Heh Heh.. Nice to see people bitching about SW.. But at least y'all didn't/don't have to suffer through a set of abominable travesties of idiotic ice cream parlor remakes in a parallel universe, led by some dumb punk fresh out of college with no more experience on how to command a starship than a Denebian slime devil.
April 12, 2018 at 1:11 AM #566760Aliens 2 excellent
Terminator 2 excellent
Star Trek 2 excellent
Reanimator 2 excellent
Evil Dead 2 excellent
Predator 2 ok
Star Wars 5 excellent
Remake of The Thing (80) excellentProbably a lot more but it is possible to make a better movie or a movie as good as the original while still being faithful to the original.

@D0gg0d - You are awesome, I really mean that, because I was thinking the same thing a little bit ago and probably should have clarified my point. I mean more recently, referring back to the directors having their heads up their asses. Looking over your list and it's accurate as hell, though I hated evil dead, but it's definitely a dude movie (and I realize most of the others on the list really are too but the evil dead series has cult appeal.) But take a close look at many of the films in that list. Wrath of Khan and Aliens were superior to the originals, mostly due to budgets but also because the creators were forced to take a step back and sit in a forced consulting role. And then there's Terminator 2, which I honestly believe was a fluke. The Terminator was a good movie, but that was it. It wasn't great, nor ground breaking, and a story that was quite fragile. But Terminator 2 was and still is the star of the franchise. It expanded on the shaky story without breaking it, and had a rocking soundtrack and some fantastic special effects and after it, the entire franchise fell apart. And Cameron is another director with his head up his ass, look what he's doing right now. He really has nothing else going on but Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5. Seriously, what the hell is that? Avatar was a good movie but by no means needed a sequel, much less 4 of them two of which are in active filming and the other two in pre-production ready to start filming as soon as 2 and 3 finish. By no means do I expect quality work from a director that has his "vision" for a franchise based on a very standalone movie spread out over 4 sequels and continuing to employ Sam Worthington whose only done one movie and one video game that didn't fall to shit around him and their successes were in spite of him, not because of him.

Although I admit I'm a little saddened by another adult referring to Empire as Star Wars 5. 😀
April 12, 2018 at 7:50 AM #567028@ladyburger I refer to it so much as SW2 casually then have to explain it to people that dont know what I mean and its just easier for me to not get it mixed up with the awfulness that was the clones. Guess saying Empire would be smarter.
I'll take an example for firearms. Colt, Glock and Sig all make good pistols. Colt has been making the 1911 well 1911. Glock since somewhere around 1982. Sig p220/226 around 1975-1984.
All these models have had almost no change. All they did was add a different finish and maybe night sights. They Ride this into the ground. Recently Sig has stepped up and re-invented the wheel a bit and stole a military contract away from Glock.
Disney as well as other has seen the public will pay cash for anything. Most (not all) movie even if they suck will make a profit. With theater, dvd and merchandising they are covered.
Remaking a classic like The Wizard of Oz? Remaking Star Wars? Ghost Busters? Doomed to fail unless you bring your A-game or are just lucky enough fans will buy whatever crap you shovel.
The trailers from Ghostbusters Sucked so Ive yet to watch it and have no desire to taint the original in my mind.
Evil Dead isnt what I would call a good movie for everyone. Its Like the Rocky Horror Show. I think thats great but, most people I know would think Im a nut for liking it. I have a very broad taste in movies and for me to hate a movie IMHO means it absolutely sucks.
