Wasn't sure if RS was a friendly topic here, or a competitor? <_<
January 30, 2026 at 6:48 AM #2161636JFC I had no idea about the Tafi thing. Reading about it is really sad. NFTs, Metaverse... how the hell did Daz3D get conflated with Crypto! FFS.
Something I don't see brought up is how AI is going to massively effect animations in DAZ.
Almost every single visual novel author I know, and I know most of them, are moving to AI animations. It's simple. You generate keyframes, then AI animates the scene. No janky animation inside Daz studio. No frames. Just a smooth, finished AI animation. The tech is still in infancy. Most people haven't figured out how to make good animations yet. But it is evolving. quickly.
December 22, 2025 at 7:38 AM #2157065@Frank22 I hadn't considered the poly count of the torus but that is a good call. I wonder if it would make it faster to create a ring light via an alpha map on a single poly plane?
@john09 I'm not the best at rendering but people seem to enjoy my VN work. You should probably look into whoever is developing your favorite games about how they light a scene... but this is how I do it. Super simple, just add lights as needed. Only use a light plane on the ceiling if the window light isn't enough. As for render times, I don't pay attention to that any more. All rendering is done via render queue at night. Render times will always be an enemy, so I only render while sleeping. Shouldn't be an issue with a properly set up scene.

No script for the ring light, just make a torus primitive, parent it to the camera, adjust the shape as needed like a real ring light, add emissive light on the surfaces tab of the torus. Takes some experimenting but it works as an adjustable headlight.
I haven't used DAZ 2025, assuming you've got a 50 Series card then? They changed the way ghost lights worked in version 4.2X. Basically you're creating an emissive surface on a primitive and making the primitive itself invisible while the light still effects the scene.
Not sure if they work on 2025, but Riversoft Art's scripts are absolutely key. Look At Me, Camera Cut Away, Scene Cut Away, Now-Crowd-Billboards etc.December 21, 2025 at 10:10 AM #2156972To light interiors, I use a ghost light plane on the ceiling. This simulates light bouncing off the ceiling naturally. Then add light sources such as lamps etc. Finally, I add a ring light to my camera rig which is an emissive torus around the camera lens, to add illumination to people. Finally, HDRI is always ran for lighting from the windows.
I recommend Camera Cutaway from Riversoft Art. It adds section planes to reduce polygon count, but has a script to automatically block outdoor light as if the walls in a room were still there. It is a wonderful tool.December 21, 2025 at 6:41 AM #2156946Figured it out. If you load the full outfit the buttons load. If you just load the shorts, or items separately, the buttons won't load with the shorts.
November 24, 2025 at 7:47 AM #2153993If only the DS employees spent as much time improving features rather than creating DRM to lock up their precious models. By the time 50 series is natively supported 60 series will be released.
November 24, 2025 at 7:39 AM #2153992This coming from the guys who eat beans on toast 😛
Peanut Butter is god's ambrosia.
I eat it while hiking, no fridge, no problem. It lasts a long time.November 24, 2025 at 7:33 AM #2153991My guess is, we won't see a full release of 50++ series support Daz Studio until DS 6.x which will be (hopefully) in 2026, but unfortunately it seems their new released will all utilize their Premier pay/month model, which is essentially DRM. So using things like rend queue and a 50 series card will likely require a subscription because authors like Manfriday are no longer developing their own releases for DS 2025+

March 5, 2025 at 3:27 AM #2120457Looking for clarification, how many points are given for uploads that aren't on the site which are not part of requests?
There is an inherent risk to uploading purchases here. If it's traced back to you, you could potentially be banned from those markets or even sued.
March 4, 2025 at 9:58 PM #2120425That makes sense @warrant63
The original smutba post is confusing. I guess what the author meant by converted to G8 was they have a G8 model rigged in Blender and converted it for use in Blender specifically.March 4, 2025 at 6:24 AM #2120314It is strange. The original post says they converted it to G8, but then it's a .blend file. Anyways it's a free file, so why request for it at all? None of it makes sense.
March 4, 2025 at 6:08 AM #2120313You're right but that's the problem. How long can DS survive as a predominantly still image generator? It's always been a very niche market but that market is getting smaller with the addition of other tools. AI generation is another thing that will cut into DS's clientbase. So what room does DS have to grow? More polys, more detail... hence G9, but we don't need more details, we need better tools.
March 3, 2025 at 10:32 PM #2120257There are a few good G9 products but nothing blew my mind. Addy's stuff is always amazing but generic. There isn't anything that truly justifies the upgrade.
I already have all the characters for my VN built in G8. Even G8.1 wasn't impressive enough unless you liked a specific character built on it.
We don't need a more detailed figure or male/female merger. We need better animation, deformers and clipping tools. Now DS is trying this premium shit. I would gladly pay $20/month if DS wasn't a steaming pile of featureless crap. If they want to charge Adobe prices they need to provide Adobe quality. We still lack simple features like open recent, right click to duplicate, turn off render icon, save as opened name...
Engines like UE5 are getting more user friendly with bigger content libraries. SFM and Blender took huge portions of the market which Ds could have had. DS will not be relevant for much longer because they have doubled down on selling content and not on basic animation/cinematic tools.
