@ethiopia 3D models have come a long way in the past decade. I can remember a time when no so-called ''serious artist'' would look at a 3D artwork; let alone call it art. Then again, it took them ages to accept mixed media too. Back then I used Poser, as Daz was looked on as being completely inferior. If you mentioned back then that you used Daz you were automatically disregarded; even by 3D artists. But it seems as though though the situation is reversed now; as no one will admit to using Poser anymore Lol

Whatever medium or area of interest, there are always those that try to take higher ground on some pretext or other.

@eelgoo Absolutely true. There's snobbery in every field, unfortunately.

@ethiopia I know, but the same applies to all mediums, insofar as how the elitism works. 🙂

As I've only started modelling, I can really appreciate the amount of work that goes into making and texturing the models. Having said that, I don't think any less of someone who doesn't - or hasn't learnt to - make models.

    @ethiopia sez

The ‘real art’ argument comes up regularly in the blender forums. Some people are adamant that it’s not real art unless you’ve modeled everything in the scene yourself. It’s popular to look down on Poser/Daz users. In the Blender forums I never mention Daz/Studio.

Funny about that, since Blender always gets the business in 3D "discussions" being called "blendlets" by Max and Maya users... you'd think they'd be a bit more sensitive and inclusive, or at least tolerant concerning the caste system of graphics, hmm?

But anyway, I think we can all agree here that Daz rules and Poser is objectively sheet. Science.

Hell, Daz won't even waste a penny on their own codebase maintenance or... God forbid... development.

Tafi already has an albatross, can't see them wanting another.

<edit> So it seems Tafi is already leading the Daz Content cash-cow from the Studio pasture to the Unity barn for a whole new round of milking.

Lets look at a possible example

    Lets say
I picked the character and clicked it.
I picked the pose and clicked it.
I picked the clothing and clicked it.
I picked a Dforce template and messed with it a bit to wind blow the clothing.
I picked a shader and clicked it.

A sculpture creates it from a lump of clay.

Who is more of an artist?

Not saying it doesn't take some talent to create renders. I've seen amazing work on several levels but to be able to create something from nothing is on another level.

What with the hooplah over mega-hyped NFT/NFP and metaverse junk, I don't see a decade-old spare tire taking up much space in the to-do list.
I noticed Unity assets by Daz are about half the price of the same asset for Studio. Daz is also busy hawking items at another virtual universe, Sinespace
    https://sine.space/shop/category/3/0/Clothes/
prices are in virtual currency, but of course that equates to perks bought with real currency. I'm too lazy to figure out the coin equivalence, but it probably works out to a few bucks an item.
Also noticed that the assets for Unity are marked as "by Tafi" and those for Sinespace are "by DAZ 3D" or "DAZ Originals"... many you recognize, and none mention the actual creators. Weird. I wonder if that's part of the marketing stipulation for Daz PAs or if they are blatant sellouts, but w/e.
