Hi. I am interested in using this in Daz Studio:
https://zonegfx.com/kitbash3d-manhattan/I know it has an OBJ file, but when I import this person's OBJ cities they come without the possibility of being fully textured (as they are all one shader in the surface tab). Anyone know how I can use this in daz studio with textures?
March 15, 2022 at 1:25 PM #1785170I can't speak for anyone else, as people will likely have their own preferred method. But for me, I use the Blender versions, and it is really straightforward. Even with no knowledge of Blender, like myself.
Make sure the "KB3D_MidManhattan-Native" file and the "KB3DTextures" folder are in the same folder. Next, double click the "KB3D_MidManhattan-Native" file, this will open Blender and load the whole set in a few seconds.
You now need to choose which asset you want to import into DAZ, so delete the rest. Either using the scene tab or dragging the mouse to select multiple items to delete in one go. Once you have the set you want to use, do File>Export and export as a Collada .dae file. By default, Blender will save the textures into the same directory where you choose to export the .dae to.
Import this into DAZ, and that is it. You may need to adjust the glossiness surface on some assets, and change the glass.
March 16, 2022 at 12:28 AM #1785364While it's in Blender it's a good idea to check face groups (material groups) and see if you want to create any additional, in case you want to do more detailed material replacement in Daz.
You can do it Daz, but it's a bit of a pain.March 16, 2022 at 8:06 AM #1785400Yeh Collada (dae) I've found the best option for exporting from Blender over fbx. You don't get the explosion problem that fbx often has and the textures remain correctly associated. As for .obj it's pretty useless for anything other than stuff with just one map like a statue and such.
March 16, 2022 at 8:48 AM #1785408Thank you all for the advices. I will attempt to do this today with .dae as mentioned!
March 18, 2022 at 12:02 PM #1785916@eidersson When I try to import it back into Daz it doesn't seem to work at all.
The log file shows this:

2022-03-18 14:01:34.706 Building Scene...March 18, 2022 at 1:14 PM #1785935@ace94 I'm sorry, but I am clueless as to why this would happen.
I have made no changes whatsoever in Blender, all settings are default. I export the .dae file and then import it into DAZ. I've never had the issue you are experiencing, even with older versions of both software.
March 18, 2022 at 2:09 PM #1785946@eidersson So apparently the issue was that the objects are way too big for my PC to handle so have to import 1 building at a time. They get imported without the textures though. I did as you told me and had the .blend file inside the textures folder but it didn't export any of the textures.
March 18, 2022 at 2:14 PM #1785948@ace94 Yes, the Manhattan set works fine.
The recent batch of Kitbash sets that have been posted on Zone, work exactly the same way. All have their textures included when imported into Daz as a .dae file.
Most of the older ones which were posted some time ago need their textures to be re-linked in Daz Studio, but the base meshes still export from Blender and then import into Daz without any issues.
I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but are you only trying to import one building at a time, or multiple?
March 18, 2022 at 2:15 PM #1785951@eidersson when I open the .blend file there’s no textures applied at all. What am I doing wrong?
March 18, 2022 at 2:19 PM #1785953@ace94 The “KB3D_MidManhattan-Native” file and the “KB3DTextures” folder must be in the same location for the textures to be linked in Blender.
If you have the “KB3DTextures” folder in a different place, the textures won't link.
If they are in the same "folder", even when you open the .blend file, the default view in Blender still makes the assets look grey. Go to the shading view/tab, and you will be able to check the textures have loaded correctly.
March 18, 2022 at 2:32 PM #1785959@eidersson They are in the same folder and it still looks grey. When I go to shading tab it defaults to drive C: for some reason (not where the textures are located).
It doesn't automatically apply any of the textures.
March 18, 2022 at 2:40 PM #1785964Not sure what I am suppose to do:
March 18, 2022 at 3:38 PM #1785993@ace94 I've done a short video to show the process I use. It's all I can do to help, I'm afraid. I'm not knowledgeable enough to provide any useful technical support or ideas.

March 18, 2022 at 4:10 PM #1786015@eidersson omg thank you!! Your video actually helped. I had the .blend file INSIDE the texture folder and it had to be outside, lol. Thanks a lot for taking your time to help me.
