Contest: Film Noir

The theme for this contest will be “Fim Noir”.

Film Noir: a style or genre of cinematographic film marked by a mood of pessimism, fatalism, and menace. The term was originally applied (by a group of French critics) to American thriller or detective films made in the period 1944–54 and to the work of directors such as Orson Welles, Fritz Lang, and Billy Wilder.

The objective is to create a piece that embodies the mood and technical elements of the Film Noir genre

No freebie will be required for use with this contest. The competition will be closed for submissions on March 12 at Midnight GMT. At contest closing, a new “judging” thread will be opened and you, the members of ZoneGFX, will judge each entry based on technical and creative aspects. Judging will close on March 15 at midnight GMT and the winners announced within 24 hours.

Prizes for this contest are as follows:
27,000 points for 1st place
18,000 points for 2nd place
12,000 points for 3rd place

As an added bonus, I will donate 1000 points for each participant for simply entering the contest.

Rules for this contest will be the same as any other with regard to nudity, violence, gore, or inappropriate themes.

To submit your entry, simply post your artwork to this thread using a link from an image hosting site such as Imgur or Postimg. There are multiple threads in the forums with detailed instructions if you need help, or pm me for guidance. Artistic nudity is allowed as long as a URL shortened is used (such as Bitly) to hide the artwork.

Only one entry per contestant.

Two queries....with so many points on offer, why not award 5 entrants?, and secondly, why is 3rd place being unfairly treated when more points are donated?.

Very valid questions, @hawkeye. Let's put it to a consensus. Would everyone like to see more winners, and does everyone feel that the point allocations are unfair?

Typically, I've been increasing the awards when donations come in at a ratio of 50%/30%/20% (roughly). As the total pool gets larger, the gap does seem to exponentially increase.

It's still early enough to change these particular parameters, since no winners have been announced.

Or if you can look at it thus way, second is the first loser.

There are 3 medals in the Olympics. I dont recall a 4th.
In school I got a lot of participation ribbons cause i suck at life. But a lot of others git the same ribbon. Its only so kids didnt feel bad and leave empty handed.

Im not a kid any more and im happy with 3 places and a you suck bonus prize.

were does it end? top 5, top 10, top 20?
