It's not just the Gen 9 characters though. It started with Gen 8 too, and there are a whole slough of characters that are like playdough stamped from the same formless goo. There are also some really nice looking Gen 9 characters, but the cross compatability issues add a layer of difficulty that shouldn't be there. Where the fixes are more like user hacks than actual solutions. I still haven't found out a fool proof method to exchange items between Gen 8 & Gen 9 effortlessly without tons of errors or having it fail entirely if it's done with plugins. What bothers me most about 9 stock characters is that they are just boring for the most part. Not many of them jump out to the point I want them. So, since the majority of my characters are G8, any workflow is going to revolve around them.
What bothers me more across the board is the shift away from realistic faces to plastic surgery faces. The "They/Themming" of all the clothing, hair and faces. Where everyone is androgynous when that's not the real world. I strive for as much realism as I can get in faces, because that's going to draw in the viewer. I want the characters to have weight, to be believeable. For people to say "that reminds me of someone I grew up with." Instead of "Oh great, another botox face..."
I think someone mentioned a while back that the uncanny valley effect is off putting to most humans, and the same holds true here. When something is off, and we recognize something as fake, or not quite "human", it makes us recoil. It's deeply ingrained in our psyches.
I've always wondered if that was due to some deep past where humanoid robots walked among us, or alien hybrids with creepy auras who harmed humanity were doing whatever they wanted to people.
It's not some anti alien sentiment, because there's also evidence humans got along fine with other bipedal humanoid species, that some assume are "alien", from Arizona down to Peru, even coexisted in the same soceity together, but there's something deeper there about abhorrant behaviors and our fear of it happening again. Like our native American legend of giants who saw humans as a literal snack, and would hunt villagers, until they grabbed too many wives and cooked them up, and the village warriors burned the giants to death in a cave. When something not quite human is eating your family members, people are going to be very upset about it.

@Josie - Everything you said is facts, Josie. It's another way to push for this One Body, One Mind Cult Mentality that NO ONE WANTS. It loses our Qualia, our Agency as Human Beings. Everyone, is supposed to be Culturally Different. This Fake "CULTURE WAR" is nothing more than a Corpo Cult Psyop to get poeple to "SELL THEIR SOUL" for greed and give up their Autonomy.
And yes, the constant PUSH of Plastic Surgery-esque Stuff is getting out of hand too. It's one thing if you still look like a Female or Male, it's another when you turn into an Abomination, that is acting like ONE GENDER...*mic drop*
I wouldn't go as far as to say there is no divergence, or that divergence from the norm is wrong in itself. Because the world is full of divergence. It's just a product of being in a physical universe. It happens. DNA gets mixed up. There is always going to be a small percentage of that occurring due to external influences in fetal development beyond our control. But, when it becomes pushed as the only thing, & clearly the norm around it is entirely different, that is disturbing. I'm all for anyone doing whatever they want with themselves, as long as they are not imposing it on others. And simply being different is not an imposition, it's their right as adults, and often it is genetic. Like... do what you want, but don't tell me I have to be just like you, or think just like you, or become someone without any individual identity. That's never good for anyone, not even for people who are trans. There's a huge difference between the people who want everyone to be homogenous androgynous nobodies, because of their conformist ideology, and those who respect that everyone has differences and that's ok. There's also a huge difference between those who want everyone to be homogenous mindless drones of the state, because of their conformist ideology, and those who recognize everyone is different and that's ok. Both extremes are awful. There is always room for reasonable dissent. Just not forcing that dissent on people who disagree. Whatever other people do might not be your preference for the way you live your life, and you might think their ideas or lifestyle are disgusting, but they very well might think the same thing about you. The beauty of that is we can think something, but not force others to agree with us. We can agree to disagree, when those we disagree with are not going out of their way to harm other people over it. That's where I draw the line. I have no problem with people living their lives in a way that makes them happy, or a better, more honest person within themselves. But I do have problems with those who believe the only way to do that is by harming others.

