It had it's flaws, but overall was an acceptable movie. The reality is, the sooner we come to terms with the fact that /WE/ are not and never have been the target audience for Disney movies, and the fact that Star Wars is no longer geared towards us the better off we will all be. My boys enjoyed all of the new movies so far. The guy in the video totally comes off that despite his words went into the movie predisposed to disliking it and ready to nit pick every minute detail at every turn. I vehemently disagree that this movie was worse than the prequels (which while terrible, were in fact the last movies that targeted the older fans such as ourselves.) And the fact that the narrator praised the acting abilities of Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher over all the other actors in the movie is just terrible. Neither of them have ever been good actors. Mark Hamil is a great voice actor but he still looks as awkward on screen as he ever has.
April 9, 2018 at 7:31 PM #564254Blade Runner 2 sucked as well. Fast cars, explosion and cg doesnt make a good movie. Storyline and good actors fo imho. Also making sense helps.
one reason ive not been to the theater in awhile.
April 9, 2018 at 7:58 PM #564282Since this has been mentioned... I'll bypass the fact that both "The Force Awakens" and, even more "The Last Jedi" made the infamous prequels appear as quality staples in comparison.
But, and this isn't just a Star Wars problem, it's a general problem with the film industry the past decade or so, am I the only one that sees a clear downwards slope in the overall quality of films, the past 15 years? Could well be far before that, but it's when I noticed it. Sure, we have quality films launching, with great acting, flawless FX, masterful soundtracks, and absorbing storylines, yes, but the percentage of universally accepted films, drops every year.
We went from some 10-15 GOOD films per year, to, if we're lucky... 5. Sometimes 2 or 3, really good films. And, what we certainly lost, are the bulk of "good enough" films, that made for over 50% of theater playlists every year. Sure, the number of produced films didn't drop alarmingly down, but how many flop badly every year?April 9, 2018 at 8:08 PM #564288I believe they can put out good stuff for both.
I think "Wreck it Ralph: was great and for a wide age group.
The guy nails it when he implies that if we keep settling on crap and feeding it money, it will keep kicking out trash.

They could put out good stuff for both, but they don't. We're merely the wallets that fund their target audience. I'm okay with that as long as the experience is enjoyable for my kids. As far as settling on crap, nobody wants that, but I think most of the big major directors are stuck up their own asses and their personal pet projects and all of them have them right now and for the most part, they are probably going to be terrible because they are pet projects and will get treated with kid gloves by all involved even if the directors vision is good but execution is poorly formed. Lucas, Scott, Spielberg, Abrams, et al, they are all terribly guilty of this and they really don't care about our opinions of their projects or destroying our favorites. They will continue to focus on pet projects and sequels of movies that once changed the industry even when those sequels will pale in comparison unless they invent something ground breaking along the way ala Star Wars, Alien, Jurassic Park etc.
April 10, 2018 at 12:10 AM #564504Yeah I called it the Lucas syndrome. Peter Jackson caught it after LotR. IMHO he did a great job with LotR then it went to his head and he tried to re-invent the wheel and Fked up the Hobbit. Lucas should have stuck to when he was fresh and young with new ideas but instead he followed the industry and we got Jar jar. These guys come out with fresh and inventive ideas and eventually fizzle out and fall into the comfort zone.
I tend to think thats why certain TV series limit there runs. I an/was a fan of "The Young Ones" and " League of Gentlemen" both had short runs. I was a fan of Star Trek also but with so many episodes it started to get stale. I did not think this would ever happen to Star Wars. ATM Im re-watching Empire Strike Back to try and wash this crap out of my brain.

April 10, 2018 at 3:10 AM #564656So youre saying you like the Mary Sue and your favorite character is Jar Jar.
Ive got no issues with what you like. Im sure youll enjoy the rest of what will be loads of mouse crap spewing from Mickeys rectum.
Even if you ignore ALL of what people expected from the new movies, you cant say they are good. When the first scene of E-8 reminds me of dialog I would expect from Space Balls 2 its time to leave. Space Balls was a better movie btw.
ATM there are 8 movies, would the last 2 be in your top 3? My observation of the meaning of "fanboy" is someone that thinks everything is great so long as it has the certified logo stamped on it. Every movie since the original 3 has been a step backwards.
Even the actors know it.

