I've been checking out the dead posts and reposting any items that I've got. I even spent points checking to make sure the links were dead, but I have found a couple that are still active, and wonder how they ended up in the dead post category.
What really surprises me, though, is the fact that there are so many newer items with dead/deleted links, and I can't help but wonder why someone would upload a newer item, only to delete the link shortly after. Older posts with missing links I can understand, as those posters might not be active on the site anymore and likely deleted the links to free up storage space, but I don't really get why someone would delete the link to a product that they only uploaded a couple of months ago.
I'm going through my library to see how many unavailable products I have, because there's few things more annoying than finding an item you need, only to spend points to discover the link is dead. 🙂
March 24, 2022 at 12:32 AM #1787523Sometimes I can find active links on other sites and I have three or four that I've found to repost.
March 24, 2022 at 12:51 AM #1787529@dimer There's so many products that I downloaded from here in the past couple of months - items that were fairly popular too; I even think a few were requested, that have dead links. It's only a couple of months since I downloaded a hair product from a popular vendor, and when i went to check the dead posts, there it was. I just wonder why people delete the links to new items.
I think most of the other sites leech the stuff from here, but I really hate having to go there to download something with a dead link that I didn't grab immediately after it was uploaded here, as most of those sites make the whole downloading experience really frustrating.
March 24, 2022 at 1:25 AM #1787534those kinda links were usually disputed or copyright claimed. happens with the renderhub/forender stuff a lot
March 24, 2022 at 1:51 AM #1787536@wondertweek I see that loads of stuff from those sites are gone, but I'm not surprised because they have form for that.
I wouldn't upload anything from those sites - and if someone does upload an item from there, I make sure to grab it before it's been copyright claimed. I only upload items I buy from the main sites, because the bigger and more profitable the company, the less likely they are to care. If I do buy something from those other places, I share it privately.
The items that I was surprised to see had deleted links were from the main sites.
March 24, 2022 at 2:05 AM #1787537Though the smaller brokerage sites might be troublesome to keep at bay, don't discount the propensity for certain other PAs to lurk here and go bananas on the file hosts. Especially Feenix19sixtysix. For a while you couldn't get a single item up for more than a few hours. I posted Dan for M8 twice in a row and it got pulled from my Mega within hours (someone else posted it and it's still up now 2 years later AFAIK). So now I leave that one alone, and any I suspect of being touchy, I up them to a burner alt. I'd like to eventually mirror everything, but 1) that's about 40GB in 130 or so uploads, and 2) it would require editing the posts, or reposting them anew. Neither point is cozy. Maybe a little at a time...
I too am guilty of holding off on some Rednerhuub stuff, but I've seen lots of it here that *does* stick to the wall.
<edit>
Looking at the latest spate of takedowns, I see they're mostly from that one PA who's making their $ on selling likenesses of copyright characters.
I'll bet you a steak dinner that he doesn't have authorization to sell Harry Potter, Terminator, Spiderman, etc etc.
I wonder how those movie moguls would take that? They're ready to delete you and me for sneak-watching one of their crappy movies, I'm betting their lawyers would love to dine on the leftovers of the royalty settlement they could realistically get out of 'em...
*evil chuckle*March 24, 2022 at 2:42 AM #1787540@amberkat Some PAs are definitely touchy, and you can be sure that a lot of copyright white knighting goes on too; where certain people from particular forums like to suck up to their favourite PA's and scour the share sites just to report back and earn brownie points and a metaphorical pat on the head.
The same thing goes on in the art community in general. I lost count of the amount of times that some white knight would PM me to tell me that my art had been stolen and uploaded to desktopnexus or similar sites. My response was always the same - ''so what?, as long as they link back to the art and credit me, they're free to share it all they want, as it gives my stuff more exposure.'' As long as no one claimed my work as their own, I was cool with it.
I remember, some years back, being notified on dA by a bunch of busybodies that someone had ''stolen'' my art and was using it as their deviant ID. Turned out, that the '' art thief'' was a fourteen year old boy whom had recently joined dA and had no clue about copyright law. He'd found the pic on Google, thought it looked cool and used it as his ID. When I went to his page, I was shocked and disgusted to see how a bunch of grown adults dogpiled onto this child for ''stealing art''. I told them to back the eff off and leave the kid alone, then told the boy to state that he was using it with my permission and that should keep them off his back.
