The only way that I can see purchases being a problem is if the sellers actually implement DRM of some sort and tag the files downloaded from the stores. Banning a user from the stores is obviously not taken without good proof, and "this user bought my item a week before it went up on sharing sites" isn't close to being good evidence, unless you do something like buy their entire catalog and leak it right away.
In any case, it appears that you are free to continue using the forums the old way, if that ends up being problematic for you for any reason. From the responses in this thread however, it appears that most people will prefer the requests system and most of the request bounty will end up in the requests system instead.
March 22, 2023 at 2:08 PM #1944882Pretty sure you need the points in the first place to put them into the escrow, so that's almost certainly a non-issue.
March 22, 2023 at 1:12 PM #1944853yeah, that sounds like a great workflow, I don't see any issues with it. Hope to see this on the site soon 😀
March 22, 2023 at 12:04 PM #1944804I've used a number of bunkr links recently, they are fine with adblock as mentioned, and the actual download is quick and painless. I don't think there's anything wrong with that filehost.
March 22, 2023 at 12:01 PM #1944801@queensknight Thanks for developing the addon! I feel that discussion of the addon should be considered on topic, since it discusses a potential solution to the problem that I encountered.
I think the implementation used on a number of torrent sites could be a good reference, since that system is very well refined and understood. A request can be created by any user, who immediately places the points they are offering into an official escrow. Other users may then vote on that request with points, which increases the amount of points that a request filler can get by filling it. The points from each user are tracked and publicly displayed, and when a request is filled, all voters get a PM.
The request page is also searchable and displays a list of all current requests, so as to reduce the likelihood that a duplicate request is placed, as well as allowing potential fillers to sort by points and focus on the items most in demand by the community.
Of course, there could be abuse of the system, possibly by falsely filling a request. On most private torrent sites the signup is highly restricted and invite-only, so this is less of an issue, but since zonegfx has public signups that could cause some problems. In that case request filling could be restricted to members with a certain number of blog posts as well as an account age (or whatever criteria is appropriate), or alternatively a request fill needs to be manually approved by the requesters before the points are released from the escrow.
March 22, 2023 at 11:08 AM #1944784Thanks to @mxyzptlk for informing me that the issue is now resolved for the specific upload in question, the files have already been uploaded to the blog by another user recently.
It would still be nice to see if there can be some community consensus on uploading requests after they are filled.
March 20, 2023 at 1:01 PM #1943923I think the requester is following procedure, that is not in doubt. The filler was mentioned in the original request thread. I have PMed both the filler and the requester. The filler ignored my PM.
What I'm concerned about is the filler, who is apparently prohibiting the upload to be shared further, which is why it wasn't posted to the blog.
I can't see any reason for doing this, since I don't believe there is any personally identifiable information attached to the files purchased from storefronts.
March 10, 2023 at 8:54 PM #19391121.5k is totally over the top for a 3090 assuming you mean USD, you absolutely should not be paying MSRP for a card that's almost 3 years old.
Used 3090s go for $700-800 or so on the market, these make more sense.
February 15, 2023 at 8:10 PM #1928002My guess is that the site's recently being ddosed or otherwise attacked by certain butthurt individuals so there's more verification of some sort.
February 11, 2023 at 11:48 AM #1926287>rack mounted fanless server board GPU
In that case you should probably not run that, even if you are able to get it working. These fanless cards are designed for operation inside a case with screaming loud fans blasting air across them. Running them open air is not a good idea.
Example of such a server:
Just buy a 1080ti or 3060, that would probably serve your needs better.
February 10, 2023 at 8:56 PM #1926038It's been a while since I've used any public trackers, but assuming they still work like they did in the past, all of the above should be perfectly doable.
As long as a public tracker accepts announces of all torrent infohashes (as opposed to only torrents that are registered and/or uploaded to the tracker), then one simply has to create a torrent file pointing to that tracker, upload that torrent file to a private group, and then share that torrent file. As long as someone is seeding that torrent, it will work. Such lists are often published on Google, for example https://thomas.vanhoutte.be/miniblog/free-open-and-working-torrent-tracker-list-for-2023/
So to achieve what you are asking,
1: Create a torrent file that references some content you wish to share, adding the announce URLs of these trackers.
2: Load that torrent file onto your computer and point it to the content
3: Share the torrent file with your private group of friends, who can download it normally.
February 10, 2023 at 5:12 PM #1925957Interesting to see this post here. As a very long time (20+y) torrenter and having been involved in the running of private torrent trackers, I'll add some thoughts:
1: qbt is by far the best multiplatform client for general users, if you don't already have a preferred one.
2: Running a torrent tracker is extremely time and manpower intensive, and quickly dies without a dedicated team and users behind it. It's likely better to post the content from certain toxic creators and link the torrent files (or a magnet link) here.
3: A magnet link is a link to the torrent file, in a form of bootstrapping. The client uses the magnet link to download the torrent file, then uses the torrent file to download the content.
4: The web3 IPFS-based methods are technology wise just public torrents wearing a different hat. Once it stops being seeded, the content dies like any other.
5: @Ethiopia On all private trackers I'm aware of, torrents should be extracted into folders and not in a single zip file. Contrary to initial assumptions, it's better to have a partial seed than no seed at all, huge zip files get deleted and waste everyone's bandwidth. This appears to be a highly universal agreement amongst trackers, so I think it very likely has merit.
6: @littlepleasures It's always a delicate balance between having enough users to keep torrents alive and keep out the trolls. In the current case, I think the user pool is small enough that it is likely better to avoid closing invites, as @tedthelearner has mentioned, closing invites leads to quick stagnation.
