    When G9 was first released, my initial reaction to it was one of disappointment, as it appeared that Daz had done nothing more than revamp and update the old Genesis figure. It was, I thought, a real step backward, as I would have much preferred an overhaul of Studio itself as opposed to yet another base figure, when G8 was perfectly fine.

    However, now that the dust has settled, I have to admit that the G9 male characters are better sculpted, have more unique features and are far more realistic looking than most of their G8/8.1 counterparts, which - save for a few - have always looked too generic to me.

    Having said that, I still think that G9 feminine is sub par. The body is far too blocky and the neck too short and - as in the case of G8/8.1 males - far too generic looking; as too many of them have ''same face syndrome'' regardless of who sculpted them.

    Does anyone else feel the same? Has anyone else revised their opinions on G9?

    To add that genesis 9 feminine, have very manly military/police/tactical/ clothes. there are is also no low ponytails yet for genesis 9 females which prevents me to add a helmet or anything without the hair or hair tail to pop out of the helmet

    @Meowth594 Really, no low ponytails yet? I'd have thought that'd be one of the first hairstyles created, as it's a very basic style. It's always annoying when you can't find a suitable asset for your scene.

    I've often searched endlessly for clothes, hair or accessories that I would have that were no brainer every day things, only to find that the closest I can get to what I'm looking for are fifteen year old assets for M4 or V4. Yet with G8 and G9, you have demon horns, tails, hooves, etc in abundance - hardly everyday human features.

    I'm know I'm sounding like a broken record (you have to be of a certain age to understand that reference) but that's why I'm still mostly using Vicky Fourpointtwoplusplus.

    Nope.

    If anything, I am becoming even more entrenched against it!

    @ethiopia I'll always be a devotee of Vicky and Mike and their wonderful, imaginative, extensive catalogue of clothing, hair, accessories, etc, but in terms of the newer generations, I have to say that G9 masculine is growing on me. I love the fact that so many of the models have the sort of male faces that look - well - ordinary. Even the ''handsome/beautiful G9'' men aren't the unrealistic, Ken doll like types of all previous generations. That being said; their were exceptions when it came to M4. But, from Genesis 2 up to the G8, the majority of male characters were either, big, buff, chisel jawed, ''gym bro'' types, delicate elfin, pointed ear characters, or boyband lookalikes. I'm actually loving the G9 male characters, such as Caesar, Hector, Marius, Chris, Jean-Pierre,CB Ethan, Marcus and Julius because they are devoid of that doll like perfection.

    As I said; I don't feel anywhere near as enthusiastic with regard to G9 feminine, who appear to have been cursed with that same face syndrome.

    @eelgoo
    I still share your sentiments where G9 fem is concerned, but have you tried out some of the newer G9 masc characters?

    @reinecarola
    I can't say I have, but then I don't use male characters that often & am fairly content with the options I have.
    There are some good M4s, I didn't think M6 & M7 were that bad either.
    TBH, especially considering the likely lack of use it would get, I would rather avoid installing G9 bloat.

    @eelgoo I love the male characters. SAV aka Joanna (RIP) used to make some amazing characters for M4. I get that a lot of Daz/Poser users play around with the female characters more, but I like a good balance of both, as I love recreating famous (and not so famous) artworks using Daz models. Which is why I'm on a constant crusade to accrue all the historically accurate costumes, hair and accessories as I can. Sadly, there are too few, so I'm teaching myself to use Marvelous Designer, so I can make my own. 🙂

    The G9 males are surprisingly cool, though. Unlike the blocky looking females.

    my main concern with G8 male chars is the bending distortions that appear at every junction. Yes, I prefer G9 males than G8 males

    @1138adrianmartinez Now that you mention it, I have noticed that problem with G8M too. I feel that with G8, the PAs put all of their efforts into carefully creating their female characters and neglect the males. Although, I think the same is true in reverse when it comes to G9.

    @Inversekinematics I agree with you in relation to your views on the cross gen figure, which I believe has somewhat sacrificed the aesthetics of the feminine base for convenience sake. On the plus side, however, as I have said, I do like the male characters, as the overall male shape seems to compliment the base far better than its feminine counterpart.

    All in all, though, we could have done without G9, and Daz could simply have improved on the existing figures. But, what they really should have put their efforts into was Studio 5.0 - that's the upgrade we needed. But, being the pragmatic person that I am, I'm just here making metaphorical lemonade from the G9 release. 🙂

    I’m starting to use G9 models more over G8 now.

    If there’s something that looks bad or not right on a model, I just export and make changes in mudbox then re-import. My only problem was clothing, having both M & F mixed made it more of a task when looking for clothing for a specific sex. So, I ended up sorting them into separate folders. Problem solved. (Or maybe stop hording so much clothing is another solution.)

    I don’t have any worthy complaints with G9. Issues I do come across I tend to resolve by making modifications when needed. Or maybe I’m just an adaptive person…

    Phoenix1966 did decent male characters.

    @Kelsie332 I find myself using G8M less and less, even though I still prefer G8 Female to the G9 counterpart.
    Yeah, the clothes situation is an issue alright. I should have thought of having separate folders too.

    How user friendly is Mudbox? I've been learning ZBrush on and off for a while and its interface was a little hard to get used to.

    @eelgoo
    Yeah Phoenix1966 has some good characters. There was another PA over at RDNA (may its memory be a blessing lol) who used to make great M4 characters, but I can't, for the life of me remember his name now.

    Tempesta has had their moments of inspiration.

    Faber was another IIRC.
