Well, the V4 version has been fully funded, but not the G2 version (yet)

For once, I agree with Ethiopia.

3D model celeb clones are never going to be exactly 1:1, which I chalk up to something one of my friends (who works in professional Hollywood VFX land and has done some major films, fwiw) said to me a while back: making a human face in 3D is never going to be perfect, because actual human faces have lots of subtleties that even the most highly trained of artists can't quite replicate. It's probably the main reason why a lot of character morphs often have that sameface Barbie or Ken doll-esque look, too. Because it's easier to do stylized realism than actual realism effectively.

When you deal with celebrities especially, you see their faces quite often. So you'll be able to look at, say, a Forender celebrity model and dismiss it as not being accurate. Even the FBM they made of that one porn star actress (Anna-Marie Goddard, I think? Daz vaulted the figure recently, so I can't pull it up for reference) doesn't look exactly like her and still has the squareishness of the Victoria 3 base.

The only PA/CC that has created almost perfect likenesses to various celebrities was the late, great StudioArtVartanian. But as well crafted as her work was and always will be, they're not quite exact likenesses to Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Craig, Marilyn Monroe, et al.

    @eelgoo

Thanks for reminding me about Adam Thwaites. (Totally forgot about him)

I'm the same with celebs. I wouldn't know most of them if they fell on me.

Sculpting a head from reference images is the only real way to get a likeness as I'm sure many have seen on the interwebs, or paste a celebs face on your render in Photoshop. Both need skills.

The problem with the DAZ dolls is that you can tell it's a DAZ doll whatever morphs are applied IMO.

Adam Thwaites is still plugging away with his own site.

One thing to bear in mind there, is that the cheaper characters do not come with any textures.

In the past I have done a few dial spin attempts at celeb morphs.
As well as the morph limitations, my level of success varied dependent on the quality & clarity of the reference photos I was working with.

@norbertz: This is true. The Genesis 8 line in particular is just... I don't know. I can tell Daz is trying to steer more towards realism in the mainline figures, but the artists who make the morphs either don't have a grasp on it or they're trying too hard. My guess is because they -and other PAs- are using Iray as a crutch for realism. But that is an entirely different kettle of fish.

In any case, I'd only recognize a celebrity if they have very distinct facial features. Like, Mousso's Joanna is clearly based off of Angelina Jolie (albeit 10-15 years ago, circa 'Tomb Raider'), because it has her naturally full lips and defined jaw/cheeks. And SAV's Eirene is clearly inspired by Kirsten Dunst at the time of the 'Spider-Man' movies.

But if you were to show me a model that's supposedly based off of, say, Taylor Swift, Kit Harrington, Henry Cavill, or even Beyonce, I'd probably have a hard time recognizing them in the model unless it was spelled out. Even then, I wouldn't think it was 100% perfect likeness.

The trouble with the Daz morphs/models is that it's only skin deep and people aren't. Most people are recognisable by their expressions and nuances. (Or if they have some kind of caricature face like Nick Nolte.)

It's hard to make Daz models faces pull the way you want them to, cheeks don't really move, eyelids don't really pouch. Most things are illusions on the skin and people don't have that. That being said, there are a lot of talented people out there doing great things alongside people that aren't so talented just adding shit to the pot. So choose your shit carefully.

I'm not sure why this post generated this much discussion, but it's interesting. I will say I like SAV, Mihrelle, Sangriart, and some FoRender. I wish Maelwenn would make more celebrities, since their Jolie character is great. It's a shame it doesn't really transfer with GenX though.

Also, SAS3D's IT29 is great, but unfortunately they couldn't finish the G3F version.

I agree about most celebrity likenesses being kind of shallow. There's some good ones out there from a frontal perspective, but the resemblance can get pretty loose, pretty fast once you start changing the camera angles.

I always end-up dialing faces, or blending them with another character in an attempt to get a better likeness... which I tend to SUCK at, by the way.

On the subject of realism, I'll take a slightly or even moderately stylized face over a photo-realistic one, since we usually don't see celebrities in a very natural way anyhow, and because most of the stuff I do is in a glamour/fantasy setting anyway.

Also, Anna Marie Goddard wasn't a porn star, just an adult model and Playboy's 1995 Playmate of the year, along with being their 40th Anniversary pictorial... my dad had both of those issues, ha ha.

I saw a pack of "celebrity" models on here the other week and when I visited the Rendo links to see the models I had a hard time to guess which celebrity it was, even looking at the list from the post.

I'd rather have a nice looking model than one that "kinda" looks like a real person too.

The only Daz models I've seen that actually look like who they're supposed to be are the Game of Thrones characters.
I did a Lynda Carter one with Face gen and a lot of tweaking after, and it came out pretty decent, even if she looks older. I was surprised. I also did my own Daenyrys. That one was ok but not as good as the ones on the market.

I find it is a matter of patience & determination.
Save often & be prepared to reload, if 'undo' won't cut it.

    🙂
