Any Battletech fans out there?
It's just a proof of concept to see if it's possible. I'd have to rig the model in Daz, as it doesn't like my Maya rig, but the template for the textures look nice so far in iRay.
Anyone interested? I won't bother, if people weren't interested, but I want to learn Daz's rigging tools.

Can you get a Hunchback 4G 🙂
April 14, 2019 at 8:12 PM #1039217I like that humble Mech, a Locust is very fine for raiding and recco (and the Clan version is badass).
However nothing can beat (visually I mean) a Marauder or an Awesome (when they happen on the battlefield, it s time to move...fast) (in the boardgame version at least).
By the Way I am a Marik dignitary... Choose your words when you speak BTian...April 14, 2019 at 8:14 PM #1039218Clearly I am House Liao, by choosing a humble Locust. 😉
I pulled all of these from MWO. I have them all rigged in Maya, but Daz is a different beast. Go figure they couldn't make rigging as simple as it is in just about every other 3D program out there.
April 14, 2019 at 8:15 PM #1039220Piranha only made the IS and IIc versions, but it wouldn't be hard to make from kit bashing. 😉 I made a Razorback that way.
April 14, 2019 at 8:17 PM #1039223RIG THEM! RIG THEM ALL!
April 14, 2019 at 8:37 PM #1039243Sounds good to me.
Work your way up to a Timberwolf 😉
April 14, 2019 at 8:49 PM #1039251Well....
There are no guarantees that I can figure out Daz's clumsy, archaic way of rigging models. So far, it's a complete PITA. It looks like I'll be having to export each piece individually. -_-
April 14, 2019 at 9:06 PM #1039269It might require patience & walking away & doing something else every so often. :0/
April 14, 2019 at 10:27 PM #1039365Played battle tech for awhile and mech warrior. Marauder was my favorite and also looked cool in the Macross episodes even though it was robotech then.
Still have most of the books. Think the older ones were pulled because of copyright issues but not sure. So I just kept them just in case. never play anymore so was considering selling them but they probably aren't worth much. As well as Dr.Who, Vampire, Marvel, Champions, Shadow Run, War Hammer,Star Wars, and a few others Ive forgotten sitting in my book case.
Watch Robot-Jox if you havent already. Kinda low budget movie but its pretty cool if you go in understanding its old and cheap. Has clan elements in it.
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0102800/There's also a movie called soldier thats not bad. Reminds me a bit of the clan but no mechs.

Gattaca

Not going to state the obvious new mech movies.April 15, 2019 at 2:53 AM #1039569Yes! Battletech was the greatest mech game on tabtetop back in the 90's.
April 15, 2019 at 3:53 AM #1039627Well, I've got weight mapping down. It's still a PITA. I wish I didn't blow all my spending money buying shaders and Kits for a game project I was working on. Otherwise, I could have spent it on this:

-_-
Typical. I love kitbashing mechs.
April 15, 2019 at 5:20 AM #1039694You can check youtube for a free tutorial.
April 15, 2019 at 5:31 AM #1039706Ever consider converting the FO4/76 Power Armors to Daz? Be nice to have some heavy metal options.
April 15, 2019 at 5:34 AM #1039710That's a trailer. I already know how to rig a mech in Maya. Daz is totally different and while I've taught myself how to weight paint in it, I still have a long way to go to get objects fully poseable. Silly, if you ask me. Daz would be a lot more popular if it followed industry standards. I always hated how shitty Poser was and Daz is a lot better, at least, when I first started playing with it.
I loathe the fact they took out IK handles and Control Curves. They were in the 2.X version. I remember them, which was why I was okay with using it. Now, it's so kludgy. I get they make money off the assets, but someone like me, that can make models will shy away from it, since it's a different learning curve. Add in that you can't use their proprietary rigs for your own characters and you can't just pull in your own rigs with weights painted, it's another thorn for someone like me.
I could have this model fully rigged in 15-20 minutes in Maya and an additional 10-15 minutes for HumanIK mapping of my own control curves.
