@robf4g210 : You can write as much as you want. I don't think you'll bore us with your legend. I'm very eager to see your entry.

I was asked if the first option for judging was anonymous. Would you all prefer that?

I've always wanted to depict this legendary story in a render. Now @miarka gave me an excuse!

    Title: Pardo’s Push

In March of 1967, Captain Bob Pardo and his wingman, 1st Lieutenant Earl Aman, had taken heavy fire on a mission over North Vietnam. Pardo's damage was somewhat light and he would have been able to make it back to their Air Base, but Aman's fighter had been hit hard and he was rapidly losing fuel. Although Pardo could have saved himself and his aircraft, he chose to stay with his wingman and try to help him get back to friendly skies. That's when Pardo had an idea. He instructed Aman to lower his tailhook on the back of the aircraft. Pardo then carefully maneuvered his F-4 below and to the rear and made contact with the lowered tailhook at his windscreen. He then proceeded to "push" the crippled aircraft 88 miles until they were safely into South Vietnam. At this point, Pardo had expended all of his own fuel and the aircrew from both fighters were forced to eject from their aircrafts where rescue crews could come retrieve them.

Despite this heroic and selfless act of courage, Captain Pardo was demoted for losing his own aircraft when he could have saved it. Go figure. The USAF rectified this travesty in 1989 when they gave him a Silver Star for his bravery. I feel it should have been the Medal of Honor.

    Title: Greatness, Claimed the Stars
    Greatness, Claimed the stars

    greatness claimed the stars

"Alright son, its time for bed." "Will you tell me a story Dad?"-said the son. "Its awfully late," responded the father. "But I suppose a short one will be okay." The boy quickly perked up with big smile on his face, and looked to his father in anticipation. "This is an old, old story. Long ago, A Man had worked his whole life, aspiring for greatness and worldly wisdom. His lordship began to cover a vast amount of lands.. With his great wealth and power, the Man would never have an equal. Over time his obsession for greatness unknowingly began to lead him astray, and into the depths of destructive arrogance. Threatening, and treating other humans like dirt beneath his feet.. He would needlessly get his soldier to take innocent lives simply for enjoyment. He called himself a god, as no other human on earth had more possessions then himself. One day however, as he was walking along his shore the sky began to thunder at a near deafening volume, even though there were little to no clouds overhead. In an instance a massive being -human in shape- crouching in the water, looked to him with great concern. The Man fell to the ground throwing his arm to the air screaming in fear! For during that day, to an undeserving man, Greatness showed itself in its true and humble form. With only a glimpse of his Power, Greatness opened the heavens to show only a small part of what was his, before gently fading before the mans eyes. Truly, truly that day, the man was shown just how wrong he had been.. The Man later realizing the error of his way, started to give all his belongs and land away, as he had come to find that it was never his to begin with. He told the entire story time and time again. Yet no one ever fully believed him. Through the years, the story became myth, and then nothing more then a legend. The oddest part of the whole thing," the father explained- "is that even if you go back to the same spot, on the very same day of the year in which the man described. There is not a single star in the direction that the Great being pointed his hand towards. Almost as if, in that moment he pulled them from existence! Today, scientists call it the Boötes void. As it is an unexplainable phenomenon where there is seldom stars in a large area of the universe." In complete awe, the boy sat there petrified at what he just heard. Suddenly the boys face goes blank, and immediately this extremely confused look comes across his face as he asks, "what does penomanom mean?" His dad smiled saying, "it means... we don't or haven't come to understand why something is the way it is. Until then, all we have are the legends that are told to explain it." He then gave his son a hug and tucked him into bed. "Sleep well my son."

Below you will find my intro and then my photo entry. Additionally there is a link at the bottom for the actual render of the photo before postwork.
    -----------------------

I present to you a legend of the American Old West. A buffalo hunter, gambler, miner, card dealer, stage driver, saloon owner, and many other things over the years. But none of these things make the legend. Soft-spoken, with nerves of steel he survived countless gunfights through extraordinary patience and a resolute manner. He would become one of the most famous lawman of the frontier. From chasing killers over 400 miles to the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, legends are well embellished and numerous. I submit for your approval, Wyatt Earp.

And as promised, this link leads to the original pre-post render.

@robf4g210 - You should, they are quite fun to do aged photos like that. But it is funny you say that because my entry was almost closer to your entry. I was going to do an epic air scene but after 3 days of searching for a suitable high res Enola Gay model I turned to one of my other favorite things.

Well I’m tempted to help you find that model. I would love to see that render. Your last aviation scene blew me away!

@robf4g210 Aw Thank you. I need to set some time and put a new render on that one since I've moved some things about but the kids keep wanting to do silly stuff like play games. I went ahead and put up a bounty request for the B-29 and added a AC-130 for good measure since I can't find a decent model of that one either.

I really like this contest. All artworks are different from each others. It'll be very difficult to vote/judge.

Indeed, that's one of the two I've been watching out for. Sadly, it's a bit out of my price range at the moment.
