Its not about the points. I posted something not long ago and someone had a complete meltdown and felt the need to harass me about it, so this is my way of making a point.

Render time in 3DL are based upon the CPU speeds. I have an i7 3.8gz system. it clearly renders faster than my i5 2.0ghz system but what 3DL has over Iray is when the image is done...it stop drawing and doesn't keep going to some predefined number of iterations or time. 3DL also has the ability to do HDRI lighting...inside a closed room using Uberenviroment2 settings. light settings are as written with studio. 0 is dark 100 is bright as hell. no emitters with 1million lumen settings. 3dl is perfect, advanced, and still being updated...DAZ3D has no interest in updating their system to support it do to 3Delight the company changed how shaders work.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWEtCsi3Eo8
Netflixs Dragon Prince was made using Maya I think, with the 3Delight render engine. (the current version has a toon based system that makes high quality work...in my opinion.)

Everyone feels their opinion is best and why. It's the down side of this hobby.
Don't give up...there are a few who will help and give you what you need to get started.
First off...Vicky isn't where you think she would be, she's not listed under the DAZ side of the house.
Look in the poser side of things and you'll find DAZ People. She's there.

"Drive" (in my case it's D: ---- Figure ---- DAZ People
(if you don't see it, you may or will need to use the Content Directory Manager and map the exact location where your content folder is located.)

but not all things will work for her as she needs two plugins which are found in the POSE folder. "Inj Morph ++" and "INJ Base". this will allow you to use ALL the figures for v4.

But if you're new to the whole DAZ thing. I STRONGLY suggest you kick it off with the G2 Figure. It runs and works just like G3 and G8 with a few minor issue that have to deal with the weight mapping (ie you pose...wait a second...and the body moves to it's final position. think of it like Studio is inflating the limbs to fit and look right after you did the pose.)

Shaders, you need 3DL shaders and the absolute standard of anyone I've talked with since I started this hobby is GeorgeHaze's Ultimate shader pack. It's a pack that he offered DAZ and they turned him down...it's the number one downloaded shader pack for 3DL and still seeing use.

    Good luck.

Oh and I forgot to mention. One of the very best light sets for 3DL was made by 3D Universe. Back when Genesis1 was popular 3D Universe packaged up light sets with their toonish girls. (this one does not need the Age of Armour light pack)

    https://zonegfx.com/jasmin-for-genesis-bundle/

Jasmin's lights are by far the best settings and usable for general lighting in any 3DL Setting.

    However....
FWSA (Fred Winkler & Sabby) also sold their earlier products with light sets. One for the bare bones 3DL settings and one with Age of Armour light settings.
    https://zonegfx.com/fwsa-adaline-hd-for-victoria-7/
(comes with light settings for 3DL and AOL)

Another very beneficial tool to have for 3DL rendering is the Age of Armour lights sets. once you set your diffuse material to 99% for the hair, there is a setting with all the lights that will in essence tell the shadows to look and treat the hair differently and thus... your system won't feel like it's locked up while it works the math for doing the hair.

Over on DevientArt, GrandSachi did all his renders for his D&D like comic strip using AOA (Age of Armour) light sets.

    https://www.deviantart.com/grandsachi/gallery

and in a time when everyone was using G3, he was using mostly G2 and the v4/m4 figures and doing it in a way you didn't notice. and nearly all of the G2 figures and their clothing are built and designed around 3DL unlike the v4 and m4 where some were/are poser based with their high gloss and high specular settings. Win Win!

@frank21 or anyone else for that matter.

I'm always learning and the process I described is a ghost light but isn't a ghost light still an emissive light but just made nearly invisible? Or am I over thinking this?

I'm curious how you would use an HDRI light to light the inside of the Odysseon station sets. The reason being there isn't a ceiling that can be eliminated to allow HDRI lighting into the closed set. the materials for this set are all over the place, being that the texture for many of the pipe junctions are also the same material for the ceiling. removal of those textures causes gaps in the pipes, doors and wall pieces.

So what this all boils down to use ghostlights/hidden emmissives is a given but how does an HDRI light penetrate a solid wall or ceiling? Am I missing something that's new?

    Help a Noob out.

You can go one of two ways with those sets, the so called lights in these poser sets suck, even if lit they don't work for squat. so you have to improvise.

    1) Create a bunch of primative balls (spheres), shrink them down to around 10%. move them all over the set up around the ceiling area (this is the most time consuming part but well worth it later, and a good skill to have for lighting other older Poser sets.

For the Primatives: Set opacity to .0001 and light them up. the balls wont be seen but will give off light.

Or the other way : create a few primative planes, make them long and narrow but not rail thin. line up up along the ceiling and spread out: then repeat the above idea. Set opacity to .0001 and light them up.

by light them up I mean set them up like this.
emission color to white (1.00 1.00 and 1.00) Emission temperature set to 6550 (pure white). Set Luminance Units to Kcd/m^2 and the Luminance to 100 and work the luminance level up to say 300 and go from there.

Why use white? you can use Gimp or Photoshop later on and tint the scene as needed for that ideal coloring. Yellow/orange for a warm comforting scene. Blueish for scifi. All of Hollywood does that and they do it on purpose do draw the viewer in.

    I hope that all works.
And we're all noobs so don't sweat it.

If daz made all of the artists use the same folder set up it would be a lot easier but there is no standard to anything and then they act all surprised when someone complains about it. I use a custom folder setup that I have to manually go in and set up each time I start using a new version of studio. They try to make DIM and dazcentral so easy to use that they completely take away any ability to customize or streamline away from you.
The way my folders are set up makes things so simple, in clothing I have folders for Fantasy, Lingerie, swimsuits, bodysuits, sci-fi, shoes, dresses and so on. Then once I have unzipped everything I put everything in the appropriate folders before I use them, sure it takes a bit longer but I never have to hunt for anything I know where it will be if I need it.

You should be able to go to Studio 4.X Pro in your download section and that will be the most current version of studio you can download. I refuse to use DIM or the new dazconnect because it ruins my custom folder setup. I manually download everything to a folder and then remove all the vanity folders and junk before I transfer the items to my main directory. So much easier to go to the shoes folder and find a set of heels instead of trying to remember which vendor made them and searching 30 minutes for them.

I don't know about the suit itself, but the belts are part of this set.

Well I even tried to copy and paste both the display name and user name without any luck. I have reached out to both the person and the mods for help here. Thanks for the help in figuring the issue out.

The username and display name are the same so I guess I need to get a hold of a mod.

I tried to look up the persons username and it is the same as the display name unless I am looking in the wrong place.I guess I will send them a note and see if their user name is the same as their display name. Thanks for the help.

The step that's missing is you first need to take your V4 skin and save it as a DUF. aka Save As Material and place it under Presets\Material or where ever you want to put it, just remember where you put it.

Now, load your V8. follow Tomsk's steps but for the part where you load the skin to the figure. At this point go to where ever you saved the Material setting of the v4 figure. it will load but look like a mess. Now go back to Tomsk's steps and Apply UV. This will close out and set up v8 to wear the v4 skin.
