On the one hand, I liked the detail and realism of the G9 skin. On the other hand, I see that for the sake of realism, the G9f figure has become even less attractive to me. If V4 was a young girl of 18, G3 (my favorite geometry of the figure) looked 20 years old, then G8 is a 30-year-old woman. The G9f looks like a 40-year-old, albeit in good shape. What's next? G10 is a 50-year-old granny?

November 3, 2022 at 12:36 PM #1885516I think that the other generations of models will fall to the way side as we all have seen in the past , when a new generation comes out most of the artists turn to that and stop making stuff for the older versions , I give it a year and you will see there will be less and less G8/G8.1 stuff coming out.
I'm not saying it's a good way to practice business but that's Daz for ya.
I preferred the G3 G8 combo myself where most stuff is more or less compatible out of the box. 🙂
November 3, 2022 at 12:39 PM #1885518Well, if enough folk don't go all in for it, perhaps will will get an echo of the transient Genesis M5 V5 era, and it will disappear quite quickly & be replaced with something generally regarded as more appealing.

November 3, 2022 at 4:24 PM #1885599Well, they have dropped the ball on that too, with the lack of mesh density in the breast area!

November 3, 2022 at 5:15 PM #1885608I think that like Genesis 1's failure, we should be waiting for Genesis 10.
November 3, 2022 at 5:52 PM #1885612I too am very comfortable with G8.1 base. There is plenty of support & it is a mature product now. I do hope merchants will continue to support it until we get Gen 10.
You may have better luck with Exnem's skins.
IMO they always look pretty good.
🙂
November 3, 2022 at 6:36 PM #1885622Decent male skins are hard to come by.
Tempesta3D perhaps?
November 4, 2022 at 4:09 AM #1885707So hard to come by that I generally use female skins on my male characters... obviously the textures need some refinement, burnt-in shadows under the breasts, nipple adjustments etc. Getting the gen texture to match is difficult but doable.
As for G9, thanks but no thanks.November 4, 2022 at 8:45 AM #1885768If you are prepared to convert older skins, how about Phoenix1966?
🙂
November 4, 2022 at 1:59 PM #1885889OP: I got the chance to play around a bit with G9... I have enough stuff to actually get things done.
So far, I love the speed with which it loads, and I intend to keep it that way by doing custom stuff in G8, but moving the morph to G9 (using the DS Transfer Utility). I may not have to though, since I was able to (very) quickly get up as test character that was actually superior to a huge amount of previous efforts.
(I'll still d/load new characters, but I'm only keeping the skins and won't install the morphs, unless there's something sufficiently unique or sci-fi-ish about the morphs.)
The facial rigging/dials? I really like it. G8.1 seemed incomplete in a way, in spite of being promising. G9's face dial set actually takes it there.
G8 clothing autofits, but any hair longer than the jawline acts wonky, and tries to mold itself around the neck, wrecking any hairstyles (and sometimes losing morph dials). The fix is easy enough: don't conform, just parent to the head and use morphs/scale/smoothing to make it fit. I do that now with the toon figures because of their head shapes and proportions.
The only things I really want now (because I'm lazy and time doesn't permit) are...
* a Batch pose converter script. What's out there now is fine I guess, but extra steps get in the way of the flow. I prefer to pre-make the converted poses.
* a working vagina kit for the grownup dolls.
* something to convert textures up grom G3/G8/G8.1 (this will likely end up being an external program like Blacksmith, TextureConverter, etc.)
After that, I'll have enough to really get started.
November 4, 2022 at 3:06 PM #1885926I hope it works out for you. 🙂
November 4, 2022 at 9:52 PM #1886063@ehrez Absolutely Agrees u just tooked the words out of my mouth, FREAKING THANK YOU! 👏
Also like u said “Instead of releasing different generations that have almost no difference“, they should had worked on improving the software performance and maked more Optimized with high end right and low one’s and AT LEAST give the people with balanced rig budget a chance to enjoy customizing their 3d characters and enjoy it without daz begin Pain in the arse!November 5, 2022 at 6:36 AM #1886181To those who rejoice that the new generation "loads quickly" is dedicated to:

"....Also I ran into some interesting issues, mainly the huge difference between the lower body of the Victoria 9 and the lower body of the Genesis 9, and the fact that the V9 comes with thighs bending correction morphs.
These resulted in me having to make additional morphs for NGG9. If the main characters released by daz in the future are all similar to V9, this will be a headache."
*shrugs*
with each new figure - a bunch of additional jcm ...... hmm ...November 5, 2022 at 8:49 AM #1886196If I haven't yet made my opinion about Daz Corp and their new G9 abundantly clear, then this should clear things up. Honestly I don't think Daz has anywhere enough staff to work on developing anything new, be it DS5 or what we've seen with G9. Daz has about 100 staff and take away the execs & sales people their investment in development is minimal at best because a lot of users will just accept whatever is thrown at them
November 5, 2022 at 9:23 AM #1886214That is exactly why I will not be buying any G9 specific content.
