@Tootsie I'm just trying to think of solutions to prevent future upheaval/exaggerated complaining from members over mistaken posts. If there's anything that will prevent me from caring about this site and the administration, it's comments like you just posted, which I feel do nothing to solve anything.
Anyway, this site has left a bad taste in my mouth with some of the members' mob mentality (burn the witches!) and then the throwing under the bus when someone is attempting to put some things into perspective regarding the points system, and offer up a few solutions (there were two new members that came out and said they were confused about the wording on the site 'create post' ).
There are many other ways to get content either than ZoneGFX if people look hard enough (like closed free groups that I'm a part of, that open up once in a while), and none of it requires any sort of point system which I think may be clouding the natural creative community of sharing and respect. I regret making any posts at all and will give my remaining points to random new members I see appear, and be on my way @Tootsie
(Also just to clarify I thought Tootsie was admin at first, thought they said 'us admin' whoops read too fast)
There is a free section to post if sharing is all that is wanted. I considered posting any new items there and avoid the point system totally.
The points are there for nothing more than fun. most if not all content will make it to other forums quickly so points are basically worthless if content cant be kept here.
I usually suggest to people that have thin skin go someplace other than the internet. A little safe room with a tv and order in so as not to interact with the public.
This is a den of thieves and some of those are theives of thieves. I see most as having an odd view of what is right and wrong. Ive been here only a few months and learned the rules. It a lot funner than KAT or some elitist bullshit group that believe themselves superior and for a asses only group. I show my assness proudly. Ive no need to hide it behind closed doors.
All I ask for is that if you download you should upload.

I'm not at all about 'splitting hairs', I keep it real. And honestly, I don't give a rat's ass about points prices... I care deeply about us all keeping a happy healthy community here on this site. For one, nobody has outright accused you or anyone of cheating our system, but then Shakespeare's "Thou doth protest too much methinks" comes to mind.People need to stop treating other members like they are breaking the law when all of you complaining about this technically already are.
That's pretty thin. Yes, we are all pirates here. That's the point. This is also a place provided by someone for our use, and it has its own simple, lenient set of rules for its participants, otherwise none of this works. Then what? I suppose you go back to your exclusive closed scene circles you mentioned, and be happier there? I don't think you'll break any hearts if you found the door, but then you wouldn't raise any hackles by staying either, if you cared enough to understand Zone's upload procedures and policies. It's not hard.
And yes, I clicked... but not until Hunter fixed your post to be the 50 points for appropriated content, and not the initial 500 for Custom Content. =^-^= Thanks for the upload, that's what we do here!Just to touch on your other suggestion, about uploaders setting their own "price"... if you are really an adventurer of The Scene, you know that any circle, especially torrent groups, set the 'economy' via a ratio... you need to bring in at least as much, if not more, than you scrape. Every torrent sharing group has a Required Ratio, and many upload groups have contribution quotas. Zone is no different, in that the rate of points earnings constitutes a ratio of upload:leach. Allowing the uploaders to set their own rates like an MMO trade game will result in stagnation of economy, where only those who can best game the system will share and acquire anything. #themoreyouknow
Andfor the record, I agree with @errilhl that the Zone UI is far less than optimal; but then again that's a function of this being a WordPress blog. If it were a pure website, the UI could/would be far more linear and sensible, I'm sure. I think though that with some good input from the users, the Admin could make a decent stab at cleaning up a rough edge here and there. 😀 IMHO it works pretty good, once you become familiar with the odd thing here and there... and mostly, READ THE FAQ and all that! Really guys, there's not much excuse for not understanding the upload procedure, or the points system. they're pretty simple... moreso than the posting glitches you have to remember, like blockquoting in-zone links :p
@illithod It is not mob mentality, this place is very easy to understand if you read the faq and go through the forums and see what the site is about underneath the straight sharing of files. Our admin have made, not just a sharing site, but a community where people can get help, show their talents etc. All new people should read the faq, read the pinned posts in the forum, along with other forum posts, see what is going on. Any questions, just ask, some one is always going to help.
The splash screen when you first come to the site before logging in tells you what custom content is. Upload your own custom model, model should be customized. To most people I am sure that does not mean something straight out the box from elsewhere.
The majority of people that contribute to the site, this place is not just a share site, it is a mainly happy community of artists who are too broke to pay the exorbitant prices of an expensive hobby getting together and helping each other out. Your shares are appreciated, the same as everyone else's shares are.
Our admin work hard here for no reward, other than a thanks, you guys are awesome, had to get that in because they give up their time for this place just because they are the ones behind the door doing a lot of work.
I would never walk into some ones house and tell them I don't like this, you should change to what I think you should do, would you? Going into a site and telling them they should change it, is the same thing.
Like @amberkat I say it how I see it. I don't dance around with the gentle touch, if it offended you, that was not my intention, my intention was that you get to know the site, understand how it works, chat with other members in the forums, not just to come and say you should do this and that.Rank:
I posted someplace I thought we should be able to set point cost and edit links.
If we set point cost at 1000 + and gave 100 poinrs for eveey download, content would be a little harder to download.
This would make sister sites have to upload or buy points to take content. Also being able to change links would force them to host their own links.
I believe they started confirming accounts to reduce bogus accounts but thats a bandaid. We need a full overhaul and its not something I see happening.
It would be easy to turn this into KAT by just posting everything in the free section. Award special medals signatures and avatars for uploads but keep everything point free. Current point holders could turn in points for something, idea input is welcome.
Stars can be awarded for contests won. You could pay out points for downloads but not charge for them. These points could go to buy a new item that has a point cost and will be held for a few weeks before release.
I didn't realize that this thread has now become a forum for people to tell Hunter how his site should be run

The internet is a medium in which everyone know how to do things better than someone else. Just like making smart comments and directing people to thinks they should have already read.
If it wasn't broke why did the points change? obviously it was something to shake the bushes to get opinion. Absolutely nothing on this planet is perfect but, sharing ideas ans opinions is what forums are about. This is the information age until we reach AI and we are no longer needed or we create a black hole in the center of the Earth with dark matter.
