I consider your toddler's art the only genuine piece of artwork that isn't derivative. All the rest are influenced by what and those who came before them so they aren't original pieces. Learning and following artistic rules and techniques is in itself plagiarism, and skill and effort doesn't produce an artwork, a pretty picture perhaps. In fact trying too hard to be an "artist" can do the opposite if you have little to communicate in the first place.

Supposedly art is the expression of ones self in some form. At least that's what I see it as. Theres probably an "art", talent or skill to drifting a car or playing chess. I just personally dont believe there is an art for letting something else make decisions for you. Its like watching a football game and taking credit for your team winning. WTF did you do other than watch? Yelling catch the ball at a TV is about as inventive as allowing a computer to picking random pixels out of billions of lines of information then suggesting you accomplish something. It's pretty, it's cool, it looks impressive but please dont pound your chest and howl how great you are and look what I did. Anyone can do it. Most are already doing it. Not everyone could compose music but now with a few clicks and you're Mozart. It undermines true talent and may eventually replace what makes us inventive and human.

I use to remember phone numbers.
Planned trip routes and remember exit numbers. Now I have everyone on a phone list and cant even remember my wife's number. I Google search for addresses and let Google maps lead the way. Before that it was Garmin. Now we've resorted to letting AI make art. We need to remember nothing, plan nothing and contemplate nothing.

    Welcome to the future

I agree with most of that Adam. AI is making "art" accessible to those who would otherwise not attempt a visual form of expression, and I guess also many who shouldn't if their only intent is to make a pretty picture. Albeit as Legolas says AI does leave room for induvial manipulation to produce the final product. The test lies in the question "What are you trying to communicate with this image", and if one can't answer that then it ain't art, as art as all about communicating ideas, feelings and experiences. The Mona Lisa is apparently magnificent art but I think it's crap and it leaves me cold. A child's art on the other hand is original, personal, uncorrupted and genuine and they can explain the purpose and meaning in great detail.
"The girl I like. Boy and for the girl hooray for. Here is a jump for joy. No no I like it" Ana doesn't have much English but she can communicate her ideas through art that shits on most of the stuff I see.

@frank22 I fed the line "The girl I like. Boy and for the girl hooray for. Here is a jump for joy. No no I like it" into Flux, just to see what it would make of it, and, after a few minutes of blood oozing out the sides of my computer, this is what it spat out.

I think I prefer the original.

I'm with you on the Mona Lisa. Its one of the most bland, lifeless, wooden portraits Ive seen on a canvas. Id definitely rather look at kids art. It usually give you a good feeling even if it isn't a masterpiece. Ive seen some really cool AI art. Stuff that makes me go wow that's fkin amazing. The problem is when I reflect on how it was made and what created it.

While this looks cool, its probably sets beside AI at the bottom of the art ladder.
You can be an artist by dumping paint it a cup and spinning the canvas. Let centrifugal force do all the work for you. If you dont like the outcome just spin again.

Im sure it was difficult to spin the canvas just right and to dump the paint into the cup in just the right quantity.

Im not particularly gifted with great artistic talent and AI should be something I latch on to and ride out but in most cases I hate it. Not saying its not useful and has decent applications if used in moderation but I just cant fully accept it.
Unfortunately its going to replace a lot of people.