That statement you said HOLDS THE MOST WEIGHT that Truth Seekers abide by, but the closeminded people think telling Truth, is "HATE SPEECH". We never tell anyone they can or can't do what they want. If they want to enjoy degenerate garbage, let em. But soon as they try to PUSH that onto others, they open themselves then to RETURN FIRE, and when they can't take the FLAK, ie Can only dish it out, but can't take it back, that is where people draw the line on this crap.
This is why they are creating fake dualities for a reason to keep us Divided and Distracted.
It is what it is, Josie. As I said before, I respect you and I agree with what you are saying. It's others in here that call you and I as "Schizos' when in fact they are the ones that are hurting themselves by not being respectful to other people's beliefs, but rather remove their autonomy when it is that AUTONOMY that defines us each as Human Beings. Without it, we are nothing more than Drones, ie Zombified Golems doing the bidding of the Cabal...
I really don't know many people here, but most of the people who participate here seem to have no ill will toward any of the rest of us. Or at least that's my perception. I'm not going to go out of my way to rub anyone wrong. I think being confrontational about it with our fellow journeyers in this life is not the best way to go about things. I just give people the benefit of the doubt, and they can hold their beliefs, even if those beliefs are misguided. Sometimes it's due to misconceptions, or they just aren't ready to see the world clearly. That's fine. Everyone arrives to the truth in their own time. Some won't see it until it's too late, but I can't control that. I stopped trying to save people or battle them into understanding. If they want to stick up for the jerks trying to ruin everyone, then that's on them. I'm not falling for it again and that's all I can do.

Nothing like using a 3D forum (from a piracy website) to throw a tantrum over digital plastic lips and genitalia while screaming about the "global cabal" completely blind to the fact that their own paranoid little circlejerk is already the most pathetic cult on the web. Time to rename it from GFX to "EchoChamberGFX," because nothing screams free thinker quite like a bunch of basement dwellers patting each other on the back for saving humanity from a Genesis 9's nose job and the 2 genital geografts included in their essentials pack.
I'm wondering if someone who hates G9 would be willing to post an image showing what they're talking about? I use G9 nearly exclusively now and I don't think my G9's looks masculine or ugly whatsoever. Obviously I'm biased towards thinking my characters are beautiful though.
I don't necessarily think they're ugly, just uncanny vally. Some are too perfect. Many have the same pursed duck lips, or pixie nose, and other than a sparse special exceptions, most of them really don't appeal to me. Even most of the G8 offerings I have to scroll through on DAZ are underwhelming or have too similar of a face to the 20 right next to them. The really ugly ones have unnecessarily wide mouths or long faces that just don't look in proportion unless you want a stylized character or something groteqsque. Some look unhealthy. I think if Daz had a better search engine with more specific operands you could check, like "realistic", it would help cut through the stuff I'm not interested in. However, there are some really good ones for cheap if you manage to make it past all the samey ones. I also think they don't always show the user their entire inventory because it's constantly changing even within a few seconds, which is frustrating when I barely catch something I want to go back to and then It's not there.
So can you pick one of these "samey" models and post a picture? I mean if they're all the same a single picture or two should be enough to see an example of what the complaint is?
Beauty is subjective so take that as a disclaimer. But Symmetry is a pillar of generally what people call beautiful. So if you have a complaint about the model having perfect symmetry then I find that strange. I mean Genesis models have options to introduce asymmetry so having a "too Perfect" face to start with is better in my opinion. Some faces that come asymmetrical are difficult to regain symmetry but on faces with perfect symmetry it's easy to undo the symmetry.
For me, many of the models actually look similar to the image I posted on the very first page.
It's just this kind of androgynous look, where the the women don't look like women and the men don't look like men, and neither look attractive by any normal beauty standard.

Can you link the model page for the top image if possible? Or maybe just the name of the character?
