This is a bullshit scare tactic.
I've sent plenty of emails to Disney and Marvel over #DORK's models. We need to ramp this up and flood them with copyright notices.
EVERYBODY should be sending emails to the real owners of these models.That was pretty much my first thought - scare tactic. I haven't looked at my account once I saw the message - as I logged out afterwards.
Not sure what I would do if they decided on suing me - but I'll face that if it actually happens.
I read torrentFreak every morning ( https://torrentfreak.com/ ) and have seen lots of these scare tactics used by greedy and short sighted sites. The porn company, Strike3 Media is famous for sending out notices that are nothing short of extortion based on nebulous links. The courts are tired of being used as a cash machine and are telling them to fuck off. The few folks who have fought back have won and seen Strike3's cases thrown out.
RH is pulling the same shit. Some small, fly-by-night business that itself sells stolen content, probably won't think about going to court because it knows that it's own sleazy business practices will be thrown back in it's face.
That said, wait a few weeks or months before sharing anything from there. This allows your purchase to get lost in the many other purchases made, if it sells that much. It also lets the artist make the bulk of his/her sales before the item gets into the wild.There's several excellent artists there and I've suggested to them in the past that they might look at another vendor's site in case RH goes under. It would be nice if there was a private site that others could use. There's a couple, but they cater to poser stuff.
Agreed. HumanXYStudio (I think that's his handle?) has some great stuff, even if it is pricey. It's him and like seven other people there that is keeping that site running.
OTOH, there is a lot of stuff there that is definitely Amateur Hour - they'd make passable freebies, but crap-tier sale merch.
i doubt they will sue anyone to be honest, for it to happand they would need to sue all others that made the same thing as we saw there is alot of people banned at around the same time.

EDIT: wich is quite funny to me that a copyright enfrigment coming from a site that lets people sell copyrighted characters and textures on theyr site, and let them sell characters with textures from sellers took from daz, like i saw some people selling morphs with textures taken from characters sold on daz that are not merchant rescourses
Of course its just scare tactics. It ALWAYS is. Despite the fake "grandma busted for napster" BS from twenty years ago that was not a real person, when you look deeper to see who the person really was you discover NOBODY seems to know who that person was in real life, and if there was someone that claims to know them, nobody seems to know THAT person. Dig 3 or more levels deep and you see their scare tactics story unravel.
Heres the truth: costs shit-tons of $$$$ to house, feed and monitor prison inmates.
If they are gonna burn through hundreds of thousands of dollars to house someone for an item that cost less than $20 then the jokes really on them, isnt it
Now, big-time pirates with the large servers loaded with all kinds of stuff, they might go after THEM sometimes, but even that is pretty rare, but that does happen for sure
Copyright violation is strictly a civil thing, not criminal (UNLESS YOU MAKE MONEY FROM IT!). Also, simply downloading is not actionable in court - you have to be caught uploading the stuff (torrents also count if you seed or allow an upload rate).
Typically, you get a lawyer that contacts you, claim you downloaded something, goes on and on about how much it will cost to defend yourself in court, then offers to make a 'settlement' for $4000 - $5000 or so - enough to hurt bad, but still within reach of the typical middle-class family. It's more than enough to scare the typical normie into paying up even if they never shared a single file, thinking their kid did it or whatever.
Nowadays, you can tell them to piss off and do so safely. A lot of states (US) and provinces (elsewhere) have already weighed in that a simple IP address capture is not sufficient proof of anything in a copyright lawsuit, and that's all most of those legal scammers have. So, most of that garbage went away when the rulings came out that you have to have more than an IP address (especially in the age of wide VPN usage). You see, that's all most of these bums have, so they drop the attempt real fast if they get a slight hint that that you know what you're talking about.
@d0gg0d, what happened to you a while ago? You got banned from RH or you got sued for copyright?

If all we are talking about is a ban and a notice, we have no problem.

I would seriously like to hear from someone who's life is in ruin because he
bought and uploaded something from RenederHub.
Otherwise Renderhub, by putting a time stamp in a file is creating paranoia.It is rattling the cage, get all the chickens in an upheaval so they do not lay eggs 😉
I live in Europe, and we have an institute that protects music and video rights. When MP3 was booming, they threatened to. Only case I recall is for a person who kind of hade his own server and had thousands of music files for upload. I can not recall how severe the punishment was so it could not have been much.
SO in theory it is possible to come after people, but it would be costly for both sides, and(at least over here) the judicial system is clogged up with " serious" crimes....
But better safe then sorry.
Let's all just ignore those sites for say a moth, sales drop, so does the attitude....
