Carrying on from that other thread which is WAAAAAY off topic now... let's talk lighting 😀

@not-hunter - this is for you 😀

I threw together a quick box room to test. I didn't need to do anything special to get HDR lighting through the window. There's a spotlight in the scene to ensure it's not some issue combining HDR and DAZ lights. The window is reflective (as can be seen with the two cubes.

You can see that both using a backdrop (environment>backdrop) and using a planar image (geometry with a bitmap in the base color channel) work fine.

HDR light is casting in through the window, and the spotlight is adding light also.

I've uploaded the scene .duf file (obviously you won't have all my textures so it'll throw errors but im sure you can cope with that 😀 )

There seems to be a bit missing from your post 😀 I've never seen that site, tons of free HDRIs is pretty awesome (and probably worth supporting his patreon for a while)

That was the best one I found. I think Nasa has a few and Sharecg. Ive seen several others but none as nice as this. I Downloaded almost his whole site. Deviant art has several nice ones also.

A google turned up a good bit if your willing to scan through the junk.

Yes I have a bunch that I’ve totally legally acquired over time. Even the expensive commercial ones ant always great.

@d0gg0d , @silverboax how do you put these free hdri into Daz so that they can be used ? I must be missing something the way I am trying Daz don't seem to see them.

Well, I went to the excellent HDRIHaven site mentioned in Freestuff by Adam.

Very impressed with the content there, but I have a question.
There are a variety of sizes of file available, specifically:

16384×8192
371 MB

8192×4096
98 MB

4096×2048
25 MB

2048×1024
6.4 MB

1024×512
1.64 MB

So what size is optimum for use in DS, please?

No idea, the huge ones have to be scaled down and dont work well for me at least.

Id try downloading a 25 meg and a 6 and see what you like.

Most people probably wont render over 4096 for the internet.

also the larger the file the more it bogs my system down.

25 may be the magic number

You need to load it as an environment. Try finite with ground.

I have a poor memory and constantly have to mess with settings over and over.

One way to load it is https://zonegfx.com/ibl-master-for-daz-studio/ works well with hdri, for iray and 3delight, follow the instructions, you are good to go.
