    At least on my part, it isn't an ideology, but more of an ethos with a bit of self-interest rolled in.

    Small creators who make good stuff should be fostered and financially supported, so that they can be encouraged to make more good stuff.

    If I find their stuff useful and of good quality, I'll push a few shekels in their direction to encourage them to spend the time and effort to make more. That's not "bleeding heart", that's capitalism at its finest.

    If they go out of their way to make free stuff besides, even better.

    Now I am triple-double-tripled again, confused!!!!

    What are we trying to fix on this site then? This is coming from another forum post (https://zonegfx.com/forums/topic/important-reward-banning-changes/page/23/#post-2102655), so if you want to reply to me, then PM me so we don't tangle the different forums too severely.

    We're the scallywags who roamn the seven seas, arrrrr. It costs a pretty doubloon in roaming fees. A hard job, scallywagging. And the exam is a killer, you have to go to Tortuga to take the exam and those who flunk it have to walk the plank.

    what we are? greedy, egoistic and ignorant ... and justifying this with charity at the expense of others changes nothing.

    We are average people doing on a small scale and over a niche area what lots of people do with music, movies, softwares, etc. Since 30 years. I'm hearing that piracy will end all kind of businesses cos of the so called loss of money. I'm hearing that artists, studios, creators will go broke because of it, since I'm a kid, when back in the day we were making copies of music tapes. And so far, singers, actors, producers, etc. are still living in 30 rooms mansions with 3 swimming pools and 15 cars. And if studios are in bad shape theses days, that is mostly because making movies no one wants to see and you wouldn't want to even bother downloading.
    Why? because it's only a certain ammount of money people can spend per month on entertainment. And I'm not even talking about being poor there. It's no way average people can buy 15 albums a month, go to theater to see 2/3 movies a week (especially if having kids), get 5 video games, aand the list goes on. And I'm talking about average workers, here, not the guys making 4000/5000 bucks a month and who can trow money like crazy. So basically if all this content was not for "free" you wouldn't have the same amount of stuff on your computer, not even counting Daz.

    And it's the same for Daz stuff, it's done on a smaller scale with just a bunch of people, but it's a limit to what people would buy for Daz as well. Like big studios, if the ecco system can collapse, and the creators with it, it's mostly because of Daz'owners bad decisions, not listening their customers, what they want, what they need, etc.

    I took 10mn to make a quick calculation about the amount of money the Mystery Solvers scene I posted a while ago would cost me: 4 Characters, clothes, hair, lightning, expressions poses,envirronement, props etc. The whole thing was 423$. Probably a little more.Depending on inspiration, I can do 3 scenes like that a week with different settings. Do you REALLY think I... or any other average people would spend this kind of money over a mere hobby not bringing any money back?

    I don't feel the guilt for the mere reason that if it was no assets available for Daz allowing me to create a scene without having to sell a limb every single time, I would/could never used Daz at all in first place. So it was no loss of money for them at the end. On the contrary Because of all the stuff being available and allowing me to use Daz, it made me buying a few items I would never have purchased otherwise.

    I agree 99% Kheops, especially about the big businesses. The 1% is my concern for the small independent outlets and PAs.

    If their content is good, I firmly believe they will sell items and grow, like with any business. Over 2 years spent on Daz I have seen the rise of some creators, like HID, etc. They managed to get bigger and bigger because the stuff they release is top notch. And testing their items for "free" can make you willing to buy from them. Cos let's be real: How many times did you get an item who was looking super good on promo pic cos taken with the perfect angle and being post processed, then you could barely use in a scene because with any other angle, position, etc, it was sucking donkey d*cks?
    Same happens with video games. I downloaded The Witcher games in first place from DDL sites, and the game was so good that I purchased the ultimate edition later, then the complete series.
    And last thing about small creators. Have a look on monthly prices for Photoshop, Zbrush, Blender, etc. I would like to know how many of theses creators are using pirated versions of theses softwares in first place because of the price.

    About the likes of Photoshop, I can't tell for the last 20 odd years, but I think Adobe will make less money soon enough. Their recent change in policy about their right of access and use of creators production might help bury this company...
    I think that while quite a few creators might be using pirated software, many others will actually buy the stuff so they get access to support etc. After all they use it for a business.

    I agree @khefrenn ,after the first year that I had Daz I was ready to purge it from my computer because like you said a simple scene with a character or two will cost how much? for what ? a simple render? , If I had not found KAT back in the day and started getting stuff for free from there I would not be using Daz today which would = loss of sales for a bunch of artists/stores. It's kind of ironic actually stuff being pirated generates more sales for them and then they complain. I go and buy some of the same stuff I've downloaded for free because I like the product and like having a legit copy of it = more sales and I have wish lists at all the stores of stuff I already have and I like it and want a legit copy , I just wait for them to go on a good sale. FYI at 30% off I still pay a little more then full price and I have bought stuff when not on sale so I end up paying over 30% more soo who's getting ripped off ?.
    I should also say I've downloaded a lot of stuff and bought a lot of stuff that I do not like and will never use so I've been going over my library and have been removing them but it takes a while to do because I manually install everything so I have to manually uninstall which is a huge pain in the you know what-lol

    To put it in its best light, Piracy is an effective form of free advertising.

    @itsmenotyou

    You can streamline uninstalls by referring to the Inst file you created when you copy across the manual install. You did make one, didn't you? 😉

    Referencing that will tell you what the files are & where they are.

    @Eelgoo , I just open the main file and drag and drop the files (runtime people data environment prop ect) into my My DAZ 3D Library that's the way I manually install .

    @itsmenotyou

    I zip up a copy of the files as I manually install them, I call it an Inst file.
    That way I can uninstall easily as I know the names of the relevant files & where they are.
    Also if I decide to re-install I can copy & paste the contents of the inst file.
    It is all detailed in my manual install sticky.

    🙂
