    My main PC:

    Core i7 5820k
    64gb DDR4 RAM
    GTX 780 (6gb Version)
Samsung 850 EVO SSD 500gb (boot drive)
    Samsung M2 NVMe 240gb (swap)
    3x Seagate ST2000 2gb Hybrid HDD (RAID 0)
    Triple Monitor setup (3 x 32" BenQ BL3200)

To be fair, this was built for video editing and film VFX, but it doesn't mind rendering pretty ladies occasionally 🙂

My system is pretty old and the gfx card is on it's way out.

    These are my specs:

    Processor - AMD FX-8150 Eight-Core Processor 3.61GHz
    RAM = 16GB
    64-bit Operating System
    Nvidia GTX 465
    250GB SSD
1TB External for storing random crap
2TB Internal HD (This is for Daz)
3TB External for file storage and backup
500GB External for storing my artwork
    Acer 28" 1080p Monitor

I'm running DAZStudio 4.8 and render in 3Delight, with an average render time between
15 minutes to an hour depending upon scene complexity.

A simple example which took just uner 20 minutes to render.

    Processor - Intel Core i7-6820HQ 2.70 GHz
    RAM - 16.0 GB
    64-bit Operating System
    Intel Graphics 530 (don't laugh)
My system is a laptop provided by my employer. The graphics card is integrated into the board and it sucks. Somehow I'm still able to render in Iray, but it's frequently a struggle.

@Tomsk, Those system specs are pretty good apart from the graphics card. I had a GTX 460 previously so I know what cards of that level are able to do and not do. You would be so much happier with a nice shiny new card, remember to ask Santa! 😉 I'm really surprised at how good your pictures look in 3Delight though as I've only really bothered with Iray, thinking that 3Delight renders were just flat, plastic looking things. I might try some renders using 3Delight to see what they're like.

, You do what you can with the tools at your disposal. I remember when I first tried out Poser so many years ago, from a cover CD (I know, I'm old), and my PC couldn't even chug through to a finished render, it just kept crashing. Be thankful that your hardware works. 😉

I think my issue is I'm playing with full 3D environments and too many lights. I'll try and be more simple and see if I can get some quicker renders.

    Yes the downsides to Iray

    Loves Light....Hates Dark
Loves Simple lighting and backgrounds...hates HD large backgrounds with specialty lighting....what can ya do right, really like the detail in Iray but the render times can be a killer.

Yeah it's my iray stuff that looks flat and plastic hehe!

    AMD-FX 8320E 8 core processor
    16 gig Ram
    64 bit op
    2 TB HD =C
4 TB Hd Storage -back up
    1 TB Hd Storage
    Nividia GForce GTX 960

Fastest render I've done in Iray 5 minutes longest two and a half hours.

It's all about the scene lighting. Don't be afraid to put numbers in the hundreds of thousands or even millions in the lumens, and don't rely on environmental lighting, IRAY just doesn't do a great job with HDRI as a light source.

Treat iray as a photo studio (proper key lighting, fill lights, etc) and it gives you nice results.

    Try to top this :

    - Samsung 850 500gb main drive
    - 4TB WD blue
    - 2TB WD blue
    - 48GB Ram
    - i7 processor
    - Nvidia 1080ti for renders
    - Nvidia 1080 for anything else

    Bring it!

@Silverboax, Yeah I learnt about the lighting situation first hand when I tried to make a scene from scratch and couldn't even see my scene with the default lighting parameters. I think if my memory is correct it's 1500 lumens and I was raising it in increments of 100 when I should have been raising it in increments of 10,000's! I don't know why the default would be so low, I mean you can always dial it down but not seeing it at all just makes you think you're doing something wrong!

I've been using down-lighting, floating light sources (thank glob for invisibility) and setting up lighting rigs parented to my camera. It's definitely a learning curve though especially when you're stubborn and don't want to watch tutorials yet (I want some familiarity and understanding first).

(P.S. I think the 970's were listed as 4GB but only had like 3GB usable, there was an uproar about it at the time with some people returning their cards.)

    @Coolcat
, another octacore user! Do you know if all your cores are utilised when rendering? More cores should help with rendering times. I've knocked out a few test renders, just figures and no background within a few minutes but this last render I did just beat me. 14 hours means I won't be trying 4K again anytime soon but I'm sure something was off with my settings as every time I restart Daz I have to set them again even when restoring a saved preset....

I'm thinking of showing this render here but it's also on my DA page and I don't want to get people tying me to both really. Ah pirate troubles...

I've only been using Daz for about a week now, it's definitely different to other 3d apps i've used... and it definitely does some things in ways i'd call 'wrong' 😀 The lighting is really obtuse, I mean lighting in 3d is always a challenge but Daz doesn't make it easier... the one thing I will give Iray though is it does light emitting textures really nicely (or at least, I like the soft glow it gives i'm sure some people would rather a hard light).

Today's challenge is learning how to wrangle multi-layer textures so I can try to have partially light emitting textures without using geometry overlays or splitting meshes (which I suspect Daz can't do, but we'll see....)

I would think all the cores get used I never check to see what's happening with what when I render I just let it do it's thing. I was amazed when it took only 5 minutes to render now I don't even remember which render it was lol too many to keep count. I try to stay more with 3Delight, when a render it takes a minute or two most of the time and it's kind of hard to beat that, and half the time I don't have the patients to wait. I did a story that was almost 400 renders which I could do in Iray but would rather use 3Delight because of the time and can fit bigger environments , more characters, ect..
