Hi , shouldn't re-posts be clearly marked as a re-post so a person knows it's already been on the site ? and you may already have it in your library. I notice some folks here are re-posting and not marking them as such and in my opinion a re-post should go on the site for free where some of the products are years old and have been in the wild for some time, don't get me wrong I think it's great ppl are re-upping stuff but not to clearly mark them as a re-post and to get pts for something they never purchased themselves...

It should ideally be marked as a Repost or a Re Upload..

I normally add a "(Re Upload)" to the ones I repost, but sometimes it slips the mind.. I think I reposted a few yesterday without the tag..

Im guilty of this myself as I recently uploaded a bunch of "Dead Posts". I wasn't sure if i was supposed to add that tag or if the mods do that after verifying. Because the mods are the ones who add the "New Link" tag after sending new links.

But i'll certainly add the tag to any reviving of Dead Posts, if that is the accepted protocol.

That said, I would still recommend always checking against your own library whether you already have something or not before downloading. Would prevent duplicate downloads and plus even if something is marked as a re-post, you might have missed it the first time around and then skip downloading it.

In any case, I think it's absolutely right that reposts must be correctly recognizable as such. Version numbers should also be given exactly. Example: Auto-Rig Pro (complete or not) - I was a little confused recently. But that is not a reproach.

I think it's fair that new users can get points for updating dead posts. Because if you already have a product, you don't have to buy it again and if you don't, you might even be happy about it. It is also an active contribution and therefore has some value.

Not all dead topics are old and uninteresting and in the end they only bring a few points anyway.

I took the opportunity and since then I have only bought all products here in the forum - regardless of whether they (unfortunately) were available elsewhere shortly afterwards.
In my case, I clearly earned the most points with two products that I bought myself and posted here.

So I think it's better not to be too strict when someone is actively contributing.

@Gerardbie - "Not all dead topics are old..." true, and not all dead posts are actually dead. I think admin needs to identify who is falsely reporting links as dead and give them a good kick up the arse. Why would someone do that? They may also be the ones responsible for getting shares taken down so quickly.

@Frank21 It's sad when people use lousy tricks to gain an advantage even here. I have to honestly say that I hadn't thought of that. Assuming that there are more creative people here who do not work with fraudulent methods.
In this respect, I agree with your opinion that this cannot be allowed under any circumstances. And if the effort is too great to check this in individual cases, the only option left would actually be to turn it off in general, so that honest posters don't lose their point.
Will there ever be a reliable online character quick test to anonymously but safely filter out such people? 🙂

I suppose another reason would be that after reporting a post dead, someone can then re-post it themselves. In that case I'd be matching the name of the false reporter with the re-poster. We could do that ourselves if a "dead" post included the member name of who reported it as dead.

So it would make sense if someone reports a dead post, he can't repost it. then false reports would have less purpose. unless someone uses multiple accounts. maybe it would help to make the access a bit stricter or to add a separate layer for newcomers until they have proven themselves...

At the moment I don't think admin have the time to do that checking. That's why I suggested reported dead posts show the name of who reported it. We could then do that cross-checking ourselves.

I don't think a single person flagging a dead post is the reason they become dead, I think it probably takes much more. When I posted Valkyrie repost the other day and it got flagged and taken down by the host, my emails were flooded with people flagging it here on ZG as a dead link. So it was more than 1 flag for sure. And then it still remained "undead" for a good amount of time until it went dead (I assume a mod tested the link and changed its status as "Dead" until I sent a new link.

That could be the case but that doesn't explain why still live links would be reported as dead. A few days ago I accidently saw a share of mine in the Dead Posts section. I checked the link, DL it and it was still working perfectly, so I got it put back up on the blog with a "new link", which was the same as the old one because it still worked.
Why would multiple people report a live link as dead when it isn't? I think it was just one.

Not sure how many it takes to trigger it "dead" or if it requires manual intervention by a mod to cause it to become dead. Maybe a mod could chime in and verify. But I do know I was flooded with emails saying it was flagged as dead link once the host took the file down, and the post remained up here until later. And I also had a flag or two on an upload that is still working as well (as you did). My link is still working, and it did not become "DEAD" at ZG, even though it had some flags. Sometimes a link doesnt work for someone they may assume its dead, yet its working for everyone else. (Could be a browser issue, ISP, or adblocking script, or sometimes just trying it again a second time works) But first instinct for some people is to just flag it, so that is why i assume a mod needs to force it dead (but until verified might not be true)

It could therefore also be a kind of sabotage, which could definitely be considered. There are creators who stay cool even when there's a lot going on. Because they also recognize the advertising value and are intelligent enough to know that, at the latest, rights will be acquired in any case with commercial use. In addition, then also extended, i.e. more profitable forms of usage rights.
And maybe there are a few who are nervous. these are usually the ones who either stole and were never really creative themselves, or who doubt themselves.
