@Mystic Fortune
The setup you want is fine for both.
Try and get used parts and save some cash IMO.
People tend to go crazy and dump their barely used hardware on ebay because they want the latest stuff. Worth looking into IMO.July 29, 2017 at 1:42 am #297338gtx 980ti I want to get a 1080 but the render test show it would only render 5 secs faster so Ill stick with what I got.
July 29, 2017 at 2:01 am #297348I got a EVGA 1080 GTX for free after my nephew upgraded to two 1080ti's
more money than sense but i'm not complaining 😀July 29, 2017 at 4:26 am #297389I feel like the poor relation
I have a Toshiba Satellite P850 i7 3610 QM CPU @ 2.30Ghz, 2301 Mhz 4 core 8 logical processors. 16 gig of ram which I updated recently from 8 gig
I was hoping to upgrade when I got my tax cheque, but my husband decided to put it towards the bills and future bills.
No intensive scenes for meJuly 29, 2017 at 5:30 am #297402My nvidia card is a GT 630M. She is several years old and really does need to be replaced but looks like I will have to wait a bit longer
July 29, 2017 at 6:17 am #297416Once I get it back up and running, my graphics desktop will be using a GTX 1050 4gb card which I already have picked up. I'm down to needing a new case, a power supply and ram. I have the AMD Phonmom(?) II 3.0ghz 6-core from the old desktop and the 1.5TB drive that I am going to start out with. I'll eventually upgrade the CPU to the AMD 4.7ghz 8-core. I might get a new drive has well.
July 29, 2017 at 10:09 am #297531AnonymousInactiveRank:You probably wouldn't notice the difference.
And I'd give a limb to have Octane over Iray. The demo was impressive.July 29, 2017 at 10:16 am #297537AnonymousInactiveRank:Used HP Z620 workstations can be bought fairly cheap these days.
All have E5 Xeon CPU's. Worth looking into if you want to upgrade your whole system.July 29, 2017 at 11:18 am #297560I was quite fortunate to get a good deal on a second hand GTX690, which seems to work very well.
🙂

July 29, 2017 at 4:41 pm #297704July 29, 2017 at 4:56 pm #297719AnonymousInactiveRank:Oh, I forgot about the 690 🙂
July 29, 2017 at 4:59 pm #297720Yeah...not state of the art, but still useful. 🙂
July 29, 2017 at 5:06 pm #297741AnonymousInactiveRank:It has plenty of grunt for Iray.
No need for an expensive newer model unless you're a pro and make money from 3D modelling IMO. 🙂 -
