I don't mean all of course, but I do mean many. Is it because of the shared base body (even though G1 was never this hideous)? Is uglification (especially of women) the actual goal? I just don't get it. Yeah, G9 might have super duper hi-res textures, but what does it matter when this is the end result?

Sorry for the rant, but it's just weird to me how Daz characters are getting progressively worse when it comes to the aesthetics. V4/G2, to me, actually had the most attractive characters, followed by G3/G8. G9 looks like it fell out of the ugly tree, and hit every branch on the way down.
July 7, 2026 at 12:41 PM #2179431You need to remember that when G9 rolled out in 2022, the World was at peak wokeness and "women" were allowed to be not quite as feminine as we used to be. Some of the Daz PA's obviously took this to heart and produced some real growlers. I'm not a fan of G9 myself, but if I were, I'd be looking to Colm Jackson for my fix. His women tend to be on the prettier side.
July 7, 2026 at 1:04 PM #2179436Yep, uglification is real. Even with some of the accessories. I've noticed that some of the coolest, most well designed clothing and accessories are being sidelined for stuff that looks too dumpy or too stylized. I prefer realism.
July 7, 2026 at 2:21 PM #2179438Like the above replies mention; largely down to G9 been released in middle of the woke agenda driven uglification push, which some working with Daz decided to follow for a good while.
Enshittification is the bigger issue now, what with the quality control of Daz store releases dropping off a cliff.
July 7, 2026 at 2:25 PM #2179439Very true.
In the absence of G10M & G10F, I am sticking with G8/8.1 M & F.
In the mean time IMO, the better G9 characters should be ported to G8.

July 7, 2026 at 2:48 PM #2179441look at hollywooke right now. The people that used to be the idols of the common folks are now quite ordinary ozempic clones.
Look at videogames... the more advanced the technology is, the uglier the heroines are.
Why daz was going to be different?
Appart from that, in the latest times there is lazyness in the creation of most of DAZ products. Even solid creator as aeonsoul, polish, luthbel... their new 'toys' have a lower quality than the older ones.
Have any of you seen a better product than Sanctum Arc's VAP armors of vehicle?? Ten years old (or more) and yet not overpassed?July 7, 2026 at 5:26 PM #2179449I think it's important to inject that there are many very bad G1, G2, G3, and G8 characters as well. Some of which if you saw them in your dreams it would be a nightmarish. That's the same for G9 as well.
One more thing which is the fact that it is difficult to create very beautiful characters. As I create characters there are some that I create that are very good (in my opinion) and there are those that I create that are very bad. I load them up months later and I think to myself wow this bitch is ugly as fuck.
Has anyone thought that maybe the people behind creating characters for AAA games and other mediums are actually despite their pay just NOT good at making characters look really nice? I find myself often wondering why these AAA studios who have artists being paid a good salary plus having a very beautiful real life model to work off of STILL can't pull it off.
My current conclusion is that it's difficult. But I'm not saying that there is no agenda for ugly characters either. Because from my estimation there is an agenda. These corporations don't want to serve gamers, etc. beautiful women even if the women are only virtual.
July 7, 2026 at 5:35 PM #2179450Those look way too good to be so old. A true standout.
July 7, 2026 at 5:48 PM #2179451There are a lot of very nice looking V4 characters, if you are referring mainly to a portrait style beauty.
July 7, 2026 at 5:56 PM #2179452It's not that they can't, because there are tons of replacer mods for modern AAA game characters that do a better job of cloning the IRL actors behind the characters, it's that the department leads force them to uglify their work, so they stop trying. And that's a whole other can of worms as to why it even happens in the first place. I think some of the recent offerings in DAZ and Poser are from the same artists who were told to "learn the new uglification 'skill' or be out of a job" and so now they do that in their other modeling. As to why it happens, there's an agenda coming from very large hedge fund owners to make all studios their property, and as a part of their takeover, they impose ESG standards on the studios. ESG is Environmental, Social, and Governance. Basically forcing values nobody else has on the public by forcing studios to tow the line or they can't make any money. They can't even get funding to produce anything, whether it's a videeo game, or a movie, without making sure a product slips in something about climate change, equity, inclusion, and other strange propaganda to demoralize the public. They can't even pay their cast or crew unless a 3rd party contractor goes through their scripts and casting choices to make sure they check all the boxes to fit into woketopia. This is why when someone says they want to make something for fans, or people that just want a good story, they pull the funding (re: Stargate making a new series cancelling). This is why they have people who absolutely hate a franchise, & admit they want to destroy it, being the executive producers. The goal is to demoralize the customer, and cater to a target audience that doesn't exist, because they want to force people to become the target audience they want, rather than have market sense and make something people will enjoy. It's one of the largest, most convoluted social engineering, demoralization, & brainwashing programs ever set in motion. It has infiltrated every facet of our society. Including government (no matter who is elected). Which is why I love that Obsession and Backrooms dominated at the box office, proving there's still a huge chunk of the population that rejects being forced to "adjust" to the brainwashing. I swear, once people get way too much money, or power, they really do not understand human nature, or the fact that it's impossible to change it.
