February 9, 2018 at 8:29 pm #489901February 9, 2018 at 9:00 pm #489922@jason look, you have your opinion, people don't agree with you. No amount of browbeating us with links and videos is going to change opinions. People are getting frustrated, people are attacking each other. How about we all simply agree to disagree and leave the subject there.
Many people have said that if you want to run a competition with more stringent rules on voting, you're welcome to do so and those that want to take part will do so. Therefore I suggest you do that rather than beating a dead horse. It's already sludge and this thread appears to be creating ill feelings between members in an otherwise awesome site.
February 9, 2018 at 9:19 pm #489933@adam - sorry if it came across all elitist, no group of hobbyists is all going to have similar skill levels, and friendly contests don't need to cater that strongly to skill levels.
That said, I think we can all agree that there are a few things that _everyone_ can mess up like entries being too dark or overbright and that probably _should_ make a difference when we're talking about a contest.
February 9, 2018 at 10:02 pm #489963@d0gg0d the people on this site can help you improve. Throw your art into the showcase and ask for constructive criticism. And take it constructively. One of the things I love about Zone is watching everyone, myself include, improve. Shout out to @evilmonkey! I love his criticism.
@jason I have an offer. I would be willing to co-host a contest with you. We can match point contribution and I can help with tallying judge results. I already have the spreadsheet (another shout out to @nemain) worked out in my head. I would do it because there are aspects of your idea that I think have merit. Judging each entry would eliminate certain elements of a contest, such as “did I submit too early?”. I think that can happen when entries start rolling in on the last day of a competition. The entries submitted within a couple of days of announcement can get left in the cold, like performing first on American Idol or something.I think one overall 1-10 score would be better than two scores (technical and creative) , but if you’re adamant, I would defer rule making to you. Above all, it would need to be easy to judge, like providing a form that judges (meaning the members) can cut and paste into a new reply.
You’re a friend to me too. That’s why I would caution you against banding with a public enemy number one who says shitty things to people, always complains, and probably didn’t give a damn about your opinion but rather just gravitated to the drama to be antagonizing (speculation of course)
February 9, 2018 at 10:54 pm #490002@Rob Thanks, I posted a little in the gallery so far. Feel free to be a critic. Ill probably start a help thread for me in a bit. I tend to like working stuff out myself if I can.
If not ive got no problem asking for guidance.February 9, 2018 at 11:04 pm #490012@ SilverboaX Life is good. Im just not good with authority figures. I dont like being told I "have" to do something a certain way. I feel art and photography should flow through you not be governed by laws.
If they happen to conform to the rules, all the better. Ive cropped photos to the rules and left others alone.
As always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
February 10, 2018 at 1:04 am #490110I gravitate to like minded artists who appreciate the technicalities needed to reach aesthetic work. If your a Magnet that is against this, then I too become a Magnet , and you wonder why we get repelled, it is only natural. Rob and Morri expose themselves to who they really are, and I appreciate that.
Here's hoping Jason doesn't give this up and carries on posting insightful tuts, and the Magnets should stay clear if they don't want it...thats the best way to KIS.
February 10, 2018 at 7:59 pm #490959@Morri talk to the links not to me please I know 'people resist change' If you don't like my posts don't read them
Today it's time to talk about the CENTER OF INTEREST using COREL PAINTER
and the Composition helpers that are there to show my idea applied to some of the paintings of the famous painter Frank Frazetta
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Frazetta
To find the composition helpers in Corel Painter
and then you have this panel
Here is the the spiral in Corel painter
the spiral and the squares
the spiral squares and the diagonal from top left
ILLUSTRATION of the CENTER OF INTEREST in using the spiral
Using Frank Frazetta's work: THE SPIRAL
the spiral again showing the center of interest
The RIDERS on the storm as I call this one again the SPIRAL
Here is the DIAGONALS
another example using diagonals
adding the diagonal top right to bottom left and the line at a 90-degree angle:
ENJOY and have serious fun my friends
February 10, 2018 at 9:41 pm #491041@jason since this has clearly become a My way or the Highway kind of situation, I'm out.
February 10, 2018 at 11:03 pm #491100@jason - honestly dude, you should spend less time trolling, and more time working on your skills.
February 11, 2018 at 12:30 am #491166@Morri Actually he had nothing to do with the "rules".
As so many sheep have done in the past, a lot of people HAVE to have some for of structure to follow.
Millions died because they followed Hitler blindly and followed his rules to a better life. look at that final out come. Rules have a place. AND rules have a place in art. However when someone MUST do something or they are wrong then I start having issues.
I think Jason read this statement. I am the way, the truth, and the light. No other may be an artist accept through me.
February 11, 2018 at 12:36 am #491172I linked a few pictures earlier. While these probably have rules, I dont see them standing out. Does any one see the rules in half of these pictures?
February 11, 2018 at 12:58 am #491194The 'rules' do have some value, not as rules as such, but more as guidelines for best practice.
🙂
