got banned from workupload....
December 16, 2023 at 1:25 PM #2048606I was banned as well.
December 16, 2023 at 3:07 PM #2048621If this continues they won't have any customers left!
it's kinda true, nowadays every creator uploads on different platforms. If I'm banned I'll just not even bother making a new account, I'll just either buy somewhere else or not buy at all lol
December 16, 2023 at 10:54 PM #2048655Just logged in there to check, and I got the same notice as @melonlord
December 17, 2023 at 11:44 AM #2048716As far as I can understand...
They are just checking the cookies = if you are a member of this site you have a login cookie = you are banned on their site.
It´s the only connection I can see.
December 17, 2023 at 12:02 PM #2048724Which would mean that they are reading out cookies they are not supposed to read out, as in you have never given them the permission to do it. Also I think some browsers will prevent it.
December 17, 2023 at 12:38 PM #2048732Firefox has excellent security but to be sure, folks should use the Brave browser. It absolutely, positively prevents cross-site snooping.
December 18, 2023 at 12:27 AM #2048784Ha ha, I'm not banned.... yet. Brave has worked great for me but it can be a bit glitchy since my 4070 upgrade. I see getting banned from sites as just an occupational hazard for pirates 😊.
December 18, 2023 at 3:21 PM #2048859Lads, check any asset file that could have EXIF section / metadata. Ages ago, ppl like WPMUDEV tag every image within products on DL with user ID/account id and timestamp of DL/purchase. could even be encrypted.
One way to know for sure, is find 2 ppl that own/bought same item, then compare against each other byte for byte.. Im quite clued up with that sort of thing, so feel free to hit me up, with samples and will see what i can pick up. (there are so maby other sneaky methods, but i for sure suspect this was likely the cause, if victims had no other way of being linked (ie username/email)
December 18, 2023 at 4:51 PM #2048875@Bonjonovi, Interesting that you should bring that up. This was discussed here a few years ago and someone mentioned that it would be trivial to write a script that would add a 'non printing' character into a text file and tie that to a particular download (customer). I recently mentioned this to someone in our Discord server but they seemed to feel that it would be more trouble than it was worth. I feel that we should concentrate on the simple solution first since it seems more likely that the vendors will also do the same...just read people's cookies.
December 19, 2023 at 1:03 PM #2048986Then it really sounds like they are reading out cookies they are not supposed to read out, meaning they violate privacy rights.
December 19, 2023 at 1:14 PM #2048988They are really going over the top & shooting themselves in the foot with this 'Guilty until proven innocent' stance.
I think it will prove to be very counter productive.
People won't have sufficient trust buying from them, if they feel they can randomly lose access to what they have bought.December 19, 2023 at 1:38 PM #2048992@onkelshield - that depends - reading other sites' cookies absolutely violates GDPR, but US laws don't IIRC prohibit anyone from doing that.
Your best bet to avoid cross-site cookie snooping is to use two different browsers - one for your day-to-day, one for the arr! factor. Think of it as the ultimate Gray-Man tactic. It gives you the added bonus of (partially) protecting your more sensitive stuff like your banking and social media accounts, in case you come across a malicious link or something similar.
December 19, 2023 at 2:07 PM #2048996I don't think they are reading the cookies, I'm still using Chrome with a Rhub and ZGfx login and my current account didn't get forwarded to the FBI 😀
December 19, 2023 at 2:19 PM #2049000Cookies are a red herring, possibly another embedded identifier. I don't think Renderhub is advanced enough to have an individually assigned id applied to the product that would identify the account that purchased each product, Daz maybe but not the etsy of 3d modeling like renderhub. a while back I was looking at the hexidecimal of rendered images to see if DS placed any kind of ID that would identify the user account of the installed studio used to generate the image or the serial of the gpu etc. More than likely the sales of some products are of such low volume that they can extrapolate the account that bought the product within a certain time frame of when it showed up in the wild.
