I've also got plenty of points to spare if anyone knows a user on this site who does a good job of conversions in exchange.
January 4, 2025 at 9:40 PM #2112077Can't recall if I asked this before but is there a good tutorial for converting skin textures via Blender? I'm handy enough with Blender but I'd need a steo-by-step for converting skins between figures. Just thought it would be really nice to have some G9 skins I like on my G8 figures, and don't wanna shell out for Ultimate Unwrap3D. Thanks in advance!
July 25, 2024 at 6:45 PM #2084348You gotta place all those little props manually? Fuck that.
June 26, 2024 at 11:35 PM #2080622Yeah I feel like the quality of clothing has gone way downhill with G9. It's all this lame cosplay/fandom stuff like Not Boba Fett or Not Sylvanas Windrunner or Not Super Mario instead of unique and creative originals.
February 17, 2024 at 5:27 PM #2059037I'd rather have things the other way around, G9 skins for G8. That Cayman Studios product is useless if you use any grafts other than the default anatomical elements, so it's not an option for me.
November 12, 2023 at 8:45 AM #2041825Is there a good tutorial for rebaking textures (G9 to G8 in this case) using Blender? I've heard that Ultimate Unwrap 3D does a very good job of that but I haven't been able to get my hands on a full copy and hesitant to pay for something that may not even work out the way I hope for.
November 11, 2023 at 4:10 AM #2041553I've always used a laptop for Daz, the biggest issue being VRAM: Nvidia puts less memory on their laptop GPUs, so you have to go bigger there than a desktop user would. So make sure you aim high (4080 or 4090) and you'll be sittin' pretty for a few years. Best bang for your buck models are the HP Omen 16/17, Asus Strix G18, Eluktronics Prometheus XVI G2, or my personal pick, the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i. Depending on your budget this is a great month to shop, in part because of Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, and because new laptop models are usually unveiled at CES in January so there's a desire to push late models prior to that.
November 3, 2023 at 1:20 AM #2039716I'm not fond of Ghost Light Kit one or Invisilights. If you add point lights to a scene that contain those, for example, ghost lights on the environment (candles, lamps, etc.) and point lights on your actor, an absolutely bonkers amount of noise is generated. Anybody know what's up with that or have any suggestions to fix it? The usual tricks (Nominal Luminance for example) don't mitigate it. Thanks in advance!
November 2, 2023 at 6:28 PM #2039626The new "Ghost Light" method they added: https://youtu.be/-guqQhPDoMw?si=zVmIcJL5d9nsS6nY
It's different from the newer Ghost Light Kit One and Invisilights. There's new Advanced Properties Nodes you can add to an object to cull it from view. From what I've seen playing around with it, they fix the noise problem that previous ones did in versions 4.20-4.21. The only drawbacks to it I've found so far is that the properties don't carry over to instances, and if you place them behind glass like a window, they will appear in a render.
November 2, 2023 at 7:32 AM #2039529There's a fairly easy way to get around that idiotic new popup dialogue. Remap "New" to Ctrl+Shift+N, and create a new custom action for your template scene. Remap that to Ctrl+N and you're back in business.
November 1, 2023 at 4:32 AM #2039338All the Fit Control morphs in the world can't help if the clothing converter (or autofit) does a poor job to begin with. It's a shame that clothes can't transfer as well as they did from G3 to G8, because with what's available for G9 right now (a lot of lingerie mostly) there's very little to dress up with, or accessorize with. And I'm pretty picky about wardrobe to begin with so there's maybe like one Linday dress I've found worth using. So it's definitely not a "never" with G9 just a "not sure about right now."
October 25, 2023 at 5:32 PM #2038401Circling back to this subject, the main deal-breaker for me with G9 now is the inability to properly convert clothing and accessories. Hair is easy enough fitted to the head as a prop, but the clothing converter from G8 to G9 doesn't function the same way as previous editions. Not being able to preserve the bone structure on a lot of outfits, or having them fitted rather poorly in a lot of cases, makes most of my wardrobe useless on the new figure. It's extremely disappointing.
August 20, 2023 at 7:22 PM #2016158I've played around with G9 on and off since it was released last autumn and my main issue with the figure is the new UVs. I'm so heavily invested in textures (skin, makeup, etc.) for G3/G8 that it's hard to adjust. There's still a lack of morphs and figures available for G9, compared to G8, but I know it's just a matter of time with that stuff. I can't say I have the same complaints about the unimesh that others do; with some adjustments, you can still create some comparably shaped figures. But I understand folks' frustrations with the figure. Genesis 8.1 was barely a couple of years old and boom, Genesis 9. Makes me wonder how long a lifespan the current generation will have before they upgrade again and try to milk folks for even more money.

That's the outfit, the artist just removed a lot of the elements.
