Applying (G8) Iray materials to a Linday hair prop - you just loaded on a G3 character - fail,
someone know why this is an issue? Same goes for most G8 cloth stuff you load on a G3 character - it return the same message: An error occured while reading the file, see the log for more details. (I read the log, but none of the information gives sense to me))

Check that the prop is selected in the scene tab before applying materials.

I think I remember (it's been a long time) that some materials won't apply if a hair isn't parented to a character. Or in your case maybe a different character for which it was intended. Just a wild guess.

Materials that don't apply are usually H. Materials (Hierarchical), since they have to be applied in a very precise way and cannot be applied just anywhere.

@Legolas18 Good explanation - but, can't any "script" just be changed - to just apply the value, to what-ever material, "when clicked on" do you know? I can't find out what exactly controls "what" in a script file. If not, Merry Christmas to you - and all. Cheers.

So I guess you tried putting the hair on G8 and applying the material and still not working?

@Frank21 It works on hair made for G8!, but - if the wig is loaded on a G3 character it does not.

What if you apply it while on 8 then autofit or parent it to 3? Can you select 8 uvs on 3?

That's what I said in my original comment. Load G8 and fit the hair, load the materials, unparent it and deleted G8, and then the load G3 and fit the hair.

But - no. Btw that trick can be used with the brilliant "Nylon Pantyhose" by iWave also for G8.
Sure it is a workaround, now parenting it to a G3 character, but not an optimal solution.

Those iray shaders for a hair/prop, gotta work, for the hair it's made for, no matter if it's a hair prop that "sits" on a G3, or G8, (no questions asked IMHO).

There must be a way to make this work.

Click the hair then hold control while clicking the material. A little menu will pop up. Choose "selected". No idea if it works. Read it in a forum.

What prop is this, though? H.material will not apply by just double clicking the icon, you have to use a workaround.

No idea. It Just popped up in a search.

I've had a few encounters with it and if the item doesn't work after a few attempts I delete it.

ATM I've deleted my library and am rebuilding it so I can't do much investigating
