I've noticed two vendors from RenderHub in here trying to justify their use of an online capability of their tools. Sorry folks, we're not buying it (literally and figuratively).

The other interesting point, again in RenderHub, is the present discussion of whether or not using AI is art. That talentless assclown Dreamlight is there defending his shit offerings and add-ons. He isn't mentioning, and maybe doesn't realize that the same AI tools that he uses to create his crap, can be used by anyone to create their own crap/art. Even I, as a long time holdout of traditional tools, is screwing around with installing the latest Comyui/Qwen-image-2.1 thingamajig. What I lose on one side, I gain on the other.

I knew AnjaBear for a long time and we chatted often, even before her Discord server. I was there when her, her partner, and another gent or two created MPE (Male Poser Erotica). It was going to feature gay stuff since Render-fucking-otica was hostile to any and all gay items. MPE got lots of attention when it started and several artists from Pervert'Otica moved there. At some point Andrew, the owner of Asshole-otica hired hackers to take down MPE. They did and the place collapsed. The hack was discovered and Piece-of-shit-otica was taken to court. They where found guilty but the other owners put all the blame on Andrew stating that he had operated on his own. MPE never recovered and neither did those involved. AnjaBear and her partner are now gone as is that fuckbag Andrew who died not long after the court case. Somewhen following this, RenderOtica changed hands. Well it seems that the original gang is back in charge. I check it every day and the activity level is very low. I hope the place goes under...they deserve it.

I use and trust online tools at work all day long - AWS, Dynatrace, MS Office 365, PagerDuty, and etc - just to name a few.

BUT, those services are run by established corporations with legally binding Service-Level Agreements, and an outage report from me won't be greeted with "oops - sorry we're offline for a bit and you can't use the thing you paid for anymore, but it'll be back online the moment I can get competent enough to troubleshoot and repair my vibe-coded slop. Should be only a couple of weeks after I get back from Holiday, tops."

As for "AI isn't art!!!11"? LOL... I still remember in the long-ago when the Photoshop nerds were screaming that CG rendering wasn't really art. Argument probably goes back to charcoal purist Og yelling to any Cro-Magnon in earshot that using Ocher for cave paintings didn't really count as art.

The whole Renderotica drama points out something scary, though - we're all getting real damned old. I can't believe I hung around doing this stuff for way over a quarter-century, and every time I think ab out that, I wonder WTF - how much longer will I be around to do it? It is still fun after all these years, though. Can't imagine what other guys my age are thinking when they look on their lives of wasting time in vidya or watching pro-sportsball; at least I have a huge digital collection of my efforts to go back to and admire from time to time.

The scariest part is that the Elders of this hobby are dropping like flies (I mean, I remember back when Diane and Jack ran r'otica, back when Doc Legume was modding its forums and scaring normies over at Renderosity. Diane is dead now, and I almost bet that Jack is probably pushing daisies as well.)

    @supreme-leech
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks Dreamlight is absolute rubbish. But thanks for the info 😀

Talent is definitely not what comes to mind when I see his stuff the stuff whatever AI generated it or wherever he stole it from to resell... Aad he’s been selling AI crap on the official Daz store, while Richard Haseltine has the balls to delete forum posts calling it out and deny that there’s AI content in the store, even though Daz supposedly bans all AI generated content... make it make sense.

Now with SynthID’s website publicly available, anyone can scan textures to find out which AI was used to generate them.

That's a hoot @pooper! I sometimes think that the 3D part will die out with us, replaced by AI generated stuff. Still, I'm fiddling with the idea of combining the two. I working on getting that newfangled comfyui/Qwen-....oh...I said that already. I'd love to dress a real model in some fancy. ornate outfit and place her in some scene from Civitai. That can then be altered with instructions(?) from Civitai Red. Since it's advancing so quickly I'm sure I'll be able to do what I want before long. Maybe it isn't art but I don't care.

I don't think "Richard Haseltine" is a real person but a stand in mod. for a circus ride of all the other employees.

Yes I highly doubt a single person has posted 111,878 times since 2003. That’s at least seven posts a day, every single day since October 2003, at all hours of the day and night. It’s definitely a job, and a concerted effort, that’s for sure. It’s the company’s collective voice, allowing them to say whatever they want and delete comprimising opinions without ever having to admit it was them.

@otero33, Over 100K posts?! Wow! That kinda nails it doesn't it. Someone should post THAT in their forums and see how long it takes them to delete the post.

    “Enter The Forum”

A Studio user takes pride in the scene they’ve rendered. They composed the scene from models they purchased.

A second Studio user scoffs, saying they shouldn’t have used the scene ‘out-of-the-box’, but rather kitbashed it with other purchased models.

Modeler 01 enters and scoffs, opining that their own method is superior, because they produce their own models to compose scenes to render. They dismiss those who buy models made by others who then produce scenes to render.

Modeler 02 chimes in explaining that their method is even more superior, because they generate primitives to produce models to then create scenes to render.

Modeler 03 says that their method is even more superior, because they don’t rely on the program to generate primitives. They claim they make their own custom primitives from scratch by creating polygons from vertices.

Both Modeler 01 and Modeler 02 scoff at Modeler 03 saying that that is a waste of time.

Modeler 04 enters the forum and says they learned to code and produced their own modeling program that offers options their programs cannot and therefore their method is the pinnicle of superiority.

Coder 01 asks Modeler 04 what coding method they used, because this method is better than that method.

The original Studio user says those are all intriguing methods to employ to create scenes to render, but prefers the Studio method because it’s simple, fun, and satisfying to them.

The original Studio user asks how they got started in modeling and coding. The modelers all say they started out using Studio/Bryce/Poser 10-20 years prior, but wanted to exceed the limitations of those program(s). The Studio user points out that they are all scoffing at decades old versions of themselves.

Then an AI user enters the forum who touts the advantages of downloadable Loras. They all scoff at the AI user for generating images instead of making the images themselves.

Another AI user scoffs, saying it’s better to model one’s own Loras.

    'Round and 'round she goes.

What do they all have in common?

They render images that they hope will satisfy their needs and/or desires.

    Anything else is mere preference.
