Yeah, that's an STL model. It's basically all one piece. I'd have to model it by hand, from scratch, but I could use his a template. Still have to texture and UV map it. 😉
Question: While I like the Hatchetman, myself, there's a list of almost an entire regiment of mechs that are already modeled, UV'ed and textured to choose from?
Once I get Daz's rigging under control, I'll be able to get them out on the regular.
Why the push with the Hatchetman?
April 19, 2019 at 4:44 AM #1045728I found a Hatchetman that was in pieces. Should be easier to build a model off of. I don't have Flashpoint yet, so I won't be able to rip the model, if I ever figure out how to add assets to Unity.
April 19, 2019 at 6:58 AM #1045820Very good prospects for your Mech production line ! I hope you will include the cockpit (even if independent from the base Mech) there are opportunities for great battle renders POV. I have a full company of heroes to pilot them into battle. We will have to prepare decals for the various houses and regiments.
April 19, 2019 at 7:13 AM #1045856Yeah.... Thanks to Dashi and him pointing me towards STL files, we should have a complete regiment of Mechs now. It's a mixture of Clan and IS, but it's still a regiment.
Got some dropships and vehicles too. 😉
I'm gonna be busy for a while.
April 19, 2019 at 7:58 AM #1045897Yeah, I just checked. The internal cockpits don't fit inside the cockpits of the mechs themselves....
As a former game modeler, that's REALLY bad design on PGI.
April 19, 2019 at 9:39 AM #1046040Oh, I only brought it up because it wasn't a mech from MWO so it wasn't on the list.
The Vehicles from Btech might also be a good idea. God knows I'd like to have a Leopard!
As for the STI file, they actually made it from the base extract so I was suggesting PMing the guy and asking for the original he used to make the STI is all. Sorry if I was not clear.
April 19, 2019 at 4:30 PM #1046453I'm pretty sure that is a pull from the HBS game. I'm not sure if they're like PGI and allow the use of their models for rendering and non-commercial art projects. I'd feel better making my own model off the STL file so I can release it under creative commons.
Me, personally, I LOVE the new style of Battlemechs thanks to PGI. Apparently Catalyst doesn't like them. Any new mech created by PGI isn't canon and their mech designs aren't either, which is ironic, considering PLOG is making his designs, as are every one else on the Art team for BT, similar in style to PGI's mechs.
April 19, 2019 at 7:12 PM #1046688I updated the first post with a current list of mechs, vehicles and dropships that I could eventually convert to Daz Studio.
April 20, 2019 at 12:39 PM #1047649I like the 75-85 pound classes. Maurader / Battle Master, Ironic ones like the Warhammer are a must.
April 20, 2019 at 3:20 PM #1047809Yeah, some of the mechs will require retexturing and rebuilding (I just finished building the Wasp and Stinger models). *ALL* of the Vehicles will require retexturing and rebuilding. If it's in the "needs to be converted" section, assume it needs to be remodeled and textured.
Basically, I need people to request a standard lance (1 Light, 2 mediums and 1 Heavy/Assault) based on House/Faction of choice and I'll start assembling them. I should have png files of all the House/Faction logos. I'll have to check. If not, I'll request copies of the logos, 'cos I'll have to create them in Illustrator, so they'll have alpha channels.
The GOOD news is with all the PGI mechs, I figured out what the RGB files are for. They're the color variants. I stripped out the individual color values and tested them on the Locust. This also means that I can pull all the variant files from the PGI files so we can have multiple color variants.
Each mech will come with Variant builds based off my Technical Readouts and cross referenced with Sarna.net. I plan on basing the initial mechs off the 4th Succession War, so between 3025-3050. That's my favorite timeline - I was a Davion fan, until Victor took over, at which I jumped ship to Liao.
*IF* you want a specific mech from another timeline, just ask and I'll see if I can't kitbash it for you.
Concerning the Elemental.... I found an old model of it. It's not bad, but I'll need to remodel it, UV it, texture it and build color schemes. This will be a G3/G8 model and maybe more. It will be based off the Massive morphs. This will be one of the last ones I do, since it will require actual weight painting.
April 21, 2019 at 1:22 AM #1048389Don't make the elemental armor actually based on a morph.
Just have it hide everything but the head when equipped.
April 21, 2019 at 1:34 AM #1048410
This is why I said Massive or Swole. Elemental pilots are supposed to be 'roiders.
April 21, 2019 at 1:44 AM #1048426I know, but just hiding the body while they're in armor makes it simpler, avoids the complete mess that is the twisting and bending issues with hard armor in daz, and allows you to rescale and re-use it more easily.
April 21, 2019 at 4:31 AM #1048583Honesty I dont remember much about the houses.
The 2 that come to mind are Liao and Dragoons.
I seem to recall liking Dragoons for some reason.
Not sure they are even an actual house.Id like to see a maurader, battle master, zeuss . Don't what house.
April 21, 2019 at 5:48 AM #1048643Dragoons were a mercenary company. They were actually a scout group for the Clans, to assess the Inner Sphere before the Clan Invasion.
