Gretchen for Sexy Lederhosen, or maybe Sueno for OOT Sexy Lederhosen recolored. Either way, the Sexy Lederhosen outfit.

You don't even need critical thinking. Just watch Doctor Who.

Great part is you don't have to choose. I like taking Daz assets and rendering them in Blender.

Most of these were stolen from other porters on dA. Whatever you're looking for, you can probably still find it for free there.

Thank you so much for the reminder! I'm currently trying to decide which item from my "ancient stuff" wishlist to get.

I think you're probably right. I always have trouble recognizing them with different textures. Thank you for letting me know!

If anyone recognizes the texture, I'd appreciate knowing what it is too.

To my limited experience, Blender's cloth engine and dForce are essentially the same. Start getting collisions, and it balls up and/or floats away. The mesh has to be prepped to be one piece, or it falls off the rest of the garment. Pin groups are a PITA. You have to animate a character into a pose if the final position intersects with the cloth's starting position. I once got so frustrated trying to make a layered V4 skirt work that I just ended up rigging the damn thing.

Is MD really that much better? I want to learn how to make my own clothes, but this whole "work for food" nonsense gets in the way of my learning progress.

Thanks a lot for the info! Although I also have to accuse you of being an evil enabler. Already got it downloaded, seems simple enough.

Good thing for me I don't have a porn addiction. 3D hoarding is bad enough, and I have a feeling it's about to get worse.

    Holy. Crap.

Yeah, unfortunately, I don't know how to torrent. It's probably a good thing, or I'd be filling up hard drive space even faster.

P.S. Thank you, Tracy, for sharing your absolute treasure trove!

This is exactly the kind of thing I've been wanting to learn but haven't gotten around to it yet. Thanks for asking, bobdawg!

Is there a particular version to download if we want the things from here to work? I heard a rumor only 4 would work, but that could be wrong. A special way to install Unreal if we'll be using that kind of content? Downloading Unreal files and loading them in?

A place with this kind of info would be really helpful if anyone knows of any. The blog mentioned above seems like a good source for tutorials, but I don't know if things work differently when the files come from here.

3dcu.com is my go-to whenever I'm searching for something old. You have to play all the games with the download limits etc. with rapidgator and turbobit, but there are some files on there that can't be found anywhere else anymore.

Has anyone ever tried to catalog those collections? They don't come with images, and a lot of them can't be found on the internet anymore.

We've had this conversation before, and despite us explaining why we love V4--how the mesh and materials both look better, how the clothes are modeled properly and not flat and formless--it was concluded we were just losers stuck in the past, which is particularly funny because I did say in that thread that I'm relatively recent on the 3D scene, and I've never even seen Poser.

It kind of bugs me that the solution is always something along the lines of "have the mods reconfigure the site so I don't have to scroll for three seconds." Or "have the mods download every file and check it over." Like the mods are sitting around getting paid to service our every whim. That they've done this much is a fantastic thing.

We should start a V4 lovers club. 🙂

I do love DAZ as a source of assets, but it would be the last place I'd look if doing an animation. Even the number of verts. I used to marvel at how much heavier even tiny items like wine bottles were compared to game mesh. It's like every single item was made for EXTREME closeups or something. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it is when speed and memory are an issue.

Even the way mats are attached. Someone was complaining about Linday hair the other day. I happened to be using it recently, and looking at it, it's actually not that heavy, but there were about 30 material zones for it, and each was a new instance of the same 6 or 7 materials containing 2 images. Ended up spending an hour reconfiguring the materials so I didn't have 30 separate instances of normals and 30 instances of alphas attached to one item in a file. I would have no idea how to go about doing that in DAZ or even if that's what DAZ does to it, but I have a feeling they do. My entire scene with multiple people, clothes, hair, objects, environment ended up being half what they said one person and hair took up memory wise.

What method are you using to get stuff into Blender? The bridge has been a disaster for me ever since 8.1 came out. Thought about trying my luck with the diffeomorphic one. I often have to resort to exporting obj in the most dire of circumstances.

Really I know very very little about using DAZ. I can get them made, dressed, and posed, and then it's off to Blender. Materials, presets, lighting? No idea. I usually end up redoing all the node trees myself when I get to the more familiar program. One of these days, I'll get around to learning more about it, but there's so much to learn it's hard to keep up.

If this 15 year old kid and his 3090 can do it, so can you. Yeah, I realize not everyone has a 3090, but if you're going to be making a movie of the highest caliber possible, let us not pretend it wouldn't take a thousand years longer on a 1070.

It would take time. It would take work. It would require you to relearn how to think of modeling and 3D software.

You have two major issues holding you back:
    1. You use DAZ
    2. You think like a DAZ user

DAZ wasn't made to be a movie making software. It's not optimized in the slightest. DAZ assets are fantastic, but they are laughably heavy when it comes to resources. I remember being shocked the first time I opened up a daz dress after a while working with video game assets. The number of vertices! OMG! The image sizes can be ridiculous too.

These guys making these amazing scenes are stripping away every unnecessary thing. Low poly, low samples, optix denoise if you can, procedural shading. Camera tricks like DOF and low lighting help disguise things that are lower quality, and the high quality stuff gets placed closer to the camera. Adaptive subdivision. A thousand little things to cut down render times. Switch to Eevee if you must.

Start thinking like this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whPWKecazgM

This is all Blender centric because that's the world I come from, but I imagine the same/similar goes for if you're an Unreal user, Max, whatever. And even I barely know what I'm talking about because I've just barely touched the world beyond still renders. My point is that you can wait until judgment day, but I don't think DAZ will ever get to the point of making Avatar. In another program? It's already possible, but it's not easy or fast. The fact we home users can do it at all is pretty incredible if you ask me.

I think a lot of people were divided on Chohole. She seemed nice to me, but I never ran afoul of her. She also made a lot of textures for some of the older outfits that were just stunning and gave them away for free.

I wish I'd gotten them all before her site went down (hard drive crashed a few months before she died). Only some are still available on wayback machine.

I absolutely do associate people with their avatars, and since I don't recognize most of the characters/people in them, the pictures just become who they are. I sort of imagine John Lund, for example, typing away with his little Santa puppet hands. Frank, your change was shocking. I'm still in the process of updating your presence's image in my head.

Do I treat them differently? I can't say. I don't believe so? The attitude put off in posts is something I come to associate with the photo though. I'd say my treatment comes after several interactions.

    Me? I'm just normal.
