Feel free to rip it apart. One reason I choose tilted angle 😉
February 26, 2018 at 2:02 AM #509247@d0gg0d Thank you.
This render rocks in so many ways.February 26, 2018 at 3:02 AM #509525Thanks =) I love B+W movies. You cant have 4k movies and not like almost everything
February 26, 2018 at 3:03 AM #509526Ohhh please tell me im the "know-it-all". I need more validation in my life.
February 26, 2018 at 3:05 AM #509528@adam - just remember the core mistake people make when doing 'film noir'. French Noir isn't black and white, it's high contrast. Get some serious light and shadow on your focal points (e.g. the character and the shoe).
February 26, 2018 at 3:50 AM #509568I loaded a 3d car with headlights. other than the tunnel lighting thats all thats on her. I wanted it natural vs using a spot light. I made behinder her as dark as possible while i could still make out the other car in distance.
Shes not full BW. Theres about 2% color.
Fully rendered in Daz as BW. Only Post was removing 6 hot spots. But i agree i could have more contrast. Thats my taste bleeding in.
know it all? Over my head on that one.
Blade Runner seem to be cyber punk noir, aldo ive seen neo noir. Losts of different film noir styles.
I was considering doing sin city but i wanted something that is more me and not a complete rip off.
February 26, 2018 at 4:13 AM #509589I tried 6 different clothe sets, about 5 dif clothe shaders, 20+ angles, 10+ render settings. Almost all resulted in ridiculous amounts of noise and fireflies.
I wanted 0 post but i had to in the end.
So thus helped me learn a bit. Hopefully i can remember
stuff. All hot spot but one were in the hair. The render i like the most had the worst noise and was very dynamic as far as contrast. Just me but to me this is a 3D contest, not a Photoshop contest. Just my opinion and i know why others may disagree.
February 26, 2018 at 4:28 AM #509602The contest will be officially announced in about eight hours. @d0gg0d your entry can stand as the first entry if that’s what you would like.
For all looking to enter, look for a new thread for the announcement. Just two points to ponder at this moment.
This contest will not be Blind.
The total point pot is, as of now, at 57,000 points. The allocation will be announced later, but this pot does not include the participation prize, which I will be providing.
February 26, 2018 at 4:31 AM #509604you can play with the tone mapping in DAZ, that'll help you get a contrasty image without having to 'get it right' entirely in the scene.
usually im into the 'render only' side of things, but I think a bit of curve editing in post is probably ok in this one 😉 The blacks should be BLACK and the whites should be WHITE.

film noir, especially the OG french stuff, isn't very natural... it's very much a style so you don't need to worry too much about having realistic lighting. That's up to you of course, if you want to emulate the style whole hog.
Personally I don't like the noir movies that much (hardboiled detective gets a bit bland after a couple of films) but the film noir visual style is one of my favourites.
If you have a look here (just a google search) you can see in the posters that it's not even the black and white, even the coloured images use high contrast in tone, or in hue and are quite unnatural.
p.s. the know it all comment was from our host, I assume it's aimed at me since I am the one that keeps calling him an art robot for his 'art is google links' attitude.
February 26, 2018 at 4:41 AM #509613lol yeah, art to me is putting part if you on canvas just not a paint by numbers kinda thing.
February 26, 2018 at 4:41 AM #509614@Rob yes please.
March 1, 2018 at 7:19 PM #514270Hi everyone there are so many things to consider in Film Noir Rendering I can't emphasize enough all the elements need to be blended. My suggestion is use of Renderstudio Monochrome Iray if you can and then take it to 2d software and add sosme film grain if you want and Watch Sin CITY for more artistic inspiration and if you're using a full frame don't forget the SPECULAR light for the eyes to twinkle and ... here are some links for making it better if you want a huge cityscape all png format
https://gallery.yopriceville.com/Free-Clipart-Pictures/Silhouettes-PNG/Cityscape_Silhouette_PNG_Clip_Art_Image
but don't forget to BLUR the background otherwise you lose the focus on the character ...
USE CLOUDS very OMINOUS CLOUDS
These are renders by renown artists
film noir jacques vittriano

As you see the black and white isn't always the ONLY way
One more

another painting