Clearly you and I are on the same page here. I felt this film was a parody too. But it was so much more than that; in a bad way. It was like the movie hated itself.
There even seemed, to me anyway, to be a short sequence in the film that was nothing more than a 'place holder'. They either never got around to creating a proper sequence to put in it's place, or they "oops" forgot it before the movie when out for distribution.
But, have you seen "Rogue One"? I did enjoy that film very much. I am hoping the next Star Wars movie will be decent. The "episode" Stars Wars films I fear are doomed.

@d0gg0d I can't say I disagree with all the points, but it was bound to happen with the Star Wars franchise. Lucas has been shitting on and changing Star Wars since the first movie came out. Until the laughable Special Edition came out, many of the changes weren't even noticed by many over the years. But then he decided to shit on it again and release the special edition and it was then that we as fans were doomed to endure what was to come. I enjoyed many elements of the prequels myself, but Lucas again shit on his franchise and the fans by ignoring everything written about the franchise over several decades after he said he wasn't going to and gave us the misadventures of the alien idiot and the annoying child. But since Disney bought up the rights, I expected ALOT of changes, and wasn't disappointed there. They have, for all intents and purposes, Disney-fied the Star Wars franchise. And in true Disney fashion, they camped it up, added some absolutely pointless dialog and included Luke and Leia only to kill them off as all good and wholesome Disney cartoons must have the death of a parent figure. In this one it was Luke, the next will almost certainly have Leia die.
TL;DR, I enjoyed the Last Jedi was a Disney-fied version of the franchise. Mel Brooks is one of my all time favorite writer/directors, so I didn't mind the camp so much. My 2 teen boys enjoyed the hell out of it, so it was certainly worth the two bucks. 😀 And I totally blame Lucas for not caring enough to leave his movies alone and thus starting what has become a fan civil war. 😀
April 10, 2018 at 5:01 AM #564711I watched last Jedi literally like 10 times. Its been looping while I set up my SW scene .
Most reviews I see on Amazon are" my kids liked it" But they dont say they liked it.If you watch E-7 it rips off E-4 almost page for page.
Watching E-8 is about like watching E-5 backwards. Salt instead of snow.If Disney releases the originals unmolested on bluray for $100 Ill buy it on the spot.
I really dont mind some changes. I looked forward to something a little different. But what they have done is re-written the entire way the force is used. made every old character useless and weak. So far theyve done pretty good with Marvel. A few speed bumps but nothing awful. But what theyve done to SW is shameful.
Imagine how Trekkies would feel if Spock made out with Kirk in the Holo deck.
LotR fans had an Angel instead of a Balrog.
The Doctor turned into a woman... Oh wait they did that.April 10, 2018 at 8:30 AM #564848I wanted to avoid the Mary Sue part... which, despite existing as a valid issue with the film, and the film industry in whole, isn't my problem with Star Wars right now. Or with the film industry in total for this matter.
It's the sloppy way of storytelling, the complete absense of context in a charater's actions, the non existing background that was meant to drive the protagonist, if it existed... and the last 2 SW films are the epitome ofall of the above.April 10, 2018 at 1:01 PM #565048May I weigh in? Too bad.
Not one of you even mention the fact that Lucas himself says where he got his inspiration for his whole franchise of Star Wars.
If the tables were turned we’d have plagiarism lawsuits to last three lifetimes if Akira Kurosawa stole off him and/or Disneys ideas. If they wanted to stick to the theme that franchise should have kept they only needed to watch more Akira Kurosawa Movies. Now they bought out Studio Ghibli and you see the direction they’re taking that franchise. Yan hits the nail on the head as to what is wrong with the movie industry- it’s Hollywood and Disney. They demand and demand newer or fresher ideas but like that rockerfellar foellow that just passed away despite 14 (that we know of ) heart transplants from younger persons: it ain’t going to change the fact that the decrepit old corpse will be all you get out of it.April 10, 2018 at 1:49 PM #565083The problem with all the other Star Wars movies is they will never live up to the high bar set by the original 3 movies. Like most sequels they just start beating the franchise to death, not too often that you can revisit a movie and please the fans from the originals.
I should say OG Star Wars Fan HERE watched them in the movie theaters when they came Out 🙂 -
