Okay, Legolas18, the real question on my mind right now is do you feel that 3demon is wrong or right here? I can't tell from your last comment.
I'm just teasing you of course. On a completely different subject. Did you know that Legolas is not actually a character made of Legos as some might imagine? He's a character from Harry Potter. Just kidding, he's originally from the Shannara series and was later stolen by J.R.R. Tolkien when he was writing the original Star Wars prequels. Though to be honest if you're really into Legolas, I highly recommend Legolas19. A much more polished revision than the 18 series, which I found a bit contrived for my tastes. The overall improvements in the 19 model could be seen best when he first premiered in the 8th season of Game of Thrones. Which everyone knows is the best. Anyway. I'm getting off track. What I'm really trying to say is, dwarves are sexier than elves. It's all about the beards you know.
Wait, what were we talking about?
December 10, 2020 at 10:13 PM #1648997Seriously? C'mon I put a lot of heart into my comment. Did you even read the whole thing? It's supposed to make you laugh. I'm disappointed.
December 10, 2020 at 11:01 PM #1648998legolas18 I wouldn't have quoted you if you hadn't said it. Here it is again: "In this way, freeloaders will struggle to make silly requests “for 25 points” (yes I’ve read that too!), and will actually push them to actually share stuff or stay off the requests threads." [Emphasis mine]
That and: "Let the brainstorming begin". And then you childishly request the thread be closed because someone asks for clarification or disagrees.
Of course, you could have taken the effort to explain your proposition better. But that would require an adult.
December 10, 2020 at 11:52 PM #1649013C'mon folks...
It is an interesting debate.
People are entitled to their opinions.
Keep it cool 'n' civil.
🙂
December 11, 2020 at 12:18 AM #1649015I think one of the things to remember and it has been said. I'm just re-wording it a little bit. For those of us who do contribute, 150 points isn't really worth much. If you have that small amount of points, it's best that you save them for downloading the stuff that's posted for everyone. After you've posted a few items, you get to a point level where anything less than 500 really isn't worth the effort to send out the PMs. That in no way means we don't want people who have low points to participate in the site. We absolutely do. We want you to use your points to get things you want and we want you to post and participate in discussions and the art contests.
However, when you decide to make the plunge and purchase an expensive item, 150 points isn't going to get you excited to share it. So, if you really want an item that isn't on the site already, then save up your points for a few days and then post your request once you have the 500 to offer, or whatever the minimum ends up being.
December 11, 2020 at 8:42 AM #1649079Hi. I'm new here but I suppose I can give my opinion too, right? From my point of view -and this being a sharing site- the thing about certain items only be shared privately, well... I know it's up to the "owner" but I don't like how that sounds like.
I've been in other sites and been sharing goodies outta there (some of them, are in this blog so it's great, really). In the past I also thought that way about only sharing with people I'd want but after that I realized that it was a bit hypocrite. C'mon, you're in a site where you've download for free a lot, why to be that way? Try to share as much as you can for the times you download till your HD was bleeding badly (lol).
I don't know if it's the Xmas time or so but I feel that we should really worry more about sharing instead of thinking on "it could end somewhere".

And now talking about minimum? Well, I understad what Legolas said (and others too) but thinking a bit deeper, is there a really big difference between making 500/1000 points entry mandatory? I mean, let's suppose I buy 10.000 points (about 50$) only to participate on 10 requests... I can think about that money being spent in I don't know, a hair and a clothing? For ex.
By the way I will try to fill some few spots this and the next week, been a rough whirlwind these days.
December 11, 2020 at 12:20 PM #1649118These threads always end the same. 4 or 5 pages in, it gets personal, people start taking pot shots at each other, nothing gets resolved and (almost) nothing changes.
Torrents at least forced people to share bandwidth in order to get things. That was the beauty of KAT. Everyone had at least some skin in the game. Plus, KAT existed in a different time when 3D modeling for the common man was still taking off from its relative infancy. Back then, it seemed that folks had a different mindset about sharing. Now, it seems to be more self-centered for both those who give and those who take.
Know this: zonegfx is the best site around for getting content. There are many sites that will leech from here and offer most of the same content within a day or two with great download options and require no points. But if this site ever goes away, the amount of items that get out into the wild will be noticeably decreased.
Sharers are the backbone. They should be treated as such imo.
December 12, 2020 at 10:01 PM #1649463The main problem is to enforce people to upload stuff. The minimum amount for a request is a good idea, but it is technically impossible to make it mandatory.
Another solution would be to allow to post anything in the request forum only for people that have a minimal number of points. I do not know how much probably something between 2k and 10k points. The amount should be low enough to not restraint too much the request forum access, but with a number of points that can be reached mostly by uploaders. The main advantage of this solution is that is can be implemented in the site software, instead of relying on a gentleman agreement to decline too low point offers.December 12, 2020 at 10:15 PM #1649469Well, about share and that. I agree. I made my two fist shares the moment I could since I benefit from this site and the content, simple as that.
And to be fair (and talking in general and not about this site) I find it rather strange that some users being in these places like for years, still haven't bought a single thing from their own pocket and share with the community. I also know it's not the better time and certainly the times are rough for all, etc but c'mon, 20$ in 3 month is something you cannot save? really? Sorry, I don't buy that shit.
How can we fight against this? Well I think it's more about "education", know where you are (in terms of sites/sharing places), etc. And that's not at thing you can get with only a bit of measures.
