I am constantly going to add material here for anyone ready to explore and comments should be to the point not SPAMS and ..grhdrhrdrhdgrhgrhgrh
Today I am going to present the most important FOCAL ELEMENT in Film Noir which is LIGHTING Next time it will be the Dutch ANGLES so google it up ghghghghghhghghg
Lighting is a key element in an image so here is a short and CONCISE PDF about LIGHTING in Painting Photography and Movies
    ENJOY

You seem to know more about art than anyone i know.

    My suggestion:

The Zodiac contest was pick a sign and do a piece. that was simple and people understood exactly what was needed without reams of info.

Film Noir is pretty specfic imho as to the look of a piece.

I could do an airport or a gas lamp.

Since its your contest you're letting someone else run for you your rules, your idea, Id like your wants in 3 sentences or less.

@Adam it's not MY contest I just want people to have SERIOUS fun while learning about a theme such as Film Noir or Anything for that matter if YOU know Film Noir maybe others Don't know about it especially very young people so why bother just do what you please and that's all

This is a great development regarding serious contest application on this site, and about time too. I would like to offer 3000 points toward the kitty.

Adam, here's a pointer to what Film Noir demands...a style of cinematographic film marked by a mood of pessimism, fatalism, and menace.

Bottom line, nobody is forcing anyone to enter the contest or vote on entries. There's no point in complaining.
If you want to LEARN something and become a better artist, cool. If not, thats cool too. Just move along to something else that interests you.

Welcome @Herecles and @Dragon I am sure everybody here including myself is learning something new (except the Know-It-All ghrghrhghrhgrhghr) Thank you for coming and have a great time...In fact for me the process of a contest is more pleasing than who is going to win as we embark on a journey of exploration rather than "Oh that's for Me I know it" stuff

High-key and use of diagonals and reciprocals. The hard shadows stress drama
The angle is tilted, too. This shot from The Night and the City
helps us line up our character to express fear and danger

Hi everyone I promised to delve into the compositional elements of the scene in Film Noir but not exactly the notorious Dutch Angle today as there's more about LIGHTING in FILM NOIR If you have the PDF part 1, here is part 2 which explores the issue in depth with camera placements and origins in Italian Paintings and German Expressionism...(as shown in PDF part 1)
This PDF here is by a famous online photographer John P. HessFounder
    Here is the link

There are many ways for you to provide the lighting for your scene if you go to daz 3d.com and search for Film Noir including Dreamlight video tutorials

Here is an example of Film Noir artist render by Jim Silke
As an artist or voter artist when you look at the image try to identify
    1-The focal elements
    2-The focal heplers
    3-The structure
    4-The balance
    5-The EMOTION
Each of the five elements will be alloted points from 1 to 5
    1 point ...> Not working
    2 points...> Quite Good
    3 points...> Good
4 points...> Very Good or Excellent
    5 points...> perfect
As said earlier these parts work and mingle together so it is sometimes hard to get one without the others..

Here are some suggestions using the guidelines

a lady standing with a smoking gun in hand

A lady standing with a gun in her hand

a lady standing with a gun in her hand

a lady with a gun in her hand
    moreover there is use of
    1- Contrast
2- Ominous Lighting (gun smoke like thunder and lightning in the sky)
    3- Hard Shadows
    4- Saturation
    5- Correct wardrobe
    6- Smoke and haze
7- Leading lines are the buildings backlight leading to the top of the pyramid where we see the GUN
