Very true @Pooper. It's got to the stage where I often don't install all the textures that can run into 100s of MB. I just install the item and a couple of textures I like.
I first noticed it a while back when a G3M polo shirt was close to half a GB.... ridiculous and unnecessary.November 8, 2021 at 11:28 PM #1747000Is that what it is? Dforce's fault? I had wondered whether it was my imagination that the brand new stuff coming out lately looked particularly flat with floppy collars and details like skin flaps hanging off a deflated person. Less detail in general in the cloth; it looks like whale skin or latex in some of the image previews. I realize mesh has to be simplified to better work with dForce, but not like THAT. Copped it to vendors figuring people's newer rigs could handle the bloated file sizes and more items in the shop= more money. Quantity over quality.
dForce bra and panties? What is there to dForce if it's tight to the skin? Am I missing something? Hmm, thinking on it, I suppose people would want to fling them around and make them hang off lamp shades or something.
It's funny, I see people raving about 4k and 8k textures, but you actually get a sharper image by using a 2 or even 1k texture and tiling it. Of course you run into tiling issues even with a seamless texture, but there are ways around that. I'm sure like with everything else, it's not always the best option, but for the kind of stuff we do, yeah. 8-10k is totally unnecessary.
November 9, 2021 at 12:20 AM #1747019I am tired of lazy DForce clothing.
Bloated poorly made & optimised file sizes with little or no morphs.Talented modellers can do wonders with a relatively small, well optimised file sizes & useful morphs.

November 9, 2021 at 12:43 AM #1747022For me at least its about convenience. @Ecthelion
I'll more than likely download a nice V4 character but I would rather not wade through 70 hair files for V4 when I type "female hair" (just an example)
I would also like to see a nice G8F post not pushed to page 6 because someone decided to upload 22 V4 files that are 5 years old. I could have posted about 300 of them as single files a couple years back but bundled them for you guys.
I "assume" "most" people enjoy browsing the content they use often vs browsing through a few pages of stuff they have no use for.
Is it "that" time consuming? Not, not really. Is it annoying to see 2 pages of stuff I had on a hard drive 5 years ago? A little. Would it be better to have a Poser section, 3D section, Daz section and Software section? IMHO yes.
I fail to see why organizing the site to be more user friendly gets so much hate. Hard core Poser users have little need to see the flood of G8.1 content being posted any more than hard core G8 users need to see another V4 item.
I will personally browse every section of the site. It just makes things nicer for some people. I just happen to be one of them that would like to see a better layout. Not sure why that's a sin to want something nicer. Not sure how that harms peoples world and turns it upside down. If it doesn't bother you then GFY. A change wouldn't make any difference then if you like everything.
November 9, 2021 at 1:43 AM #1747037Oh I'm not against organization at all. In fact, I think it would be great for the site.
It was more the attitude being put off in the referenced post.
November 9, 2021 at 2:40 AM #1747048I'm never going to complain about free, take it or leave it, stuff. However, the lack of morphs these days is damn frustating. On the positive side it has given me enough motivation to actually learn rigging/weight mapping and zbrush so I'm good either way
November 9, 2021 at 4:33 AM #1747060There is a custom and free section to post your content in.
I once suggested to someone it would be a good idea to move their car to a spot less likely to get hit. I guess they took it as a complaint and left it where it was parked. Later that night it got hit. go figure.
November 9, 2021 at 5:04 AM #1747067I doubt they took it as a complaint. More likely, they just had their head too far up their own butt to actually hear what you were saying.
November 9, 2021 at 9:33 AM #1747118This looks like a conversation between grandmothers, to see who does the best crochet.
It seems incredible that at this point in the 21st century, this is still debated.
Either we evolve or we get stuck in past yearnings. I also liked my mother's soups or cakes. But it happens that my mother died 11 years ago. What if! I owe him respect, of course.
Respect is different from use: preserve discipline, taste, but adapt it to current workflows.
Stop being nostalgic: let's adapt now, damn it, let's adapt to more evolved models.
Real life still exists, for crybabies.
I will not comment further: The mummies, their sarcophagi.November 9, 2021 at 9:58 AM #1747122We all want to make a film, some good representations to be very skilled, ... for what?
We know too much that our capacities are very limited: we are hobbyists or professionals. We're not going to do ANYTHING with Broadcast-quality Daz Studio: You know.
But you insist on using DS with his infamous Iray.
Jump to other software, even warez / pirate, via Torrent or whatever!
Damn, move your ass !! 😀November 9, 2021 at 7:07 PM #1747282No, we don't all want to make a film. :0/
I am quite content with a decent single frame render.
