Well... maybe instead of getting 25pts per download, (if you upload an asset), how about only getting points for uploading to the blog?
So... lets say there are 6000pts in bounties for the asset, "Toilet Brushes of the Waffen SS". You buy it, distribute to requesters and get your 6K points.
Then, post it to the blog and get... 5000pts. After that you are done with that asset.
It can be done anonymously or credited to you. And you don't have to worry about 25 points per download. The bounties encourage us to buy and share, the uploading fee encourages us to upload to the blog.
Re-uploads might be worth less... If you re-up a dead assets, maybe that is worth 1000
I've suggested that the more sites somebody provides for downloading, the more they should get paid (to incentivize the time and effort of uploading to multiple sites) and maybe that could come into play here... 1500 per site I uploaded to... means if i did Anon, bunkr, and mega, I'd get 4500 for uploading... which would be the equivalent of 180 folks downloading it from the blog under current circumstances.
March 28, 2023 at 6:06 PM #1947997Since we're stirring the pot in this thread, I have a couple of other ideas to float:
I think it would be interesting to price requests and blog downloads proportionately to their (regular, non-sale) prices in the vendor marketplaces. An item that sells for $200 should cost more points than an item that costs $20, yet too often I see people offer the same 500 points (or less) for both, and of course everything costs the same (50 points) on the blog.
From the standpoint of a filler, when I'm thinking about buying an expensive item--particularly a bundle--and I see a bunch of 500-point offers it deters me. Just today I was about to purchase the two War Witch bundles until I saw the lowball offers in the request thread. Screw that, let somebody else cater to the cheap bastards.
I get that some people here have "philosophical" objections to offering more than 500 points for anything, and I can see how others just blindly look at what the person just before them in the thread offered and use that to guide their own offer. I just want to point out the effect this has on (de)motivating a potential filler who was about to spend real money to satisfy a request right away.
I got started here on the Zone by sharing more than a dozen Kitbash3D kits, which sell for $199 each, but with the request system and blog download credit system being what they are I would have been better off just sharing a bunch of $10 items. Hell, that's not even considering the storage costs--those KB3D kits are upwards of 70 GB each, and I've got paid storage accounts for sharing here. If I'd been smart, I would have just focused on pose packs--they're cheap, and they're tiny, and the Zone rewards them the same as a large, expensive KB3D kit.
It's a crappy incentive system, basically. I've had some people ask me about the newer KB3D kits like Warfare, Medieval Siege, Shogun, Outlaw, and Hong Kong, and I just want to laugh. It's not like I'm sitting on these assets, I don't own them yet, but there's very little incentive for me to spend the money as things stand.
So, to float a controversial idea, what if requests had a "suggested price" of 20 points per dollar of (regular, non-sale) vendor price? Currently the sticky posts "recommend" 500 points for most items, and 1000 points for bundles, but these don't always correlate well to actual prices--consider that a tutorial course on the DAZ Store can list for $120, while some smaller bundles are $40.
This would make a lot of the cheaper items less expensive, point-wise--an item would have to cost $25+ to be worth 500 points--while making it easier for fillers to justify spending the money on more expensive items--a $200 item would have a "suggested price" of 4000 points, for instance.
Now, to go along with this, of course, there would need to be an accommodation for those who insist on offering less than the "suggested price". Let's face it--an item is not necessarily worth as much to one person as it is to another; one person's urgent need is another person's casual collection filler. Fine. What I propose is that the offer correlate to the time delay before you receive the download link. If you meet the "suggested price" you get the link immediately, but if it's not worth that much to you, you can wait a few days or a week for it--its "cost" would go down to 50 points after 14 days whether it's posted to the blog or not, so the linear decline in the value of the item from the "suggested price" down to 50 points over 14 days would determine how many days you would wait, based on how low your offer was. Offer half the "suggested price" and you can get the item in 7 days, and so on.
As I've said before, here, I don't make policy, so none of the above is necessarily "in the works" at this point, but if we're brainstorming I figured I'd toss in a controversial twist (where's that demon-head emoji, anyway?) 😉

I'm open to all suggestions... the marketplace of ideas is an important part of any community.
I'm more or less, a 500pt bounty guy... UNLESS it is a Big Bundle and then I might go 1000 or 2000.
BUTIt wasn't so long ago, I was a ranking "4" member. And I thought to myself, WTF am I sitting on these points for?
