@inversekinematics Blender seems to work for most modellers, but it has always frustrated me, whereas ZBrush seems far easier and intuitive.
@eelgoo If people simply want to pose and animate, Daz does the job (although dForce often leaves a lot o be desired) But, it could well do with an upgrade for those of us who are looking for more. 🙂
@legolas18 I agree to a great extent with you.July 17, 2024 at 8:32 PM #2083582DAZ needs to use or allow to use a better rendering engine OR Iray needs to update Iray for DAZ to do more realistic renderings.
It's NOT optional. If DAZ is going to keep up in the future, the correct word is NEEDS.
They keep touting a new AI-Enabled DAZ... well, DAZ should prioritize incorporating AI to determine how real scenes look, to properly light and render scenes from the camera angle being used, distance, room or location, etc... And then render it. Some people like to control their own lighting, so using AI should be optional of course. But most people are not experts in lighting, and even the people who think they are, are not, because I dont see a whole lot of realism being produced by them.
July 17, 2024 at 10:10 PM #2083595July 17, 2024 at 10:40 PM #2083601Not everyone wants realism and/but I agree Daz has been pushing that angle very hard for a long time, particularly with G9 and its 8K textures. There's still quite a dedicated toon crowd at Daz but very slim pickings for them as far as new resources go.
July 17, 2024 at 11:21 PM #2083609That's true that not everyone wants realism. But lots of people DO. LOTS! And if they don't get it with DAZ they will surely move on to other softwares that do offer it.
If they plan to survive and stay relevant in the near future, they need to move forward.
The world doesnt NEED another genesis version, especially one with benefits over previous versions that are so small. That's not gonna keep them afloat.July 17, 2024 at 11:23 PM #2083610They talk about realism, but have poorly developed body mesh & rigging, and then they push fantasy wear?

I admit I'm also one of the realism crowd and that's what I did. Haven't used DS or had it installed since April last year. It's not even so much about realism per se as I also make a lot of non-real images. It's more about producing natural-looking (probably the wrong word) pics that don't have that 3D-model uncanny look, where clothing, lighting etc. looks more "natural". Granted that AI also has it's own particular uncanny look but after 20+ years of working with 3D it's been a nice change, though I do feel like a bit of a traitor.July 18, 2024 at 2:34 AM #2083623@frank22 I am the same way, I took a long break from DAZ once I started messing with Stabile Diffusion. Just started recently with DAZ again, finding ways to make the 2 work together. There's a lot of pro's and con's of each. Skin CAN actually look good and realistic in DAZ, but it's a chore to achieve it sometimes. Custom skins are a must. SD also has good skins and lighting built in. But the thing with SD is most of the skin seems to lack detail and have an airbrushed look, even though it looks very real because of the great lighting, after really looking at it for months, you start to see they are all the same with different shades. No small details like wrinkles, hand and feet details are always wrong, etc.
A future DAZ can fix that, make the skins have the same kind of look as SD while also keeping the parts DAZ are already good at, like all the fine details, greater pose controls, etc.
They need to do it before the opposite happens: SD becomes good at the things DAZ is currently good at. Because then they are toast. Why would anyone want to buy assets when they could just type in a prompt and get it for free, if the quality and details are the same now?
July 18, 2024 at 2:59 AM #2083626Not to mention that SD assets are free and the variety of them, and the flexibility of what you can do with each of them, leaves Daz dead in the water. It's also relatively easy, and again free, to make your own characters without worrying about morphs and compatibility issues. If Daz don't pull their socks up they'll go the way of AltaVista and Video Ezy.
July 18, 2024 at 4:14 AM #2083629Daz doesn't need to do more, it just needs things it already does easier to do to remain relevant which is a doll house for grown ups. Bring physics to modern standard and I will likely rebuild my Daz library and buying assets again. It's gonna be years for SD model and UI to offer the kind of control that a real doll house can offer, however, UE5 can probably displace Daz right now if it wishes...

I'll predict it won't be more than 12 months before AI will be able to make renders completely indistinguible from photography, perhaps also videos. It's 90% that way already. But I don't know if that's actually a good thing.July 18, 2024 at 7:37 AM #2083649I think if daz were to also use AI-assisted technologies, it would be a huge leap forward:
There is an ai-assisted technique for handling hair, allowing realistic movements of thousands of hair with minimal computational impact.
The same can be said for rendering gases, particles, metallic flakes, fluid simulations, etc.
July 18, 2024 at 9:21 AM #2083655A limited amount of AI assist might be beneficial, but I think most want to retain control for repeatability & continuity reasons alone.

July 18, 2024 at 9:33 AM #2083657AI assisted technologies would allow that. They are merely used to save computational power because they are used in a predictive capacity, so they are not used to actually render stuff.
July 18, 2024 at 10:46 AM #2083662@Inversekinematics papers published by Nvidia mostly. 🙂
There is even a yt channel that keeps up with AI and 3d rendering/simulation advances called 2 minute papers.