July 7, 2026 at 6:08 PM #2179454Another factor is fear of litigation if they get likenesses too close. :0/
July 7, 2026 at 7:01 PM #2179457That never stopped them before. I'm pretty sure actors have to sign agreements to allow thier likeness to be used in movies and video games.
July 7, 2026 at 7:16 PM #2179459A lot simply do not get the eyes right imo. I use G9 but my pet peeves from both a technical standpoint (a lot of PA's literally have characters that do not match the socket to the eyes and they have this very floaty feel to them) as well as an artistic one (G8/3 had a lot more stylized eyes shapes that tended to just be prettier and less bloaty looking, way more 'models' like figures that have like sharper definitions on the face).
Also, people are lazy. They just went with this androgynous face for waaay too many characters. It works sometimes but it should be used less. Another opinion I have, is that as stated above they take inspiration from reality and add the Tumblr-esque woke slap to the humans they sculpt. This generation can get you characters that are on par and that surpass every generation that came before it facially. But it requires more skill and dedication. Those are my 2 cents.
July 7, 2026 at 7:53 PM #2179468I definitely agree there is a woke element to it, as not only are the women butt ugly, but all the male characters look like drag queens. I mean, Daz NEVER had a lot of good looking male characters, but they were never this bad:
July 7, 2026 at 9:26 PM #2179473The irony is that most of you are ranting about a "woke agenda" without actually understanding how these characters were made in the first place.
These shitty Daz Original characters came from DAZ AI Studio, an abandoned tool that basically generated characters by randomly mixing whatever Genesis 9 morphs the artist had available in their library. The artist only had to write the prompt and generate the thumbnails. So, what you're looking at is pretty much the result of someone clicking a "Random Character" button over and over again and picking the results that looked usable. The vast mayority of them share a creation date.
The morph pool the "PA" had was mostly made up of Genesis 9 Base, Xola https://www.daz3d.com/gideon-for-genesis-9 , Nathan https://www.daz3d.com/ezekiel-for-genesis-9 , Nikolai https://www.daz3d.com/anthony-for-genesis-9 , Walter https://www.daz3d.com/darius-for-genesis-9 , John https://www.daz3d.com/tristan-for-genesis-9 Julius https://www.daz3d.com/elias-for-genesis-9 , several Zacks https://www.daz3d.com/nathan-for-genesis-9 , Tabitha https://www.daz3d.com/claire-for-genesis-9, Cartoon Adult (etc) and the handful of proportions from the basic Daz 9 morphs Essentials pack, then it's not surprising that the AI kept producing the same general facial structure again and again, with only minor % differences. That's just how these systems work. They generated dozens of these in an afternon, so repetition was inevitable.
You're not looking at some carefully planned "uglification" campaign, you're looking at automated generation, a limited selection of morphs, and a lot of reused assets. There is no ideological secret tinfoild hat mission behind them.
Honestly, the most interesting thing here isn't even the characters themselves, but how quickly some people jump to a political explanation instead of looking at the actual production process, but it's not a suprise the most ignorant people are the ones jumping on those conclusions.
Sometimes the explanation is much less dramatic: someone pressed the Random button, got a bunch of results, and moved on. That’s it.
And regarding the uglification of the rest of the Daz Originals, yes, one of the 2 teams doing them are the ones doing most of the barbies which are copy paste and mixes of the previous 2-3 morphs, and other team makes the celebrity lookalikes like Sigrid Robin or Aro. Anyways, the person doing the morph is not the same as the one doing the texture sets, and most of the times the morphs are the problem.
