I think Victoria 4.2 was born in 2008. That was 13 years ago. (He was already born when he was 20 years old because of his appearance .. then...) She'll be mature as a matchmaker by now, or a topless waitress from a roadside bar in a battered nook. LOL. I understand that users insist on using old models, but ... Are you looking to retire this poor lady? Or are we going to be supporting her life pension?
October 28, 2021 at 6:49 PM #1744166I agree she is well past pensionable age as a Great Grandma at the very least, but TBH there are a few reasons she is still about.
She is arguably the most advanced base character natively usable in Poser.
There are several shit-tons of assets for her.
She uses inj instead of having to load every morph installed :0E
Finally, there are some merchants who can still make her look really good, especially when compared to LaFemme. For the record, I haven't used Poser since Iray arrived, but I still have a soft spot for a good V4 character & some of her assets are really first class.

October 29, 2021 at 11:52 AM #1744311I've never used "la femme". And I agree with you all: It has a series of immense content, which I have not used either. It is not a problem to use the model, but how it behaves in other software, such as Maya or Cinema 4D, for example. I think both Vik4 and M4 are obsolete. but, as I say in the statement, I understand that there are people who use it. If one thing is for renders and earning a few coins, it seems excellent to me. But let's be clear: It's as old/vintage as an Atari joystick.
October 29, 2021 at 12:28 PM #1744317I agree with @ethiopia. For me it's about the content, and I use the weight mapped V4 so bending isn't such an issue. I often use the WM V3 as well.
I want to have a wide variety of characters to use in stories, and I use anything from V2 to LaFemme to get that. Recently I used Mike 2 (to play a grandfather, appropriately enough!) None of these figures are obsolete for me, though you've got to be careful how you pose the oldsters. Like me, they don't bend so well. ๐
October 29, 2021 at 1:58 PM #1744331The original (4.0) Vicky 4 came out in 2005... older still. I think I made the jump from Vicky to Genesis towards the end of 2014 or so... I avoided Genesis 1 and 2, jumped in at 3, then went full-on G8 when that came out.
I look back at some of my older stuff for V4, and I hate to say this, but most of the figures I used then look... spindly. Tall, skinny, lanky. Almost alien, truth be told. The ones that I like, I look at and remember the tons of meticulous work I put into them to make them human-proportioned. I think there were four or five characters that I loved from those days, that I meticulously transferred from Vicky 4, to Genesis 3. Two of them made it to Genesis 8 (much much(!) easier to transfer them exact from G3 -> G8).
Don't get me wrong though, some older meshes I love having, love using even today, and I won't ever give them up (Mostly anime/toon figures, like Sera, NearMe, ChibiBel, BallJoint Doll, and similar). They bend well enough, and little tricks like SubD keeps them fresh. I use CrossDresser to convert all the Vicky 4 clothing and accessories I have (hundreds of items...) to fit them.
I think I stopped using Poser back around 2012 or so, so figures like LaFemme are things I never used. I tried Erogenesis' Evolution One V4 variant once in DS, but it quickly blew up in a rather spectacular manner. Pity that, because his Lali injection mods on Vicky 4.2 were my absolute go-to towards the end of my time with Vicky 4.
The later Poser figures that rely on Python or Poser-specific stuff is worthless to me. As far as I am concerned, Poser is dead; in a way that makes me sad, but only with the same melancholy that I would hold for Fortรฉ Agent, Quake, Winamp, SunOS, or eDonkey. Dusty, faded-but-fond memories of obsolete code. In a way, some figures end up the same way. I'll never see a need to take out Alexa, Terai Yuki, AnimeDoll, Posette (Poser 4 default female figure), Pranx, Stephanie... but I still meticulously keep them all on disk. Just in case.
October 30, 2021 at 4:38 PM #1744656I think I started with Vicky V2 or V3 with a demo version of Poser V3ish!
I have to admit, I haven't touched V4 since I moved from Poser and C4D to D|S. I think I've still got her in one of my creakingly overloaded runtimes, but I doubt if I could remember how to use her. I do remember getting vaguely frustrated with trying to find the right morph injections as, IIRC, they always seemed to be in the same place as the material ones and I was and still am utterly s*** at keeping my runtimes organised.
I do agree about the sheer amount of content for her though and I'd be interested to know if the converters for V4 to G8 are any good because I've just checked my oldest runtime and apparently still have a whole bunch of V4 assets installed that I'd forgotten about!
October 30, 2021 at 7:47 PM #1744693@terahurts, C4D is now a powerfull tool. I have the R19 for old plugins, and the r25 is soo nice!
October 31, 2021 at 12:14 AM #1744722Yes @Ethiopia, Ero hasn't updated his website in over a year but he's still active on DA. He's also now made some fun animated gifs. Lali was technically brilliant but not much good for DS. I think he made a DS version but I could never get Lali to work in DS. He also made a bunch of other characters using the same mesh... I fell in love with Xtina. IMO his integrated gens are still superior to any of the Genesis add-ons.

October 31, 2021 at 12:36 AM #1744724I've loved V4 clothes so much. The detailing, the folds in the mesh. Someone took time on the texturing for sure.
I've just downloaded a few V4 characters to see if I can fall in love with the people as well. Those M4 shoulders from the promo pics concern me a bit though...
October 31, 2021 at 3:01 AM #1744727M4 shoulders and a whole lot of bending issues with V4 and M4 moved me to DS and their models about 3 years ago. Poser relied on correction morphs for them to look half decent. Then again, I do have to do quite a bit of work on off-the-shelf Daz models, adding vascularity and muscle morphs and changing texture maps before I'm happy with them.
I started way back with Vicky 2, and yesterday deleted my last Poser set-up files due to lack of disc space so there's no going back for me. I had one legit version I bought and several others from torrents.
At some point you have to take the old dog out behind the barn and blow him away with your shotgun. Not nice but the world's like that and you have to move on.November 1, 2021 at 2:26 AM #1744940Nice! Thanks for the rec! I think the Edinburgh guy is my favorite.
November 1, 2021 at 2:41 AM #1744941Id really like to see some of the older V4 clothing converted to G8.
Not sure how well it would transfer. Ive had some not so great conversions from G2.
November 1, 2021 at 3:55 AM #1744949I had a lot of trouble with it, but then I'm not as savvy with DAZ as most people here. The long skirts give me too many issues. I usually end up porting just the outfit to Blender and re-rigging it entirely.
I'd be interested to hear if anyone has had better luck.
November 1, 2021 at 1:53 PM #1745063I tried a few V4 -> G8F conversion rigs, and they work okay, but between all the clothes for G1, G2, G3, and G8? I have yet to even burn though all of the G-series clothing, truth be told. Also, someone made an autofit for v4 clothes on G8 that works pretty well, so I stopped converting V4 clothing to G-series long ago, since I don't really have to.
@ethiopia - they still have NNTP servers that don't require a paid sub? I thought outside of usenet.nl and the like, most people just stopped bothering. It would be cool to be able to pop back into that world, even if just for the nostalgia.November 1, 2021 at 4:23 PM #1745093Like most I've got gigs of stuff I've never even loaded and mostly feel the same way.
However I remember there were several amazing artist that put out some really cool stuff that have either stopped or aren't putting out content like they use to.
Id have to browse Rendo if they are even still available and to refresh my memory.
