Oh, no. Don't let @locololo weigh in.
He's not the biggest Star Wars fan. He's Bizarro Star Wars Fan.
Yup - Akira Kurosawa. Yup - Studio Ghibli. It's not so much that he's against Star Wars. It's just that he saw The Seven Samuri BEFORE he even heard of Geo Luckazz.
As soon as Star Wars came out he claims he cried foul but no one heard. I wouldn't say he is an Anti-Star Wars fan because he's literally seen each episode 3 or 4 times. That's including the cartoon versions that the movie industry won't even try to make in to a movie version. Despite the advances in CGI. We may never see any of those precious Studio Ghibli cartoons of his in live action because of other reasons. But eventually people will stop going to see the Disney Versions of movies. I mention copyleft yesterday. Do you know Mickey Mouse is still protected from being copied? It's 2018; Every song or movie published in 1923 should expire come January 1, 2019. Don't think for a moment their holy cow will be on public domain. But I'll agree with him that the problem with cinematic entertainment isn't like it was before - Holy-Woody. The problem is they've come out of their closet and became Harlot-Would-He. The Hugh Hefner effect has a stronghold down there. All that candy and they are all diabetic. What is an old rich perv to do?

There is nothing new under the sun. If I were to personally make a movie right now, I could not make one without drawing from past movie and book experience. I like "some" of quentin tarantino work and you can see where he gets inspiration from. Kill Bill is great even thought its a but of a stretch. Lucas i think said someplace he ripped off samurai movies. but he change them enough to be his own. Not many lightsaber force using jedi piloting xwing in old b+w movies.

Ive watch tons of movies like most of you and its easy to see where others get ripped off. Remember "bullet time".

Movie usually are made for fans not critics.
Rotten tomatoes scores like 90/45. Any movie where more than half the fan base hates it, cant be good.

Good ol' Quint. He get's it @d0gg0d. He understands the whole point of entertainment. Not the critics - the fanatics. Are we not entertained? Absolutely, with his genre.
He's Steven Chow without the cute mermaids. Oh, @Arthurgarcia I should apologize now before you mention it. "I'm sorry that your grandchildrens' favorite Star Wars movies all begin - Star Wars Clone Wars..." Do you think that old term "Out of the mouth of Babes" still holds water? Even your grand children haven't yet fallen victim to Disneyfied crap or colorful little ponies that have absolutely nothing but color and the ability to annoyingly scream every other word. Everyone else here sees the Star Wars movies not only as entertainment but a franchise off a franchise. They not only see the commercialization of the movie and merchandise but the fact that social media is being flooded with conversation about how bad or how not good their franchise is. Am I talking "loco" again? they have derailed the blogs to discuss their ideas and to sway our focus to their thought- Star Wars. and I'll leave it at that.

I didn't 'hate' The Last Jedi but I was really disappointed in it. I didn't feel any connection with any character in the whole film and thought the handling of the small instances they had with "the Force" was clumsy at best. The dialogue seemed like it was ripped straight from the pages of the original Trilogy, at some points seeming like others have noted, like a parody. The story-line was contrived to engineer character epiphanies to the audience but I didn't feel anything for any characters so it left me cold.

I gave "The Force Awakens" a pass when it came out because it was Disney's first SW film out of the gate and they needed to reassure fans and get the story going with some comfort. It wasn't a bad film but was more than a little familiar, I still had some hopes though. "Rogue One" came out and have to say I really enjoyed it, especially it's dovetail approach to marry it up with "A New Hope". Then "The Last Jedi" came out and people were slating it so I tried to put it out of my mind and go watch it with an open mind. With no real expectation and an understanding that it might be shit I watched it looking out for things and I picked up so much spiel that was obviously planted to hark back to previous films. I mean I understand it wanted to keep itself grounded with it's history but it made the whole movie feel more tongue in cheek than an homage.

I can only hope that they learn from this and improve the film franchise that is their biggest earner. They've certainly got motivation to do so.

I think we're focusing on SW a bit too much here... let's review some atrocious destructions of classic films, with remakes and reboots... Ghostbutsers, Star Trek, Total Recall, Blade Runner, The Time Machine, The Mummy, Jurassic Park, just to name the ones I can remember the easiest...
SW, is just the peak of an iceberg that's been building up for quite some time now.

Hollywood ran out of idea's a long time ago hence the remakes.

I watched all the New Star Wars movies at the movie houses and wasn't that disappointed overall. Let's just say they were an improvement on the last movies
which IMO were pretty dire. Still can't beat the original movies though.
Perhaps I'm just getting old and like seeing the Death Star swinging on a string.

New Bladerunner: Wrong actor to take the lead role and the story was lame.
Apart form that the futuristic environment looked good on camera.

    New Star Trek: Passed
    New Total Recall: Passed
And passed on many remakes of the classics.

The new Aliens suck, Airbender destroyed my hopes of The Last Avatar RL movies, Maleficent was a disappointment, remaking all the Disney cartoons in RL will probaly be underwhelming also.

Best not to get me started on Transformers

Havent sern new Red Dawn or Robocop reboot.
    I expect they suck also.

Prometheus could have been a good movie :/

It's a shame small Indy producers rarely get noticed these days since the digital age took off. Browsing the movies in the video store was a gas back in the day with so much to choose from.

    @D0GG0D

I forgot about that movie, thanks for reminding me.
Disturbing is putting it mildly, I'd still watch it again though.

I like Sam Rockwell, Thought he was great in Three Billboards, another film I'd watch again. All in all a good cast - well written and acted IMO.

I'd also point you out at "The whisperer in the dark"... a pretty well stylized, pseudo-noir version of H.P. Lovecraft's story. Black and white mastering, with the right dose of cheap effect, to actually convince anyone not paying much attention, that it was indeed an early 40s film

    From Beyond was ok.
    ReAnimator was good.

Mouth is one of my favorites and even though there isnt a ton of CG and explosions. Kinda weird how people can make a good movie without these.

The problem with the majority of remakes and sequels are the goddamned fans. Take Ghostbusters for example, the remake on its own was a hokey comedy that was quite literally a spoof of itself which if anyone recalls was the same friggen premise of the original and the terrible sequel it spawned. It was designed and intended that way. But the very moment it was announced it was an all female cast people lost their damned minds. Before the first frame was filmed, before the budget was even finalized, fans of the original ghostbusters damned the new movie into oblivion simply because they changed some details that weren't even actually important considering the overall premise. It had it's entertaining moments and was decent for what it was. It has been this way which the majority of the sequels. The vast majority of fans of originals go into sequels or remakes expecting more of the same but if the remakes and sequels are too ground breaking or too much of anything it diminishes the power of the originals as well and that's another things fans can't accept. Total recall is an example of that too, The remake was not a terrible movie and fans are split on whether or not it was good while forgetting that the original movie was a campy sci-fi/action movie that was designed to cater to an array of audiences.
