applying the character preset worked, only took Daz an hour...

i appreciate the help, thanks. i checked the hidden parameters and that's not it.

for some reason the problem is with the shaping preset. it doesn't save the character as it should.

when i apply the shaping preset to 8.0 it's dissimilar to how the character should look in the same way as when applying it to 8.1

why would the shaping preset save incorrectly? everything looks checked when saving.

no, there isn't one. i think it because the 8.1 base has different polygons in the mesh. in my eyes 8.1 is a different character, and with sellers creating products exclusively for 8.1 cements that even more so, a year from now the ratio of products for 8.1 that doesn't work with 8.0 will be a lot higher.

isn't there a way to make daz think the dialed character is using 8.1 even when it isn't?