The end result is/was that I often go through the request thread and just plop 500 down to help "build the kitty so to speak". If there are only a couple of requestors or a request is often long in the tooth, I drop 500 to add to the total and or bring it back up to the top.Paying off on all those certainly took its toll, as I am a low "1" now, but i guess it worked for me... and I have a shit ton of assets I will probably never use.
*ADDENDUM
Of course the new system will quash that kind of behavior, and I am sure I am not the only one that looks to help others get what they want....
Regardless, I welcome the new system, cause it will make the site a lot more tidy/efficientMarch 28, 2023 at 8:29 PM #19480181 -I've shared stuff on here for years and I have always shared because I wanted to , I buy stuff I like and if someone offers points for it bonus , some times the stuff is a new release other times it could be years old either way somebody else may like to have it or try it out.
2 - I buy stuff when I can , I share when I can.
3 - I also have had ppl give me stuff to post.
4 - I never shared stuff ANYWHERE that's not mine unless given permission from the original sharer.* Get rid of the point system all together every last point then we will see who all the real sharers are.
- It's easy to talk the talk now let's see you walk the walk.
March 28, 2023 at 8:34 PM #1948020@Itsmenotyou If we get rid of the points system how would someone "buy" stuff without points?
March 28, 2023 at 8:37 PM #1948021get rid of the point system altogether no more pts needed for anything
March 28, 2023 at 11:30 PM #1948074I rarely take part in the requests but I just did for the Magic Room one. I offered what I thought was a fair amount, not because I need it immediately or because of its dollar price, but because it seems really well made and looks great. If I wasn't on the OAP I'd buy it.
It's brand new so IMO, and as discussed in other threads, it should have a delayed release so the PA can make some money before it goes into the wild.March 29, 2023 at 2:07 AM #1948092yeah there should always be a delay in posting a new item a week or longer some stuff maybe a lot longer considering how new the artist is , but some ppl get soo impatient and they want it right away and I understand that some times you see something u just have to have . 🙂
March 29, 2023 at 11:34 AM #1948328As someone who has benefitted from @queensknight kb3d shares, I agree 100% on the points. iirc, I offered 10k for those when I requested them.
Uploaders should be accommodated as much as possible here. As I've posted a gazillion times, they are the lifeblood of this site. They should be able to share what they want, when they want, with who they want (within some reasonable limits that Hunter sets). 90% of sharers are good folks who want everyone to get their items (eventually). The other 10% have reasons that they don't want to do that. But if I really want the new KB3D kits (and I do), then I'll offer a fair price in points. They are usually $100 for the first week or two after release. What's a fair price for that? Only the sharer can determine that. I've been here many years and there are no new ideas that I've seen on how to "improve things". Hunter seems to be satisfied with the way things are and I can live with that.
March 29, 2023 at 12:43 PM #1948358@Queensknight when the new system comes out what is going to happen with all the current and past requests that have not been filled ? are we going to start over , re-requesting them or is it all going to be moved to the new system ie: something requested six months ago will still be valid and u will have pts taken from ur account and held in escrow until it's filled or u cancel it.
March 29, 2023 at 9:55 PM #1948508@itsmenotyou, there's no automated way to (accurately and reliably) convert all of the postings in the Requests forum to the new system, so I imagine that the transition of existing requests will be gradual. New requests would obviously be encouraged to go into the new system, and if there are older requests in the Requests forum that people want to "bump", they could add them to the new system to give them more visibility and then delete them from the Requests forum.
Another way to handle it might be to delete any threads in the Requests forum that are older than some threshold age, and basically treat those as "expired" requests. (The new system has expiry built-in.)
This is an area that could benefit from a "roll up your sleeves" initiative for members who want to contribute by porting requests to the new system, possibly with a points-based reward for the work.
So in a nutshell, maybe a strategy like this:
- Expire Request forum posts older than XXX days (to get rid of the old stuff)
- Encourage new requests to go to the new system (to slow growth of the Request forum)
- Offer members some points for pitching in and porting the remaining requests to the new system
It's definitely too big a task to put on the Moderators, and as I said, automating the task would likely be too error-prone, so I'd recommend this be a member initiative 🙂
As far as the status of any requests left in the Request forum after the new system is in place, those would all still operate by the old process--forum threads, manual PMs and points transfers, no escrow, etc.
March 30, 2023 at 7:47 AM #1948618k thanks 🙂