I've never uploaded any R3nd3rhub stuff, but I did have one of my uploads disappear. So, I waited a week and reuploaded to a different host and it's still there. lol
March 24, 2022 at 3:24 AM #1787546Yeah, there are only two sites I go to and mostly because I'm either low on points or Mega is cutting me off.
March 24, 2022 at 3:37 AM #1787550@dimer There's one particular site that I was going to join before I found this one. It looked great and had all the new releases, but once I read through the Terms and Conditions, I said to myself ''no effing way'' because they actually made you fill a form making the case why you should be allowed join the site. The rest of the Ts&Cs were equally as invasive and crazy.
March 24, 2022 at 5:26 AM #1787556made you fill a form making the case why you should be allowed join the site
Oh, *that* place. The Chinese guy. It's a scam site anyway.
Guess what, you can't get in anymore anyway, but they still take applications with an email addy. Then they sell your email to list harvesters...March 24, 2022 at 8:49 AM #1787590@amberkat I'm sure we're referring to the same place lol
I remember seeing that site for the first time and going through its latest posts and thinking to myself that it was a little suspicious that they seemed to have every single new item on the market so soon after release. I'm of the opinion now that they don't have the hot off the shelves items; that they post the pictures of the stuff to entice you to join.
Another one of their conditions was that in order to remain a member - provided you were accepted, of course - you had to agree to buy new items and upload them regularly or risk being kicked off the site; the more you uploaded, the more you were allowed to download and if you uploaded very little, you basically had no business being there. I remember thinking, ''eff this BS'' as it defeated the entire purpose of what a share site should be: if people have the kind of money where they can afford to buy multiple new items - regardless of the cost - then they're not likely going to need to join a share site to begin with. There was a time when I was making enough from art commissions and also had a full time day job, that I always bought everything I used in my art. from memberships of stock photo sites to regularly purchasing from Daz, Rendo and the smaller stores. But the thing about art, is that it's so easy lose inspiration and get the artist's equivalent of writers block due to things that are going on in your personal life, so I took a break for a few years. Then, when the pandemic hit I was made redundant, so it's not that easy for me buy products regularly - I buy them when circumstances allow - yet I share what I do have in my library, even the older stuff.
March 24, 2022 at 9:13 AM #1787608@wondertweek It's kind of ironic that forender does that since 99% of the assets there are stealing from copyrighted works.
March 25, 2022 at 1:48 AM #1787937She's been at it a long time too - she grabbed everything I put on KickassTorrents (RIP) too.

Whenever you get the 'over DL limit' from Mega, just make sure you have a VPN ready [I use Nord]
Clear the Mega message [do not close Mega].
Go to your VPN and select a new location.
Back in Mega, just do a 'reload page' - resume downloading... 🙂Sometimes you will find Mega wants to close, and when you restart the active download has closed, so need to start again.
Usually not a problem though.
I use this frequently when someone has provided a 2-3 GB single file instead of a folder with individuals to choose, and it works a charm.March 25, 2022 at 7:45 PM #1788353Anonymous

I hear you... a lot of the stuff I've posted is listed as "Dead Link", but they work perfectly fine.
My guess is, about 15% of users here have a problem with THEIR settings, how their computers interacts with the net & Google Drive
Here is a great example that is in the dead zone School Girl Costume for G8F it was a legit dead link that had been dead for over a year, so I reposted it on Dec 31.
https://zonegfx.com/repost-school-girl-costume-set-for-genesis-8-females/I'll save you the hassle, but this is the link it references
https://drive.google.com/u/0/uc?id=1ar1jns8-7_pvWp0RncaQqgskFPCa-L6f&export=downloadIt must have received 20-30 downloads, and then somebody had trouble with it (my guess on their end) so they mashed the "broken link" button. My guess is, the mods didn't actually try it, they just binned as a dead link.
I am past caring too much about points... But it is obvious that there is a glitch in the system. When I pointed it out, the mods will cry "we don't have enough people to help".
OK... well, I'll help you out then. I offered to help go through dead links to sort them out. To take pressure off the Mods. If a link is dead, but somebody has reposted it, I'd think it would be good to remove the actually dead posts, to clean up the system.
Nothing but crickets in reply...
Using my example above...
There are three School Girl Costumes in the blogTwo Active, one dead. Mine's "Dead" but working.
I posted mine Dec 31st... it got "reported" as Dead, and two other people reposed (using my graphics) within 4 days. I was told I couldn't repost because it was already up...geshhh...
