@errilhl I can basically agree with that.
However, even the internet has online art schools. š
But the main point is, don't snarkasize or look down on another because you lack the equivalent skills, or whatever reason. Ask questions instead.
June 13, 2018 at 5:21 PM #639710I am replying to your OP and have not read the thread. I want my reply to be as pure as possible.
The PMs, comments in private, about your postwork should just roll off your back like water. I consider ZoneGFX to be a great learning forum. Complaining to you about your postwork really can't help anyone. You have, by starting this thread, done your best to do what the people who commented privately to you should have done. That is, ask how others feel about postwork, why it is done, and for constructive feed back on the subject.
Perhaps the comments were from new people who donāt understand postwork, IDK. You did, hopefully enlighten them about the relationship between 2D and 3D programs. Iād like to add that, AFAIK, most 3D programs have plug-ins (add-ons, etc) which are somewhat like doing postwork within the 3D software.
The FaceGen Artist Pro 2.1 app is kind of like prework. Thatās a whole other subject⦠or is it? There are skydomes too (arenāt they often photographs?)
Anyone who complains they canāt do postwork because they donāt have a 2D painter, I suggest GIMP, itās free, and very good.Postwork takes place all over, not just with 3D renders. Vanity Fair magazine had issues with their post photo work giving Oprah Winfrey three arms, and Reese Witherspoon three legs (as an example of proof, Google it for images). In todayās world if you really want an organic photo you really need to build a pinhole camera, and your own dark room to develop the film.
The ZoneGFX FAQ āAbout ZoneGFXā section only mentions ādigital creationsā, but it does mention āgroups ⦠that cover tips and tricksā¦ā. The tab label in my browser reads ā3D Zone ā A Site For 3D Modelsā. To me, a digital creation is more than just a 3D render. Tips and tricks are not just within 3D software, but well outside of it. Fixing damaged āassetā files, postwork outside of the 3D software, even help making your hardware work better are all tips and tricks.
Now on to the contests: Contest entries here are submitted by any member. They are voted upon by (depending on the contest) anyone whoās a member (and for some contests, even non-members). There is no voting panel. Voting is not limited to some legal science. Simply put if I donāt like an entry, I donāt vote for it (or place it well in voting).
Contests are often very vague with rules other than the basic common ZoneGFX rules. I think it is part of the fun. As a spectator I read the contest ātopicā and wait to see what the contributors do with it. For example, a contest with the topic āUltimate Sports Fansā could have submissions of people decked out in crazy sports team memorabilia. It could have a sweaty man watching sports on TV with a bunch of oscillating fans blowing air on him. It could a sale on Dyson fans with sports teamās logos stamped on them. It could be an image of a guy āfanningā on a hockey shot on goal.
Contests are for fun and show casing what YOU can do.
What if someone was rendering using the yet to be released GeForce 1180 GPU, and on an also yet to be release Threadripper2 CPU, using an unreleased copy of DAZ? What if they worked for Pixar? There are many unknown factors when it comes to the finished entries.
Iāve gotta go now, I have a bunch of fourth graders finger painting here and Sallyās upset that Tommyās fingers are bigger than herās and heās using more paint. Alice is whining that Michelleās drawing thin lines with her finger nails and not just using her finger tips.
In the end, to each their own. And water off a duckās (or Dragons) back.
I would love to see someone host two contests inspired by the OP. Contest one: āOrganic Assets Renderā (like the image Dragon posted). I think this could make for a very interesting contest. And contest two: āOrganic Renders to postworked imageā, simply a render with no postwork, then a second image with the post work. Voting could be on both images. Before anyone suggests I host any contest: I currently lack the dedication to do so, and the points.
--- for anyone still reading:
And now a completely different approach to the subject, Amazing Kreston style. I am not privy to the comments made to Dragon, but I suspect they are with regards to Dragons āJames Bondā themed entry to a contest recently. I also suspect the comments were not so much that post work was done, but the 2D to 3D work ratio perceived. Is it a 3D render or a āPhotoshoppedā image? What came first, the chicken or the egg?
--- the bottom line:
Just vote.
--- more along the lines of my PMs:
BTW, Dragon, I like your digital creations, your rant analogies could use a bit of work though. 😊
June 13, 2018 at 9:58 PM #639923@tucker Thank you. awesome post reply.
LOL, my analogy is real though. I have acreage to mow and don't have a riding lawn mower ATM, (just bought the house/land) and my weed eater is broke, so I have to hire my neighbors grandson to come over. Last year I just had him do the mowing, and I never got the trimming done. Looked like crap. LOL

June 14, 2018 at 7:50 AM #640418@tomsk Chips, Cheese & Gravy, nothing else!
As for the actual topic, I love postwork possible more than rendering š But the wha wha wha and all that is probably the reason I have never posted any results yet. š Maybe one day, huh?
But yeah the 3D Sites all sell these tools alongside the models so one would assume they want you to try to use those too? Silly I know... š
