, scenes are limited to 8GB because both cards are 8GB cards.

But here is a tip for you. Go to EVGA and download their OC SCANNER X. It has a GPU monitoring feature that allows you to select any GPU card in your system and see the GPU temp, the GPU load, the memory load, the MCU load, and the fan speed.

It is a VERY easy way to identify if one card is crashing out during the scene load onto the GPUs and/or falling back to CPU rendering.

Bonus, it works with non-EVGA Nvidia GPU cards.

So, DForce is working much better for me under 4.16. But, I've learned a secret that helped prior to that. It is really very simple. A lot of time, having the figures move through the pose you want blows up the simulation. If you go into the Simulation Settings and change "Start Bones From Memorized Pose" to "off" the figures stay static - it seems to reduce the simulation time significantly, and you're less likely to get the DForce item exploding. I've had basically 100% success with DForce since I learned about this

Old caveats about Dforce, like remove as many objects as possible, also still help.

Let us know if this helps you out. In the meantime, I'll continue to dig around and see if I can recall how I corrected it.

At any rate, this should give you hope that the issue *can* be corrected through DAZ directly. It is just a matter of getting the right shader in the right spot so that DAZ recognizes it and you can find it.

So... same deal for me. I think maybe the problem was that the .pbr shader was ending up in a secondary "My Library" that was on the C: drive. I Use DIM (Daz Install Manager)...

And it was *probably* a matter of uninstalling and reinstalling the Base 8.1 characters and looking at the paths in settings in DIM and then in Preferences, in the content tab, in the Content Directory Manager section.

It seems like this *was* the problem. I'd start looking there. I do recall there was a thread in the DAZ3D forums - but I can't find it in my history. I know it had to do with a Digital Creations G8F character and not being able to get the shaders right when adding geographs, and it was PBR shaders that were the problem.

    This *may* be the thread:

I had the problem with the PBR skins... I forget exactly what the problem was - but is your library in the default path (C:) or did you assign it to a different drive/path?

It took me a day of researching forums and digging around in my libraries and uninstalling and reinstalling - but I got it sorted out. If I could remember exactly how, I'd give you a walkthru. There is something more than just redownloading the files - though...
