    I keep getting comments about my art and the EXTRA work I put into it. At NO time, that I recall, has there ever been a contest or rule of 3D art that has stated NO POSTWORK, or DAZ/POSER/3D rendering ONLY! And when/if there is, I will abide by the rules.

    The 1st 3 lines of this post are for those that are limited in their creativity and skill, to only using a 3D program and think others should be limited too..

    That being said, don't critique me or my art because I think outside the box and use all available tools at my disposal in order to create the best possible image. Its the same thing as saying a landscaper can only use a push lawnmower to do lawn work, including trimming the hedges, pruning the trees, digging up grass to lay a stone pathway, and then pouring the cement or laying the stones. Try digging a pond with a lawnmower and let me know how that went.

    Thats fine if YOU don't want to use a weed wacker to get the tall grass next to the flowerbed. But your landscape won't look as good.
    News flash: 3D programs aren't the beat all end all. And you do know that most of the textures were made in a 2D program, right? pretty much all 3D art has 2D applications heavily involved. Just because I use a 3D program or am a member here, it doesn't mean my art HAS TO look like it was rendered in a 3D program alone or that I'm allowed to ONLY use a 3D program.

    BTW, this site also has 2D tools that I use (as well as sold on DAZ3D), and are MEANT to be used with Daz/Poser renders. And I'm not the only artist who uses 2D apps to enhance/finish/polish their art.

    I choose to NOT be stagnant and single tooled....There's none so blind as those who will not see. Give it a try. Expand. Experiment. LEARN..You might be surprised.

    But if you want to complain about 2D apps being used in conjunction with a 3D program, then your next render should be like the image I'm posting.

    hi key lighting contest winner

    for the most part im lazy and dont want to put the extra effort in post after i spent hours posing and lighting.
    I have ok PS skills from editing RL photos ( least i think so ) but nothing near what ive seen online. Photomanipulation was an interest of mine awhile ago. Some site called worth has had some amazing works.

    I have no idea who would complain about 2D postwork on a 3D render. Doesn't everyone do some form of postwork? I know that Tomsk renders sections then photoshops them together, I adjust lighting and take out bits I don't like in post, I'll also sharpen the image and apply various filters to get it looking the way I want it to. If anyone's been complaining about your work in such a way, then ignore it. Everyone uses some form of 2D to make their image better.

    There's a reason it's called postwork.
    If we didn't have the tools it would be called something else.

    I've seen many people strive on Deviant art to get the most out of whatever render engine they use and claim to have not used any kind of postwork. No-one ever believes them.

    Regardless, 3D art without postwork, is like fish and chips without salt and vinegar!

    @Tomsk and ketchup

    i used to think that post was a cheat but i've come to understand and believe that it is just one more tool available to create great art. i've only just now started using post. first only to fix poke through and other such problems but now i'm using it to enhance my renders. i look forward to the time that my skills are up to par with some of the stuff i've seen here.

    @Dragon
    keep on POSTing and posting. (see what i did there?) 🙂

    Actually 3d is the cheat for people either to lazy to start from scratch or not capable of starting from scratch. JMHO

    I use 3D because I don't have an artistic bone in my body.
    I'd love to be able to draw or even sketch! Stick figures ftw!

    Traditional or digital, I have no talent. 3D I'm passable.

    I think a 10 year old has more 2D talent than me, so Daz lets me cheat.

    Thanks everyone.. I appreciate the support.

    I'm a traditional artist as well as a traditional digital artist ( I draw/paint with a graphics tablet) I work with 3D and I used to take photos. I also write poetry. I've also done photo manipulation to a small degree.

    The computer has enabled me to EXPAND my mind AND my creative talent.
    Traditional, I can't paint to save my life. But I can use a pencil, charcoal and pen n ink like nobodys business.

    Computers allow me to bring color into my worlds. And I enjoy combining EVERYTHING.
    PLUS, my computer won't allow me to render STRICTLY fully completed, lighted-textured - complex 3D.

    DAZ Studio IS just another tool. I challenge myself and am always learning new things.

    @tomsk don't sell yourself short. You ARE creative and I've used parts of your technique to enhance my own. TY for sharing them.

    @bobdawg
    And I'd say without the tarter sauce. 😉

    @drgnmztr Just do what you're doing, it's all art and you should only really worry about the finished piece. If you want to shut people down though, maybe you should educate them on what steps you went through to get the effect you end up with? Maybe they don't know how to use other programs outside of rendering? If you look at all professional 3d work and how the artists talk about getting their look they talk about their "workflow" and what programs they use in their workflow. It's never just one program for everything and even when rendering sometimes it's rendered in stages for different effects within the same program.

    I knew a guy who used to do really great watercolour work but saw some of our teachers watercolours and asked how he got some of his crisper lines. He handed him some coloured pencils, and told him mixed media is the way to go. 😉

    @tomsk fish and chips, no salt, swimming in vinegar with a bottle of tartare sauce on the side for dipping the chips

    It may be that since they are not able to do this it would be considered an unfair advantage.

    If you have a person that is truly gifted in multiple formats they will normally win. If im capable of customizing a character in Zbrush, creating clothing, inproving textures and am skilled in PS and most other 3d formats its kinda pointless to compete. I use to play drums, take photos often and still shoot often. I would not be able to compete with anyone that doest this at a higher professional level unless i just got luck with a good picture.

    This may or maynot be true and you milage may vary.
