Also I'd like to point out that backups were mentioned, and second the notion that blaming someone (intentionally or otherwise) for not doing a back-up, for using an external drive, for whatever really, doesn't help when someone is asking for assistance.

There also seems to be some confusion about the problem from the people in this thread, that the problem is the master boot record (MBR) of the drive, not a deletion of files, not the drive not being formatted, and not Windows being unable to read the drive.

I do hope that everyone uses this opportunity to go set up a back up if they don't have one or to go run their back up if they do have one and it's been a while. Best practice for back-ups is to have it run on a schedule--less often for replaceable files, and very often for irreplaceable ones. Remember to as much as possible to have your back-ups on different drives as much as possible, and to have separate and organised back-ups for different things.

I also advise against using drive docking stations with external drives, I have had failures myself with them and know of many people who've had similar failures with them. Either use an enclosure (they're very cheap! Just make sure you get one that works with the size of drive you have, both in terms of physical size and disk space) or put it directly in your computer.

Best Wishes for Anja's restore as well as all our member's hard drive (and physical) health

It repairs the MBR of the same drive, at first it will try to recover it from the backup, if that fails it will try to rebuild it. I've only had that be not successful once, but that was when the issue was caused by a faulty docking station. You do not need to copy or backup any files for that process.

If it's not successful it won't do anything to the drive, so if it comes to that everything will be just as recoverable before it attempted to repair the MBR of the drive.

As for the future, I recommend back ups as opposed to multiple smaller drives--though having a separate drive for backups is a good idea. I have a backup I run about once a month for installation files, twice a month for the DAZ library folder (where everything is installed to) and then a daily one (more frequently during big projects) for my personally created files. I also save completed files (like characters and scenes) to a dropbox.

It depends on what caused the error, but I've had a lot of luck in the past with this tool, including the restoring of a MBR on a drive that was 4 TB. It's free and a very powerful little program, highly recommended.

@AnjaBear The upload has the earlier version with the error, as I understand any new downloads of the product from DAZ will not have the error. My file is not an official fix, it is just the one file with the single digit changed that causes the error.

Here is a fix, just make sure that you overwrite.

    Necro Cephaloid Fix

To AnjaBear or whoever can fix the upload, only the FBM_Necromorph is in this zip, and overwriting in the download will fix the problem.

I'm assuming you ran the script for Golden Palace and New Gens to get the character's skin colour?

So long as the uploader's account still has the file the mega download link does not expire.

Right, so I'll replace it with a SATA drive then, looking into NAS to do a small render farm anyway.

So as long as the base drives are similarly structured, in theory I should be able to open projects. If they used sliders from a character bundle that is now in a different location, as long as those are loaded into DAZ's known content folders, they should work?

Mind you, I'll find out soon enough, anyway.

Who'd like 20,000 points and a free DAZ shop item to do this all for me?
