Perhaps saying you'd like 10k points for an item You brought for $200 you may get people to toss in more points.

I think the mind set is everyone offers 500 so that's the standard. I'm in habit of doing that not only because everyone offers it but because it's easy to remember when I've got 20 offers pending.
If I start offering different amounts I'm likely to forget my offer.

Most of what I've shared was out of my pocket unless it was very old content. I don't have the funds to drop $200 a pop but don't mind an occasional item.

There are plenty of people that contribute nothing and rely on the generosity of people like you. There apparently are a few that make money off posting your shares on other sites. You get nothing from those.

Again and again I try to figure a way the site and users can reward people that share content. I don't think an overabundance of points is enough.

Looking at the donations people give to contests shows there is still a strong and generous community hidden here.

I agree that seeing plenty of people offering points for a 3D asset that I'm on the fence about buying often pushes me to buy it, then share it.

a way the site and users can reward people that share content. I don’t think an overabundance of points is enough.

That would be nice, I think there might be a way to do that and get the site funds to pay for hosting.

Just a thought, what if instead of a daily 100 points just for logging in, when you click the button to download a post you can unlock the download either with points or by watching a video ad. Sure there will be people who wouldn't even want to do that. Not gonna go further into that, but it doesn't matter.

This could encourage new members to contribute to earn points and adds more content for everyone, who wants to watch ads all the time... It doesn't have to be a hassle for established members that earned their stripes.

It will also generate an environment where the people who participate in requests are the ones who contribute to the site.

It can go further and have a reward aspect, video ads can generate quite a bit in revenue. Some of it can be used to buy 3D store gift vouchers. Members with lots of points can trade in a set amount of points for a voucher. Funds beyond that can pay the hosting and maybe even a cup of coffee for Hunter.

    Other benefits it would have:

    1. It would strengthen the points as a currency. Scarcity = Valuable

    2. More people would look to buying points thereby donating to the site and gift vouchers.

    3. It will encourage participation in art contests.

    4. Encourage posting filled requests to the blog.

I'm sure there's more and that it can be refined and improved.

I'd be strongly against exchanging points for gift vouchers etc. It would encourage behavior like we saw yesterday with a user scamming points via requests, not to mention that gift vouchers would give the vendor sites an easy way to identify Zone users.

Points for watching videos... No problem with that, but finding a trustworthy ad provider who's happy to work with a pirate site might not be so easy...

There was some discussion last week about delaying newly released content by 30 days before posting it here so we're not totally undermining the content creators income streams. I'd suggest that - if possible - the visibility of new content is tied to user rankings. Those that share or contribute the most would see newly released content first (after 30 days in the store), those that share or contribute the least would have to wait longer (say 60 days after it's been released for Rank 1 users). It doesn't directly penalise the users who for whatever reason don't share, since they will be able to get the product eventually, but it does reward those who do by giving them early access.

I'd also suggest that, again if possible, a 'thank you' button is added below the user ranking badges in the forum so users who don't\can't share but contribute with help and advice can earn a little extra posting tutorials etc. The amount could be the same as or slightly lower than that earned by sharing a product in the main blog.

    I think that's a good idea.

    @Queensknight

    All very excellent points.

Of course there are some here that will offer points and after getting the item NEVER send the points.
Also some that just ignore your points offer and send to everyone else.

Hopefully your new system will mean if someone offers points they actually have them and will automatically be reserved for the item, as well as if an offer is made the filler cannot refuse to send the item.

Now - if we could just get all the items posted that have been filled and indicated that they will be posted at a later date [site rules suggest 1 week; maybe max of 1 Month] but are still missing many months later, there would be an even bigger choice here [& without private fills].

    🙂

Some sort of arbitrage or escrow system would help with both the never sending points and never getting the items problems, although that would probably require a lot of coding to get it to work.

I thought that the usual rule for stuff that's not posted to the blog at a latter date was that if it's not been posted by the fulfiller of the original request after 30 days that it could then be posted by someone else?

    That is already in place.

Currently the rules state an item not posted to the blog after a week of fulfillment, can be uploaded by anyone.

Truth be told, I don't think I've ever asked for a "requets"... IF I NEED SOMETHING, I BUY IT AND SHARE ....
Maybe I'm a "rara avis", I'm not a "pretty" renderer, but, honestly, I'm fed up with "sexy lingerie" (do women walk down the street with only that...?), models of "women with huge tits and asses", and clothes that not even an actress on the "red carpet" of Hollywood dares to wear.
The points are the least of it: It's not "money"....
What I do find "indecent" is that once a request is filled, it is not made public.
Are the ZoneGFX points used to put them in a bank in Switzerland? 😀

    @D0gg0d

Like many here, I also started accumulating content on KAT back in the day. At least with torrents, everyone had to share bandwidth to make sharing things more robust.

I agree with what you posted, but not sure why you directed your post to me.

@eelgoo, if the rules don't change to extend that period to a month, some of us are going to stop filling.

As has been discussed in other threads recently, a number of us want a posting delay for new releases to give the PAs some time to make some sales before we introduce their products to the wild.

I post my fills to the blog after a month, so if someone I filled it for decides to post it to the blog a week later I would be frankly pissed. Someone did that to me just last week, in fact, and that person will never receive another fill from me again.

While I'm in a cranky mood I might as well rant about bumping, too 🙂

When I see someone bumping posts in the Requests forum it tells me they want to get the item filled faster, but they aren't willing to increase their offer. To my mind, if you're bumping a post it should be accompanied by an increase in your offer, otherwise you're just saying you're eager but too cheap to buy the damn thing yourself.

When I see the same person bumping a request repeatedly it gets quite irritating. You want it that badly, buy it yourself, or at least increase the incentive for someone else to do it.

@queensknight, your post yesterday captures my thoughts perfectly. I find it demotivating to fill requests for less than 500 points. So, I won't do it. If a system is enacted that forces me to share the link with anyone who offers a bid (no matter how low), then I won't use that system. It should be 100% up to the request filler to decide where our cutoff is. And the Coming Soon section should have a range of 7 to 30 days imo. We want to give the PA's some slack and the request fillers should have the same slack to make the masses wait longer than a week. I get the love load3d and render have by folks here, but they shouldn't be scrapping this site every hour. Just another thing that demotivates the uploaders. And I know some of the suspicions that folks have here about who runs those sites, but load3d is run too crappily for those suspicions to be true. my opinion and thanks for the most excellent post.

idk, are people buying assets *just* to share them? I buy assets I need for my own work and then share the assets on here a while later, so the points I get are icing on the cake. The incentive to do so is "does this benefit others?" and for that the answer is yes, regardless of the amount of points I get. I don't get the demotivation or whatever.

Then again, I'm just an overly optimistic anarchist, so *shrug*.

I do think the standard waiting period should be 2-3 weeks after an item releases, I'm not opposed to it being a month though. My main thing is "upcoming" posts need to be at the top of the blog when they become available rather than being buried on page whatever.
