I was wondering how many members have opted to update to this.
For those who have, did the update go smoothly? Are you satisfied with it? Do you regret it? Is it buggy? Did you lose any settings?
I am sort of feeling the water before taking the plunge.
November 4, 2023 at 1:41 AM #2039910There's already a discussion here @Belarobert.
If I was Haseltine I'd merge the threads 😂😂😂😂😂.November 4, 2023 at 8:21 AM #2039934I am following the official forums and the feeling I am getting is not good. To be honest, I do not find those forums very reliable. In a few threads that I am monitoring, posts made in the morning seem to have disappeared by the evening. Also, people tend to go to the forums if something went wrong, so the capacity to gauge things going well is limited. That is the reason why I asked if anyone tried it and if it went smoothly.
@frank22 I made a new thread since that discussion was dealing with past versions of DS being made available, iirc, even though the topic came up.Well, so far, I am leaning towards the idea that going for 4.22 is a bad idea, but if anyone did install it and things went without a hitch, I'd love to know!
November 4, 2023 at 9:42 AM #2039947Now Haseltine has resorted to defending the ads...
https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/656756/why-isn-t-anybody-talking-about-daz-4-22November 4, 2023 at 10:53 AM #2039958I made the newbie mistake of updating thinking it was a patch for know bugs. Which is what sub-versions (the .nn part of the release) was designed to indicate. Wrong! The update itself went smooth but now I get ads which require additional point-clicks to dismiss and the log is full of errors referencing a programmer's D-drive. It seems they left a debug script on in the 'production' distribution. Oh and the touted "fast asset loading" improvement does not do much as far as I can see.
Verdict: next time I'll know to wait.
November 4, 2023 at 11:29 AM #2039969I have installed DS4.22 and it actually runs fine (and fast), but I am surprised that Daz has chosen to remove the option (Simulation Settings) to increase e.g. Gravity to be only changeable to 03.00, as the absolute max. (I wonder how many other places this applies to).
Previously, you could change it to 10 and higher, but that option has been removed. :/November 4, 2023 at 11:56 AM #2039981Can't you manually edit the parameter to change it back to 10?
November 4, 2023 at 12:01 PM #2039983Something I have noticed. Well two things actually:-
There is a Genesis 3 hair type that crashes the scene (found a way around by change the model's hair). But I did a render with just the model and nothing else - it worked. This was annoying me yesterday.
More importantly (well for me anyways), when I save a pose, a scene or something else - the thumbnail doesn't appear as it should. It remains with what ever was the first thumbnail.
November 4, 2023 at 12:10 PM #2039984@OnkelShield Nope - it can't be changed, that option is immediately not available anymore 🙁
November 4, 2023 at 12:19 PM #2039985@Felicia @Onkelshield That is a problem that I saw people complaining about in the forums and someone posted a workaround which, sadly, has disappeared from the forums. Essentially it involved modifying the workspace layout in order to place the parameter settings button back there so that you can work beyond the limits. There was a step by step guide from Mr. H. which seems to have been removed.
@Joelj This is another ubiquitous problem. Apparently some OOT hairs will cause iray (viewport and actual render) to crash. The widely touted fix is to remove the map from the 'Transmitted Color' in the Surfaces tab.Note that I have not actually installed 4.22 and therefore cannot attest to these 'fixes'. I am just regurgitating what is being said on the forums.
November 4, 2023 at 12:24 PM #2039986@Felicia @Onkelshield I found the link. It was not actually removed.
November 4, 2023 at 12:24 PM #2039987^ I read about that. Doesn't bother me that much as I use many OOT hairs and no problems.
Solved my problem (I think) - so I can head to bed soon. Well once I finish this season off. Saving a scene worked. Yet to test preset poses (as I use them a lot)
November 4, 2023 at 12:38 PM #2039989Just a small interjection on the OOT Hairs render crash issue.
I have found that the error is generated by the OOT shader.
If you put a third party shader on the hair, it renders fine.
🙂

@Belarobert thanks for the hint, but it didn't solve the problem. You still cannot enter values higher than 3. (Gear icon is still ghosted) I will have to continue searching 🙂November 4, 2023 at 2:48 PM #2040022 -