BTW I'm happy I've found this community. 🙂
EDIT:
I said this some days ago:
"And now talking about minimum? Well, I understad what Legolas said (and others too) but thinking a bit deeper, is there a really big difference between making 500/1000 points entry mandatory? I mean, let’s suppose I buy 10.000 points (about 50$) only to participate on 10 requests… I can think about that money being spent in I don’t know, a hair and a clothing? For ex."
I can answer myself now. Ok, there's no big difference between 150-250-500 or even 1000 points BUT, taking how easy you get points here (buying/sharing items <- MAIN THING HERE or buying points isolated), I can agree about a minimum 500 poinst but not for efficiency, mostly cause "respect" to the buyer. If points were much harder to win, OK but right now I can see why some people are filling spots with 500 points min. I'm thinking on doing the same but that's just an opinion. And as always, after a while (at least me) I will drop items to blog so... Everybody happy.
December 19, 2020 at 3:46 AM #1650961I feel that this is that zemlon thread all over again.
People come to a pirate site and feel entitled to products that don't belong to them. I have seen people speaking ill of other sites just because they get their content from here (as if people didn't upload here from other pirate sites as well).I think it's great to have other sites with the same content. some time ago 3dload.net went under for some time, so I came back here to get itens. What if zonegfx went under (could happen) for some time as well? If it was the only site available, where would we get content?
You guys talk like if we had these minimum requests people would buy and share stuff, when in reality most of them will not do that (either because they don't want to, or cant do it due to economical problems), so they would rather be without the item. Yes, some people just leech, that's the way it is.
Having these minimum requests will only drive people away from the site, and that's how the site dies.
Don't like the 0~200 point offer? How about just ignore it? Just don't send the item to those guys.
In the same way that piracy can help people that make the original product, leechers can help the site and people that upload stuff. We need to learn to be less greedy.
December 19, 2020 at 4:40 AM #1650963Got no problem with having a minimum points for the requests. If i want something I will offer a big bounty to entice someone else to get the idea. Quite often I have brought a few days (or week later). Lately, I've cut down my DAZ spending to virtually zero due to some personal stuff. Heck, I've got some items which I should upload - but been busy with other stuff.
December 19, 2020 at 5:27 AM #1650964Hmm, I've skimmed through this so I'll also add my two cents to things. If we're talking "in the spirit of sharing" even adding a minimum points doesn't necessarily equate to more sharing.
I currently have a request out for an item totaling 3K points. Not a lot, but it's more than 500. You might look at that and know what I'm talking about and know that the request has already been filled. Cool. Therein lies the problem. It's already been filled, for like 3 weeks at this point, but it's not available on the blog.
You might say to just go PM the person that filled it. I'm not doing that. That's not how this is supposed to work. If I'm just going to solicit people for private deals what's the point of me, or anybody, ever sharing anything publicly? More to the point, if I was a member that frequently shared things I would get annoyed to no end if people randomly pm'd me asking "Hey, can I still get in on 'x' item for 'x' points" weeks/months after the request has been filled. Once something has been filled, that's it for me. I'm not asking anybody for nothing, period. If they don't want to share it publicly that's cool, that's none of my damn business. I'll just make my own request and get it that way. But again, that's really not how this is supposed to work.
If you wanted to speak on "in the spirit of sharing" then they should make a system that still uses points but also limits downloads. The more you share, the more downloads you have a day. Downloads shouldn't add up like points and if you don't use your daily download then you lose it/them for the day. It's not perfect, but neither is the current system. *shrugs*
December 19, 2020 at 8:28 AM #1650983wow. what a stingy group of people. Everyone here is a leech even if you've spent actual money to purchase an item. This is a pirate site. Don't fool yourselves into thinking differently and go all high and mighty. What difference does it make how much someone offers? None. If you don't want to share for that price, don't. Oh wait. You want to regulate requests because you want a guaranteed amount of points for yourselves . You know what? That 150pts is more than what you had before it was offered.
December 19, 2020 at 9:04 AM #1650984If this was just another pirate site it would be more stagnant like the others. As pointed out by people whom have been doing 3D for years, this is the source for most newly available pirated content. Why is that? It has to be the points system.
Points need to have value. Even if it is only perceived value.
Without some degree of exclusivity, with some stuff not shared to the blog it loses a lot of that perceived value. Yes that's a contradiction to what I would like to see, but giving people what they want, myself included, isn't necessarily a good thing. If everyone got what they wanted in life, it would accelerate the end of the species exponentially. But that's another topic. If everything was shared to the blog I suspect we would see a whole lot less new stuff being traded which does eventually and inevitably get shared to the blog.
Starting as a newbie, points matter. It gives you the convenience to quickly download something here where it is available now, and the security of using MEGA for your downloads from the blog. And for everybody playing by the rules, you can save some for the occasional request. But, for our main sharers that have graduated beyond that, by sharing stuff, accumulated tons of points to the point where the perceived value of points have sharply declined having spent real money to get there. What's in it for them? Naturally they will want to see more interesting items being uploaded/shared/traded by other people too. Which is good everybody here right?
For the purpose of a comparison; raising the minimum points for a request is a step in the right direction because it adds value to points. They become more scarce.
Offering or paying points for free stuff is no-no because it devalues points. The contrast is clear.December 19, 2020 at 9:59 AM #1650989@legolas18 Why though? If people offer at least 100 points it is more than purchasing it directly from the blog. Why are you so upset about it? Is it better if it's 0 points instead? 100 is 100 and some people only have that much to give. If the person who is buying and sharing the product decides not to give the person with 100 points the product then that's his own decision, but making a rule for minimum of 500 points is outrageous. Reconsider your position kindly, please. Thanks.
